Loot

Drahga Shadowburner is the third boss of the Grim Batol 5-player dungeon in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. He's a member of the Twilight's Hammer.

Background

Adventure Guide

This Twilight's Hammer courier is on a mission from the Bastion of Twilight. Should heroes overcome his fiery minions, Drahga will reveal a portent of doom for Azeroth's defenders.

Abilities

Drahga Shadowburner

Drahga Shadowburner fights the players alone until he reaches 30% remaining health. He will then call on Valiona to join the fight. Drahga then continues to fight the players from on top of Valiona's back.

  • Ability warlock chaosbolt.png  Burning Shadowbolt — Drahga Shadowburner blasts a random player with burning shadows, inflicting 5850 to 6150 Shadowflame damage.
  • Spell fire elemental totem.png  Invocation of Flame Deadly — Drahga Shadowburner begins to open a portal at a random location around him. After 5 seconds, the portal completely opens and inflicts 4387 to 4611 Fire damage to all enemies within 4 yards. An Invoked Flaming Spirit also appears at the portal. The Invoked Flaming Spirit runs towards a random player, and if the spirit reaches the player it will cast Supernova.
    • Invoked Flaming Spirit Deadly — This low health creature runs towards a random player, ignoring all attempts to forcibly change its target. If the spirit reaches the targeted player, it will cast Supernova.
    • Spell fire elemental totem.png  Supernova Deadly — The Invoked Flaming Spirit explodes in a violent supernova, immediately inflicting 29250 to 30750 Fire damage and inflicting an additional 2437 to 2562 Fire damage every 1 second to all players within 10 yards for 8 sec.
Valiona

Valiona joins the fight when Drahga Shadowburner reaches 30% remaining health. She will fight with Drahga until she reaches 20% remaining health, when she ejects Drahga and leaves him to face the players alone.

  • Inv misc dragonkite 02.png  Valiona's Flame — Valiona turns and breathes out a 40 yard long and 40 degree wide cone of twilight in the direction of a random player, inflicting 14625 to 15375 Shadow damage and stunning all players within the cone for 2 sec.
  • Ability druid infectedwound.png  Shredding Swipe — Valiona swipes at her current target, inflicting 100% of her normal melee damage and tearing open a rift to the Twilight Realm. The rift creates a pool of Seeping Twilight.
  • Spell shadow twilight.png  Seeping Twilight — The rift torn open by Valiona creates a 10 yard radius pool of Seeping Twilight centered at the location of her target for 20 sec. The pool then inflicts 4875 to 5125 Shadow damage every 1 second to every player standing within it.
  • Spell fire twilightflamebreath.png  Devouring Flames Heroic Difficulty — Valiona chooses a random player then channels a massive barrage of flame in their direction over 5 sec. The flames engulf a massive 150 degree cone in front of Valiona, inflicting up to 40000 Shadow damage every second to any player within the flames. Valiona inflicts less damage to players within the cone of flames the farther away they are positioned from her.

Strategy

When Drahga yells INCINERATE THEM, MINIONS! or BY FIRE BE... BURNED!, a patch of fire appear on the ground. After a few seconds, an elemental will spawn at the patch and fixate on a random party member. If the elemental reaches the chosen party member, it will likely kill them. It is imperative that everyone moves away from the fire patch, DPS focuses on the elemental after it spawns (applying stuns and snares if possible), and the targeted person keeps away from the elemental until it is killed.

Eventually, Drahga will mount Valiona. During this phase everyone needs to stay out of Shredding Swipe (a ground-based AoE zone), and, on heroic difficulty, out of Valiona's frontal cone Devouring Flames. Note that Devouring Flames is cast in a random direction, so everyone needs to move out of its way. Drahga will continue casting fireballs at random party members and summoning elemental adds during this phase.

Trivia

  • Drahga's quote "BY FIRE BE...BURNED!" is a play on Ragnaros' famous quote BY FIRE BE PURGED! Likewise, the quote "You should have come better prepared!" is a play on Illidan's catchphrase.
  • Strangely both Drahga's voice and name sound more female than male. This might mean that he was meant to be a female but was changed into a male in the last development phase, and both voice and name remained, possibly due to an oversight. What is certainly an oversight is that Drahga and Valiona have the exact same voice.
  • Drahga is voiced by David Lodge.

Patches and hotfixes

  • Hotfix (2015-11-23): "[Hotfix in testing] Valiona's Devouring Flames should no longer be dealing significantly more damage than intended."
  • Cataclysm Patch 4.0.3a (2010-11-23): Added.
