The Council of the Black Harvest is a council made up of six of the greatest warlock that sought the powers of their defeated foes. These powers would then be shared with each other and their own sects[1] to further aid their kind against any future threats to Azeroth. The order was brought together by the human warlock Kanrethad Ebonlocke, after the fall of Deathwing.[2]
History
Nearly each member had witnessed one of the great threats to Azeroth:
- Kanrethad was there when Illidan was destroyed, he shared the secrets of his transformation.
- Ritssyn Flamescowl was in the Firelands when Ragnaros was vanquished.
- Shinfel Blightsworn aided in the death of Cho'gall
- Zinnin Smythe had witnessed Deathwing being unmade
They were brought together by Kanrethad, with each member leery of one another and their motives. They were warlocks who felt underpowered compared to other groups, such as mages, who were beginning to learn temporal magics following the fall of Deathwing. After much bickering and debates it was decided that each warlock would be partnered with another and obtain new powers, to be shared with the Council and then their own sects. Although not every warlock in the council liked each other, they knew what they would be doing would greatly benefit them all. To make sure greed did not set in with individual members, it was agreed that any warlock that broke the contract, failed to return, or returned alone would be struck down by the others and their soul would be banished forever.
All six returned to pass their knowledge on to all warlocks, and disappeared shortly after.[3]
Tasks
- Ritssyn and Zinnin were sent to Sulfuron Keep.
- Shinfel and Zelifrax hunted down the remaining members of the Twilight's Hammer and persuaded them to reveal anything they learned.
- Jubeka Shadowbreaker and Kanrethad Ebonlocke returned to Outland,[2] where they tried to create a powerful crystal from a Naaru relic. This culminated in a battle in the Black Temple.
Legion
After the Battle on the Broken Shore, they sought out a powerful warlock to take their place as the sixth member of the Council, replacing Kanrethad. They attempt to open a portal from the sewers of Dalaran into the deepest part of the Twisting Nether so that they can try to make a staging ground against the Burning Legion. However, the portal opens on a Legion world and a pit lord named Jagganoth takes the five remaining members captive, with Zelifrax being killed due to his insolence for trying to command the pit lord. They escape captivity but all but one end up severely injured by the pit lord, with the newest member escaping the world with the help of a small demon named Calydus who wishes to be free from the pit lord's cruel rule. They travel back to Dalaran, leaving the other four remaining members behind. All but Ritssyn were sent to Mephistroth as a gift for his amusement, with Ritssyn apparently having died from his wounds.
The sole free member hunts down one of three artifacts, and kills Jagganoth, taking command of his demonic armies, who are thankful for being freed from the cruel tyrant. The newly crowned Overlord of the Dreadscar is able to resurrect Ritssyn, who tells the warlock they must hunt down, free the others, and reform the Council of the Black Harvest.
It is unknown what has become of Kanrethad. Though presumably still banished, without Jubeka to keep watch of him it is unknown if his banishment will continue, whether he will become free, or if someone will take over the job of his eternal banishment.

- The Council of the Black Harvest are involved with the warlock quest chain. The Warlock Adventurer is tasked by trainers in capital cities to hunt down Jubeka's [Soulstone] and find them in Outland, being rewarded with green fire.
Not implemented
- All of them had a quote in the warlock talents in Mists of Pandaria beta.
- The group was known in the beta as the Council of Six Daggers.
- Wrathion would later become concerned in their interest for his father's power. Because the quest was only available in PTR and did not make it on live servers, Wrathion's involvement with the council is non-canon.
