Renowned for its tranquil farmlands and bustling breweries, the Valley of the Four Winds is a land rich with fertile soil and pristine waters. Although this thriving heartland's residents are plagued by virmen and other pests, they face an even greater threat from the savage mantid of the nearby Dread Wastes.[1]

Valley of the Four Winds is a tranquil plain of lush farmland, bordered by dense mysterious jungles along the south and impassible mountains to the north. The valley is considered the "breadbasket" of Pandaria, but the year’s harvest is in jeopardy and a terrible malaise has overcome the pandaren that live along the coast. The valley is also the home of the legendary Stormstout Brewery, where Chen Stormstout and his niece Li Li hope to journey to discover the whereabouts of their long-lost ancestors.[2]

The pandaren grow extremely large vegetables here because there are waters that have been flowing down from Vale of Eternal Blossoms for millenia.[3]

History

In the golden and green fields of the Valley of the Four Winds, Pandaria sees to the hunger and thirst of its people. Sizeable corn and lotus crops are watered by ingenious agricultural advances and cared for by the Tillers, Pandaren farmers who feed a growing empire. Farms, ranches and marketplaces dot a land of rolling plains and vine-covered boughs.

It is here that Brewmaster Chen Stormstout arrives after a life spent traveling, first on the Wandering Isle and then throughout Kalimdor. Alongside Alliance and Horde explorers, he'll discover the ancestral home of the Stormstout for the first time, and strive to live up to his family's name and legacy of peerless brewing. But not all is idyllic within the Valley. The ravenous appetites of long-toothed virmen and simian hozen endanger crops and farmers alike... and threaten the entire continent with starvation. If you can stop these animalistic pillagers, you’ll be able to grab a plow and a shovel and cultivate Pandaria's fallow farmlands once again. Meanwhile, as farmers worry over their harvests and the hunger in their bellies, the great wall built to keep the violent mantid race out of the Valley begins to show its first cracks...[4]

Getting there

The valley is accessed via a bridge from Forest Heart in the western side of central Jade Forest. From there, adventurers can travel south down Zhu's Descent to reach Krasarang Wilds, or cross the Thunderfoot Fields to reach the Grassy Cline and the start of the Veiled Stair to Kun-Lai Summit.

Geography

The majority of the Valley of the Four Winds consists of gently rolling hills along varying levels of elevation. There are numerous pools and marshes, as well as waterfalls that both spill into the Valley and cascade from the Valley into the Krasarang Wilds to the south. The heart of the Valley is where most of the pandaren farms and settlements are located.

The northern border consist of sheer cliffs, separating the valley from the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. A steep path cut through the mountain leads through the Veiled Stair to Kun-Lai Summit. The western border of the valley is sealed by the Great Wall, which has kept the mantid at bay for time immemorial.

The Yan-Zhe River cuts along the southern border, and a thin strip of land beyond consist of the Cliffs of Despair. Access to the Krasarang Wilds beyond can only be done at either end of the cliffs via steep slopes that roll their way downward.

There is only one forest within the valley, and that is in the northwest. Thick with bamboo, it is shrouded in dense fog.

Tillers

Halfhill is the farmer's market here, which is the social hub of the Valley of the Four Winds. Every day farmers will come to the market with different problems, providing daily quests with the Tillers:

  • You will help Farmer Yoon fix up his overgrown farm, which will show your progression with the faction.
  • You can clear plots of land and plant things like cooking ingredients, herbalism nodes, gifts for the different NPCs to build your reputation. You then come back the next day to harvest what has grown.

You will be able to decorate the farm as you gain reputation. For example, you can add some pigs and slop, some other animals, and grow an apple orchard.[3]

Stormstout Brewery

The Stormstout Brewery dungeon is in the world at full size, meaning it can be used for questing as well. Things are not going well inside, so you have to clean house with Chen Stormstout.[3]
