Call Pet is used to summon a hunters pet that has been dismissed or has run out of range and automatically disappeared. Since a hunter is able to have up to 5 active pets, there are actually five different abilities (Call Pet 1 to Call Pet 5), one for each active pet.
If the pet auto despawns because of range, casting Call Pet will bring back the pet with Full Health.
Once a hunter learned the ability Call Pet 2 he gains the option to group his Call Pet abilities into one button. This button expands if clicked on it offering to chose between all active pets.
If a pet is available in the slot, the name on the tooltip of the ability that summons that pet says "Call <pet name>" (which cannot be used in macros - bummer) and the icon changes to that of the pet.
Hunters start with Call Pet 1. Call Pet 2, 3, 4 and 5 are trainable at levels 18, 42, 62 and 82 respectively.
Tips and tactics
Call Pet is very useful in situations where you have had to run away from a mob and your pet is almost dead. Send the pet after something a fair distance away, run in the opposite direction and when out of range the pet will despawn, when you cast Call Pet, the pet will reappear with full health.
- Call Pet is a rare Hunter spell in the Goblins vs Gnomes expansion of Hearthstone. The flavor text reads: "Real hunters tame hungry crabs."
- Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): The ability has been split up into 5 different abilities, one for each active pet, it is available from the start, and the quest Taming the Beast is no longer available.
