Steel is the cloud serpent pet and companion of Koak.[1]
History[]
After a Horde zeppelin crash killed its mother, Steel came into the reluctant care of the orc Koak. After waiting days for a Horde rescue party, and becoming convinced that it was not arriving, Koak decided to bring the young hatchling to the Order of the Cloud Serpent after seeing two of their riders in the sky. Koak was convinced to stay and train the young cloud serpent, though Koak's own motivation was to train the hatchling in order to prove himself worthy of being Dragonmaw.
Steel was known to create mischief and was known to enjoy Kao's company. Unbeknownst to the serpent, Koak was struggling between using the Order's methods and what he knew second-hand of the Dragonmaw teaching methods which would soon come to a head. With the Horde descending into civil war Koak tried to force Steel to obey; an action which deeply hurt Steel before it fled from Koak.
Having realized Steel would wander back to the spot it had hatched, the orc, feeling immense guilt for his actions, sought out the cloud serpent he had been taking care of for months in order to apologize. Due to pouring out his heart, Steel regained trust in Koak and allowed him to ride it after Koak used a method shown to him by Elder Anli, near the beginning of their stay with the Order. With this act, Koak officially bestowed the name Steel on the serpent and directed him to journey to the Shrine of Two Moons, in order to aid his people by joining the Darkspear rebellion against Garrosh Hellscream's True Horde and Warlord Zaela's Dragonmaw.[1]
