While adding pages for items that were either removed from the various expansion beta testing phases, or became unavailable for other reasons, I got to wondering if there is any easy way to differentiate?
Many "removed" items can still be linked ingame, but for others you'll just get the "Retrieving item information" error. Both 
[Follower XP Muffin] and 
[Chameleon Lotus] are items that were on WoD beta but didn't make it to live. The Lotus can still be linked ingame, while the other can't. While I guess the "unobtainable" is a good catch-em-all for such items, it can be difficult to pinpoint wherefrom those leftover items used to fit in. I realize that when looking at data from unofficial sites it might not always be 100% reliable, but I think it's safe to add all the items that can at least be linked ingame.
While all items that have been removed from Alphas, Betas and PTRs for that matter are certainly now "unobtainable", there are still many items in the files that were just there, without even being obtainable on the beta. To my knowledge at least, items like 
[Danger Detector Harness] was never available, even on the beta. Perhaps I just never found it, but for items like that I'm not sure whether to pick "unobtainable" or "removedfrombeta".

- It's extremely rare for items that actually make it live to be completely removed entirely; in virtually all cases they're simply rendered unobtainable. A vast majority of "removedfrombeta" items, though, fall into a kind of gray area where they were never actually obtainable in the beta; they existed in the database but never made it into the game, so their existence is technically only known through datamining. My personal opinion is that there's no reason to include such items on Wowpedia, but again that's just me -- so far as I know there aren't actually any rules concerning that. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 06:16, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
