Shath'yar is the language of the Old Gods[1] and presumably also their n'raqi minions. The exact origin of the language is still unknown.

Notes

  • Much like the language by which it is inspired, the grammar of shath'yar appears to be quite different from English, especially when it comes to articles (more specifically, the lack thereof) and auxiliary verbs, so a word-for-word translation would result in what appears to be broken English, e.g. "They not die; they not live. They outside cycle."

Trivia

  • The language bears a striking resemblance to, and is no doubt inspired by, the language that the Cult of Cthulhu chants in the works of H.P. Lovecraft.
  • For several years before the official name of the language was revealed, the fan community called it "faceless" after the faceless ones who spoke it.
