Crystal of Zin-Malor
|The subject of this article was removed from World of Warcraft in patch 4.0.3a.
The Crystal of Zin-Malor is a powerful relic that can contain and control strong arcane forces. Its bearer becomes capable of incredible arcane power, but only if truly worthy. One hundred years ago, a group of Highborne led by Archmage Maenius came from Quel'Thalas to Winterspring in search of the crystal. They attempted to siphon its energies to make themselves more powerful, but the ritual went awry and caused a great explosion that destroyed the temple, and shattered the crystal. Decades later, Aurora Skycaller managed to forge the relic's shattered pieces together with the help of an adventurer. It was then brought to Darnassus and given to one who would not abuse its power, Archdruid Fandral Staghelm.
Obtained during in Winterspring, after gathering a number of items from across the world.
- The crystal was initially an equipable uncommon trinket before being changed into a quest item in Wrath of the Lich King. Upon being equipped, it would deem the player unworthy and drain their mana and health until they unequipped it, or died. Players would often choose to not turn in the quest, so they could hold onto the crystal and use it to kill themselves when needed. It could be used to bypass locked doors or shorten flight paths, especially since it did not cause armor damage.
- Patch 4.0.3a (2010-11-23): Removed.
- Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): This item was changed from an equipable trinket to a non-equipable quest item.
