Chains of Ice is a death knight talent that slows the target. It is automatically learned for Frost death knights.
Trivia
This spell originally belonged to mages somewhere in the game development, and it worked exactly like priest shackle undead, but it was scrapped at some point.
Patch changes
- Patch 10.0.0 (2022-10-25): Now a row 1 class talent (was a level 13 ability).
- Patch 9.1.0 (2021-06-29): Chains of Ice now has a spell highlight on the action bar when the Death Knight has 20 stacks of [Cold Heart].
- Hotfix (2021-03-25): Chains of Ice will once again be removed from the target when spells like [Blessing of Freedom] are used.
- Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13): Now learned at level 13 (was 56). All death knights can now use Chains of Ice.
- Patch 8.0.1 (2018-07-17): Now learned at level 56 (was 63) and range increased to 30 yards (was 20).
- Hotfix (2017-10-10): Now reduces the target's movement speed by 50% for Unholy and Frost Death Knights in PvP situations (was 70%).
- Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): No longer available to Blood or applies [Frost Fever]. Now reduces movement speed by 70%, up from 60%.
- Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Now reduces movement by 60%, down from 95%. The target no longer regains a % of their movement each second
- Patch 3.3.3 (2010-03-23): The ability now innately applies Frost Fever to a target.
- Hotfix (2009-12-14): Chains of Ice is no longer limited to a single target. In addition, when Chains of Ice is used on a snare immune target with [Endless Winter] talented, it will once again apply Frost Fever.
- Patch 3.3.0 (2009-12-08): This ability will no longer appear to land on targets which are immune.
- Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): Now reduces movement by 95% instead of 100%. The main effect of this change will be that targets of Chains of Ice will not have to re-issue a movement command to continue moving.
- Patch 3.0.8 (2009-01-20): This ability is no longer able to land on death knights who have Anti-Magic Shell active.
- Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Added.
