Mages are unique in their ability to store mana for future use without alchemical aid.[1]
"Typical magecraft, to conjure a thing of such beauty only to sacrifice it." - Raesa Morningstar[2]

Conjure Mana Gem is a mage spell which conjures a mana stone that stores mana for later use. Mana stones are soulbound, and cannot be traded to other players. They are unique, meaning that a mage can only carry a single stone at a time regardless of rank. When used, the stone instantly restores mana, similar to a mana potion with its own 2 minute cooldown. Mana stones are not considered conjured items and do not disappear after logging off for 15 minutes. The versions with more than one charge regenerate charges while you are not logged in. (Lower level ones are, of course, consumed on use.)

Notes

These stones are on a different cooldown than potions and Warlock Healthstones.

The icons for these items do not match the actual gems of the same name, so don't use the icon as a type indicator (Mana Agate uses  [Huge Emerald] icon, Mana Jade uses  [Moss Agate] icon, Mana Citrine uses  [Large Opal] icon, Mana Ruby uses  [Blood Shard] icon, and Mana Emerald uses  [Jade] icon).

Tips and tactics

Don't wait until you're out of mana to use a stone. In a fight that will be more than two minutes long, use your first charge early in the fight, after you have used enough mana to use the stone and not over-restore mana. A second charge will be available before the end of the fight.

Since all potions share a cooldown timer, you can use this instead of a mana potion that would put the health (and mana) potion on the cooldown timer. If you always uses your mana stone before your mana potion, you have quicker access to your health potion.

Two pieces of Frostfire Garb increases the mana gain by 40% and grants you +225 spellpower for 15 seconds after using the mana gem.

Patches and hotfixes

  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Removed.
  • Hotfix (2013-09-11): "Fixed an issue where a Mana Gem modified by the Glyph of Loose Mana was restoring more mana than intended. The total amount of mana restored should now be the same as an unglyphed Mana Gem."
  • Wrath of the Lich King Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): Conjured mana gems no longer share a cooldown with Warlock Healthstones.
  • Wrath of the Lich King Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Conjured mana gems no longer disappear from your backpack after being logged out for more than 15 minutes. Higher ranks of Conjure Mana Gem will recharge an existing mana gem to maximum charges.
  • The Burning Crusade Patch 2.3.2 (2008-01-08): Conjure Mana Gem mana restore variance substantially reduced, (Rank 5 – Emerald) now restores 2340 to 2460 mana and has three charges.
  • The Burning Crusade Patch 2.1.0 (2007-05-22): Conjure Mana Emerald now triggers a global cooldown as intended.
