Notes

  • These game model heights may or may not reflect canon.
  • Goblins are the only race with females taller than males.
  • In the case of tauren, their "normal / hunched" height corresponds to the height of their scalp, while their "straight" height is the top of their hunch.
  • In the case of male worgen, 6'10" is at the top of their hunch when slouched. At their scalp, they are 6'4". 8'1" is when they stand up straight during the apex of the /kiss animation.

Troll subspecies

Questionmark-medium.png
This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

These numbers are purely speculation, based on the in-game models and a few mentions in lore listed below. These are meant as averages, with height having a tendency to vary a lot.

Race Female Male (hunched) Male (upright)
Dark troll 11'9" 10' 13'
Ice troll 9' 7'11" 10'3"
Zandalari 9'4" - 10'
Frostmane/Winterax tribe 8'4" 7'5" 9'5"
Forest troll 7'10" 7' 9'
Jungle troll 7'1" 6'6.5" 8'[10] - 8'4.5"
Sand troll 6'[11] - 6'7" 6' 7'10"
Dire troll Varies Varies Varies
Notes & references
  • The in-game male jungle troll model's height was updated in Legion.
    • The height difference between the male and female jungle troll model is 15,5 inches (39.37 cm) which is 18.2%.
    • The above percentage difference was thus used to determine the height of females from subspecies with slouching males, which means all but the Zandalari.
  • Ice trolls of the Frostmane and Winterax tribes are said to be smaller on average than ice trolls of the Drakkari tribe.[12]
  • Even the shorter Zandalari tend to stand taller than upright jungle trolls.[13] Most Zandalari males are at least over a head taller or more.[14] Female Zandalari too are said to be taller than many males of other subspecies such as jungle, forest and sand trolls, exceptions being dark and ice trolls.[15]
    • "He stood amid a crowd of Zandalari, members of the troll tribe from which all other tribes had descended. They had become, over the years, taller than most and exalted."[16]
    • The Troll Compendium mentions ice trolls being around the same height/taller than Zandalari.[17] Taking the sheer bulkiness and musculature that ice trolls are meant to have, it wouldn't be too far-fetched for them to be slightly taller.
  • Zathra may be an example of a short sand troll as she is mentioned to be 6' in World of Warcraft: Traveler.
    • In the novel, Zathra was not described to be either short or average for a sand troll, hence 6'7" is the assumed average.
  • Dire troll height varies depending on what species they are of. Dire dark trolls are of course the largest, but can be contested by dire ice trolls. Dire sand trolls could be taller than the average normal dark troll, and so on.
  • Dark troll height is based on the Troll Compendium's mention of them being hulking creatures.[18] Indicating a large size.
    • Although due to a lack of any canonical numbers, the now non-canon RPG mention of them standing nearly 10' tall was used as an influence for their hunched height.
