Chaos Bolt is a level 12 Destruction Warlock ability. It deals direct Chaos damage to the target, and always critically strikes. Damage is increased by the warlock's critical strike chance.

Patches and hotfixes

  • Battle for Azeroth Patch 8.0.1 (2018-07-17): Chaos Bolt has received a new visual animation.
  • Legion Patch 7.2.5 (2017-06-13):
    • Chaos Bolt's damage increased by 40%, and projectile speed increased by 25%.
    • Chaos Bolt cast from the Chaos Bolt rift now deals 60% increased damage.
  • Legion Hotfix (2017-02-21): "Chaos Bolt's damage has been increased by 25% in PvP situations."
  • Legion Hotfix (2017-01-17): "Chaos Bolt deals normal damage in PvP situations (was an additional 10% damage)."
  • Legion Hotfix (2016-11-14): "Chaos Bolt now deal an additional 35% damage against players (was 20%)."
  • Legion Patch 7.1.0 (2016-10-25): Now learned at level 12, down from level 26.

  • Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Redesigned. Now costs [Burning Embers] instead of mana, causes Shadow instead of Fire damage, no longer has a cooldown, and always critically strikes. No longer ignores resistances or absorb effects.
  • Cataclysm Patch 4.0.3a (2010-11-23): Damage has been reduced by approximately 12%.
  • Wrath of the Lich King Patch 3.1.3 (2009-06-02): This spell no longer ignores damage reduction effects of the target.
