Pools of Aggonar - Arazzius' throne

Arazzius the Cruel's base.

The Pools of Aggonar, located in the northern part of Hellfire Peninsula, is the home of Arazzius the Cruel. An eredar warlock and loyal servant of Kil'jaeden — an officer of the Burning Legion — Arazzius resides at his throne on the top of the mountain, protected by many demons. The pools were once sacred springs for the draenei, but were corrupted by the blood of the dying pit lord, Aggonar.[1] The cause of his death is unknown, but his demonic aura quickly corrupted the once holy site and now only his bones remain as a testament to his fate.

At the time of the Invasion of Outland, Nazgrel and Danath Trollbane discovered that Arazzius the Cruel was a lieutenant of Lord Kazzak, and the Legion's overlord over the Hellfire Peninsula. In order to free the region from his influence, and reclaim it for the interests of Thrallmar and Sons of Lothar, they respectively sent the heroes to destroy him.[2][3]

At some point, a Draenei Anchorite tried to cleanse the pools at the Altar of Aggonar with the help of two Draenei Vindicators. After a draenei paladin was captured and interrogated, Ryathen the Somber sent an Horde adventurer to stop the ritual, as he didn't want to lose his supply of felblood.[4]

As one of the Omenai's missions is to restore their sacred places across Outland, Amaan the Wise later sent the Alliance adventurers there to kill the demons.[5] As it was the blood of Aggonar that fouled the very essence of these holy waters, he ordered the heroes to cleanse the pools with a cleansing vial and also to kill Aggonis, the manifestation of the pit lord's remaining essence. After their success, Amaan announced that they could finally begin their work to restore the pools to their former purity.[6]
