War Games are player-initiated, unrated arena and battleground matches. Using the War Games feature, groups of players can challenge one another to player versus player combat that affects neither ratings nor currency but is intended solely for fun, practice, or recruitment. Unlike other non-rated battleground matches, War Games can be fought against players of the same faction and do not require equal teams in order to commence.

With patch 8.0.1, War Games can no longer be initiated through the PvP interface but the in-game commands /wargame or /wg still work.[1]

Starting a War Game[]

War Games, with patch 8.0.1, can no longer be initiated through the PvP interface but the in-game commands /wargame or /wg still work.[1]

Starting a War Game can only be done by a party leader.

When a War Game challenge is issued, the recipient has a little over a minute to accept. Once he or she does so, each group will be placed in a queue and will receive a pop-up window prompting them to enter the skirmish once it's ready. You will generally be through this queue in less than 30 seconds.

War Games can be issued to BattleTag and RealID friends when using the in-game command.

Command syntax[]

The following pseudo-command illustrates the proper syntax for initiating a War Game:

/wg groupleadername [arena] [tournamentrules]

Groupleadername accepts BattleTag and RealID friends.

Both arena and tournamentrules are optional. If arena is left blank, a random Arena or Battleground will be chosen automatically based on the initiating team's size. Otherwise, the map which most closely resembles what is typed will be selected. This means that you can type only part of the Arena or Battleground name, and the system will select the closest match. If you want to be safe, you can use the entire name of the chosen map to launch a War Game.

If tournamentrules hasn't been set, it will default to false.

Limitations[]

War Game skirmish matches are intended solely for fun, training, and recruitment purposes: They provide no experience, Achievement legionpvptier4 [Honor], achievement progression, or win/loss tracking for participants. Individual healing and damage done will be tracked and displayed at the end of each match, just as they are for standard Arena and Battleground games. Uneven team sizes are permitted for Battleground War Games, but Arena War Games can only be initiated between two parties of equal size. You may only issue War Game challenges to characters on your realm.

The maximum size for any War Game is limited only by the capacity of the chosen venue.
