The Light glares brightest upon the most sinister of foes.[1]

Exorcism is a paladin ability.

Background[]

This spell was one of the Paladin's abilities in Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness:

Calling upon the forces of light and purity, the Paladin is able to dispel the walking dead that plague the lands of Azeroth. Exorcism can be used to cause injury to entire groups of these undead terrors, or to utterly eradicate a lone creature. These creatures of Hades seem to gain strength in numbers, thus the greater number of undead that are exorcised within a group, the less actual damage each undead will take. This act is extremely taxing upon the Paladin, making it necessary for him to observe a period of rest before once again invoking this great power.[2]

Tips and tricks[]

  • Exorcism is one of the few ranged attacks available to Paladins.

Patch changes[]

  • Dragonflight Patch 10.0.7 (2023-03-21): Removed.
  • Dragonflight Patch 10.0.5 (2023-01-24): Damage increased by 80% in PvP combat.
  • Dragonflight Patch 10.0.0 (2022-10-25): Re-added and redesigned. Blasts the target with Holy Light, causing (100% of Attack power) Holy damage and burns the target for an additional (138% of Attack power) Holy Damage over 12 sec. Stuns Demon and Undead targets for 5 sec. Applies the damage over time effect to up to 7 nearby enemies if the target is standing within your Consecration.
Previous ability: Blasts the target with Holy Light, causing (168.6% of attack power) Holy damage and generating 1 Holy Power. Your autoattacks have a 20% chance of resetting the cooldown of your Exorcism.
  • Legion Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Removed.
  • Warlords of Draenor Hotfix (2014-10-17): Damage increased by 20%.
  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Ability paladin artofwar [The Art of War]'s effects have been merged into baseline Exorcism.
  • Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Now a Retribution specialization ability. Instant cast. No longer guarantees a critical hit against Undead or Demon targets. Now generates Holy Power.
  • Cataclysm Patch 4.0.3a (2010-11-23): Damage has been increased by approximately 50%.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04):
    • Now has a 1.5 second cast time, but can once again be used on players.
    • Now properly has a 100% chance to be a critical strike when cast on death knights using Spell shadow raisedead [Lichborne].
  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.1.1a (2009-04-28): Fixed the tooltip to display the appropriate text; it also displays an error message when a player tries to use it against other players.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.1.1 (2009-04-21): The paladin ability Exorcism cannot damage other players, but the player game client does not display this change properly.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Now can be used on any target and has a 100% chance to be a critical strike when used on Undead and Demons.
This is to ensure that paladins do not see a drop in their dps when progressing from Naxxramas (which is full of undead) to Ulduar and beyond (not as much undead). Due to this change, [Glyph of Exorcism] was changed to 20% bonus damage.
  • Test-inline Patch 0.7 (2004-06-15): More frequent ranks added.
  • Test-inline Patch 0.6 (2004-04-13): Range Increased.
