Forums: Village pumpWarcraft lore Information from appearances
(This topic is archived. Please do not edit this page!)

I would like to ask, whether to keep or remove information such as - Jaina herself has no role in the book of Stormrage, but she does her appearance as a nightmare of Varian. A lot of minor characters from Stormrage have this information, even if they are dead (Varimathras). Then for instance, Varian. He does appearance in a dream in a short story and so on... it is the case of many heroes.

My questions - removed or keep? And why? --Mordecay (talk) 09:06, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Do what is appropriate in each case. I understand that judging what is appropriate may be difficult; in general, information about trivial novel appearances should be confined to those novel pages. Even on those pages, lists of "Minor" and "Mentioned" characters (see e.g. Jaina Proudmoore: Tides of War#Characters) seem to be going way too far in listing every trivial aspect of the books.
As far as the nightmare manifestations in Stormrage, it is important to understand that these have nothing at all to do with the actions or nature of actual characters. As such, listing that Varian saw something that looked like Jaina (and then describing what not-Jaina looked like at the time) simply isn't interesting in a Biography section on Jaina Proudmoore. It's even too trivial for the Trivia section -- its akin to insisting on adding "and in novel X, someone who looked like Varian sneezed once on page 42."
Similar concerns apply to a one-line mention of not-Varimathras on Varimathras. That might be more interesting on Sylvanas, where it might be at least shed some light as to how the nightmare was trying to affect her.
The guiding principle here is relevance. Passing mentions of characters in novels simply aren't relevant to the overarching point of describing who a character is and what they've done. Phrased differently, character pages should tell the character's story, and not descend into a collection of "also appeared once in a dream in X" shout-outs to various lore sources. — foxlit (talk) 22:00, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
