Commander Haldrissa Woodshaper was a night elf Sentinel. She was the commander of the night elf forces protecting Ashenvale, promoted to the post just before the Cataclysm. She had been a Sentinel since nearly the creation of the organization. She is said to had fought with Tyrande over millennia and that Ashenvale is her true home, rather than the newer Darnassus. She was actually some centuries older than General Shandris Feathermoon, but recognized the general's skills and eagerly learned all she could, resulting in her promotions within the army.
When the Horde begun their launch over Ashenvale she has been trying to send word to Darnassus of the Horde's increased activity there. She lost one of her eyes from an orc ambush. She fought bravely against the Horde through the forests of Ashenvale, but her forces were not limitless. When Tyrande arrived with Alliance reinforcements to battle with Garrosh Hellscream's invading Horde army, firstly Haldrissa was sent to rest but later on she took part in the battle. With Tyrande left incapacitated sometime during the battle, and with the Horde unleashing their magnataurs on the Alliance, the Alliance was on the verge of defeat. Haldrissa and a handful of surviving Sentinels led an epic charge to kill Garrosh Hellscream. Yet the charge failed to reach their intended target as the Horde took notice of them and impended their path. Haldrissa converted the failed attempt into a trick that would buy the Alliance a reprieve from the onslaught. She killed one of Garrosh's main trumpeters and tricked the Horde into thinking that Garrosh had signaled a recall of the pressing attack. Though an orc also with one eye, Briln, tried to fix her interference, she broke the horn to prevent him from remedying the false orders; he gave her a mortal stab to the heart in trying to stop her from destroying it. Verbally acknowledging her cleverness and bravery, Briln told Haldrissa that she did not deserve to die slowly, which she accepted. The orc gave the aging commander a swift death in honor of her valorous actions.
After the battle, Su'ura Swiftarrow succeeded Haldrissa as commander of Ashenvale's defense, to go along with her previous duties as Warsong Gulch battlemaster.[1]
