Dawn of the Aspects is a five-part e-book series written by Richard A. Knaak. It focuses on the former Dragon Aspects dealing with losing their immortal powers after defeating Deathwing, and there will also be flashbacks to the time before they first became Aspects in the era of Galakrond and the proto-dragons.[1]

Description[]

THE AGE OF DRAGONS IS OVER.

Uncertainty plagues Azeroth’s ancient guardians as they struggle to find a new purpose. This dilemma has hit Kalecgos, youngest of the former Dragon Aspects, especially hard. Having lost his great powers, how can he—or any of his kind—still make a difference in the world?

The answer lies in the distant past, when savage beasts called proto-dragons ruled the skies. Through a mysterious artifact found near the heart of Northrend, Kalecgos witnesses this violent era and the shocking history of the original Aspects: Alexstrasza, Ysera, Malygos, Neltharion, and Nozdormu.

In their most primitive forms, the future protectors of Azeroth must stand united against Galakrond, a bloodthirsty creature that threatens the existence of their race. But did these mere proto-dragons face such a horrific adversary alone, or did an outside force help them? Were they given the strength they would become legendary for...or did they earn it with blood? Kalecgos’s discoveries will change everything he knows about the events that led to the...

DAWN OF THE ASPECTS

Part 1[]

The former Dragon Aspects are on the brink of going their separate ways to forge new destinies. As Kalecgos ponders the uncertain future awaiting his kind, he uncovers a mysterious artifact that allows him to see through the eyes of his late predecessor, Malygos. Intense visions bombard Kalecgos, transporting him to a time when the original Aspects were no more than primitive proto-dragons. Across ancient Kalimdor’s northern plains, they fought for survival against each other and a terrifying creature that dominated the era: the Father of Dragons, Galakrond. But many questions remain for Kalecgos. What are the origins of this strange artifact? Are its visions a gift, or a curse?

Part 2[]

Powerful visions of history torment Kalecgos, forcing him to witness Galakrond's brutality firsthand. The ravenous beast terrorizes ancient Kalimdor, consuming everyone in his path. The original Aspects and other proto-dragons struggle to temper their savage rivalries long enough to make a stand against their merciless enemy, but their efforts might prove useless. A horrific new threat is rising from Galakrond's shadow: the undead. Apart from this chilling discovery, Kalecgos is troubled by a mysterious hooded figure from the distant past who appears in the present, pushing the blue dragon's sanity to the breaking point.

Part 3[]

Alliances and betrayals are taking shape among the ancient proto-dragons as they rally against Galakrond. Kalecgos—seeing these events through Malygos's eyes—is quickly losing a sense of his own identity. Amid harrowing attacks from undead and living proto-dragons, the former blue Aspect is finding it harder to separate the past from the present… and his thoughts from those of Malygos. Meanwhile, the archmage Jaina Proudmoore launches an investigation of the strange artifact granting Kalecgos visions of history. Her efforts lead to startling discoveries about the relic's origins and the deadly fate that may lie ahead for her blue dragon companion.

Part 4[]

Chaos grips the icy wastes of ancient Kalimdor. A united group of proto-dragons has taken wing for a daring assault against Galakrond and his throngs of mindless undead. The blue dragon Kalecgos bears mute witness to the chilling battle through the eyes of his predecessor, Malygos. He and his new comrades—Alexstrasza, Nozdormu, Ysera, and Neltharion—soon find themselves struggling tooth and claw for survival. Their only hope for the future may lie with an enigmatic figure named Tyr. But even with the aid of this mighty stranger, do the proto-dragons have any chance of withstanding Galakrond’s fury?

Part 5[]

Time is running out for Kalec. The strange artifact forcing him to experience past events will soon destroy the blue dragon's identity. As Jaina Proudmoore struggles to break the relic's hold over Kalec, visions of ancient history continue assaulting him. Through the eyes of Malygos, he witnesses a desperate fight taking shape above the icy wastes of northern Kalimdor. Galakrond, driven by an insatiable hunger, is poised to consume all life on the continent. Only five proto-dragons—Alexstrasza, Malygos, Nozdormu, Neltharion, and Ysera—possess the courage to stand against the monstrous creature. This thrilling finale to the Dawn of the Aspects series will reveal the mysteries behind the artifact, Galakrond's gruesome corruption, and the climactic battle that changed Azeroth forever—the battle that gave rise to the age of the dragons.

Timeline[]

The main events of the book some time after Jaina and Kalec joined Kirin Tor, following the death of Deathwing and the destruction of Theramore. When Jaina and Kalecgos were speaking shortly after Kalec found the Spark of Tyr, Jaina mentions that since his last visit of Dalaran "things have turned upside down" and that she has "been forced to make some changes" she didn't like. This could potentially refer to the events of the purge of Dalaran.

Inconsistencies[]

Although the book acknowledges the destruction of Theramore, and Jaina's ascension into the Council of Six, it also says that "Jaina had also had to balance her duties on the council with governing the island kingdom of Theramore."
