This article contains lore taken from Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, the manuals, and/or official bonus maps.

The Boughs of Azshara were a twin pair of great aspen trees that once stood near the ancient night elven city of Suramar, the ruins of which are now located upon the Broken Isles in the Great Sea. According to Maiev Shadowsong, to look upon them was to know true peace and true fulfillment. However, by the time directly following the Third War, all that remained of the trees were two small stumps. Upon seeing the stumps, Maiev commented that the trees were gone "along with the hopes and dreams of a generation".[1]

In the RPG[]

A great garden stood at Suramar's center, and at the center of this garden stood the fabled Boughs of Azshara.[2]

Trivia[]

The Boughs were likely inspired by the Two Trees of Valinor, a pair of twin gold and silver trees from Tolkien's legendarium.
