Old discussion[]

There should be more info on this page about the Protectorate, and specifically what Commander Ameer has to say about who the ethereal are. A good link of what he says on blizzplanet: http://blizzplanet.com/content/641/

'ethereal without wrappings'[]

The image of the 'Ethereal without wrappings' looks like a Mana-Wraith or Mageslayer, and I've never heard that they have anything to do with the Ethereals.--Scrotch 22:16, 11 April 2007 (EDT)

Honestly I think we can blame this on Blizzard's lack of interest in building new models. I do not believe the Ethereals are at all related to some of the similar-modeled creatures we're used to seeing such as Mana Wraiths and Shades. They are all made of energy, yes, but we know that energy-beings seem to come in all shapes and sizes (such as Naaru and Voidwalkers). Lilyth 01:29, 20 April 2007 (EDT)

The name of that particular model is literllay "unbound Ethereal" So its the current model we have for an unbound etheral. It certainly is blizzard's lazyness, but the point in the article is sound none the less. Rampage29

Faction[]

Arent some ethereals members of burning legion in RPG? Noobi666 (talk) 18:24, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

No. Just random travelers in the Twisting Nether, maruaders and filchers.Baggins (talk) 18:28, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Others[]

I saw some more of these "Ethereal without wrappings" at Bash'ir Landing and they were called Bash'ir Subprimals (elite) and Unbound Ethereals. I am not sure if Bash'ir is connected to the Ethereum. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 12:06, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Your point being? --g0urra[T҂C] 13:30, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
That the Ethereum are not the only ethereals trying to create hybrids of ethereal and void. I think Bash'ir is connected to the Ethereum, and if so then it would be moot. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 13:33, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
That would be speculation. We're trying to keep speculation out of articles. Furthermore if they are "Ethereal without wrapping" doesn't mean that it has any connection to the Ethereum. --g0urra[T҂C] 14:21, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Tell me about it. I am trying to keep speculation out of articles too that I keep finding. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 01:45, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Filchers & Marauders[]

"Shadows & Light mentions Ethereal filchers and marauders as denizens of the Twisting nether, though it is not known if these are the same "ethereals" as the race introduced in the game."

Come on, if you just look in the Monster Manual or at the d20 SRD, you'll find out that they have nothing to do with the Burning Crusade ethereals. INV Misc Orb 04Xavius, the Satyr Lord 13:12, December 9, 2009 (UTC)

Yeah I already rewrote that section to emphasize that these are most likely not related. "Ethereal" probably is an attribute, not the race. Wanted to rewrite it to "S&L mentions them, though they are probably not related" after the above post of yours, but you know, the servers went up again after 3.3...
Though, could you tell me the page in MoM that mentions them? As long as it doesn't right out contradict the connection, by e.g. indicating it's an attribute, Blizzard could always 'retcon' them to be of the Ethereal race - not that they'd need to do that for a one-time mention in the RPG, but who knows? Tongueout ~ Nathanyel (talk) 08:31, December 10, 2009 (UTC)
Marauders and filchers are cribbed from D&D. The "ethereal" part is because they dwelt on the Ethereal Plane. Marauders are like little blue dogs with fang-filled mouths, and filchers are... just weird. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 08:38, December 10, 2009 (UTC)
Here is the d20SRD article for the Filcher, and here is the one for the Marauder. Look at the images and see for yourself. INV Misc Orb 04Xavius, the Satyr Lord 14:27, December 10, 2009 (UTC)
Ah ok, so "Filcher" and "Marauder" are races/creature types, while "Ethereal" is definitely an attribute here. ~ Nathanyel (talk) 15:18, December 10, 2009 (UTC)

Never Sleeping Confirmed?[]

During the "Fangs of the Father" quest you get the ring appraised by an Ethereal who 10k gold, you can reject it and say "Ten thousand! Outrageous! I'll kill you while you sleep!" To which the Ethereal replies "Well then. It is good that I no longer sleep."

Could this be the proof we need to say with certainty that Ethereal in fact do NOT sleep and HAVEN'T slept since they were flesh and blood?

Quest page here: [1] - --Valthoran (talk) 22:52, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

It seems like the quest is saying that. Though I don't know if it means that they can't or just don't.--SWM2448 01:22, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
I'm not sure it even means much - it's said by a powerful magic-tech user, who could've surpassed the need for sleep with his powers, and then there's of course the simple answer he might just be lying. ~ Nathanyel (talk) 12:38, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Sleep[]

It is from N Rogue [35] A Hidden Message where u go to the ethereal and he asks u for 10k. There is a diagogue option "Ten thousand! Outrageous! I'll kill you while you sleep!" The ethereal responds: "Well then. It is good that I no longer sleep." --Mordecay (talk) 16:48, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

Should probably be added to the Notes section on the quest page, then. -- IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 17:40, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
Done. --Aquamonkeyeg (talk) 17:49, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

Void ethereals[]

While questing in Antorus with Alleria and Locus-Walker, they have a buff called Void Rift and its description is: "Less visible to Void Ethereals and their minions." So the ethereals with the fancy new model are likely it. Worth a page or a mention on the Shadowguard page? --Mordecay (talk) 00:42, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

Sure, I'd say. There already is a "They are of a certain subset of the race that have tragically succumbed to the call of the Void." part, but adding the term might be good aswell. PeterWind (talk) 07:54, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
