Crafting reagents, also known as materials (often shortened to mats among players), are items used in profession recipes to craft other items. They differ from tools in that reagents are consumed in the process, while tools are not.

Quality[]

Introduced with Dragonflight, crafting reagents from the Dragon Isles can be gathered and crafted as different qualities Quality icons that affects an item from crafting.

  • Tier 1 Tier 1 icon
  • Tier 2 Tier 2 icon
  • Tier 3 Tier 3 icon
  • Tier 4 Tier 4 icon
  • Tier 5 Tier 5 icon

Gear crafted from professions will receive increased item level depending on the tier level while consumables and other reagents like finishing reagents could provide better stats.

Optional reagents can be used to boost the stats of an item while crafting.

Finishing reagents[]

Introduced with Dragonflight, finishing reagents can be used to boost crafting stats while crafting an item.

Notes[]

  • Previously, items used in crafting did not have a specific tag and were classified as trade goods in the auction house interface. They were later[When?]  reclassified and given the "Crafting Reagent" tag.
    • Some items used in crafting were classified as reagents rather than trade goods—for example, Inv feather 05 [Ironfeather]. This was presumably a mistake.
