Inks are ingredients for the Inscription and Engineering professions in World of Warcraft.

Inscription

Ink is one of the primary ingredients used for the Inscription profession which was implemented in Patch 3.0.2. Inks require a pigment to create.

Engineering

[Engineer's Ink] Is purchasable from vendors and is used only to create the actual recipe/plan the alchemist/blacksmith would then learn:

These recipes would allow alchemists or blacksmiths to create items also used only by the engineers for creating their special designs.

In Warcraft RPG

Ink is also a defensive weapon used by some sea creatures, like the octopus.[1]

Another use of ink is by scribes, authors, novelists, etc to write their material. Some people use the ink from octopi for their writing.[2]
