Hackle is a small gnoll warrior.[2] He was exiled from the Woodpaw because he is runt of the litter and is not suited to be a brute. He was captured by the Gordunni clan and brought into Dire Maul to fight for ogre amusement.

Aramar Thorne tried to befriend him but the gnoll said that he would kill him if they were matched together. So the boy tried to work his good magic with his sketchbook as well as showing him Cackle. The ogres indeed paired them in the match so they started fighting. Hackle, somewhat hesitantly. Aram tried running and use his book to fool the ogres. Hackle said that it is not a magic book, so King Gordok roared to kill the boy. Both of them ran for their weapons, yet Aram bested the gnoll but refused to kill him. So the ogre king summoned Old One-Eye. For a moment, Hackle acknowledged his defeat and wanted to die, but Aram convinced him to continue. The two combatants worked together to fight off the wyvern until Aram jumped on her and freed her from a thorn collar.

In the ensuing chaos after King Gordok's death, Hackle assisted in the escape, tripping and killing Wordok. He ultimately left Dire Maul on One-Eye along with Aram, Thalyss Greyoak, Murky and Makasa Flintwill. After they buried Thalyss near Skypeak, he resolved to aid Aram on the road to Gadgetzan.[3]
