|Warcraft: The Official Movie Novelization|
June 7, 2016
Paperback, Audiobook, Digital
The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home. So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.
Differences from the film
While the novelization features abundant dialogue not featured in the Warcraft film, along with numerous extra scenes and even some minor characters, in some places it specifically diverges from the film's depiction. The below table lists the main differences.
|Gul'dan restores life to the stillborn Go'el by holding him in his hand.||Gul'dan restores life to the stillborn Go'el by draining the life from a nearby deer, and breathing it into the infant.|
|The Eye of the Kirin Tor on Khadgar's arm glows brightly and produces a warm tingling sensation, guiding him to a tome in Karazhan's library.||The Eye of the Kirin Tor on Khadgar's arm glows brightly and produces odd clicking noises, guiding Khadgar to a tome in Karazhan's library.|
|Durotan takes pity on the enchained Garona, and breaks her chain with his axe. He then holds out his hand to her, offering to bear her to safety, but after a moment's hesitation she runs away, back toward the battle, preferring to die as an orc than live as a slave.||Durotan takes pity on the enchained Garona, and breaks her chain with his axe. She seems to believe he is about to slay her, and when her chain breaks she immediately flees away from him, accidentally running straight into Khadgar.|
|Khadgar, eyes closed, realizes the birdsong has ceased, and on instinct whirls around to find Garona leaping from above him to attack, and immediately uses his magic to pin her against a tree.||Garona runs out of the bushes directly in front of Khadgar. They both stop and stare for a moment, then as Khadgar begins to cast a spell, Garona leaps at him, but his magic pins her against a tree.|
|Lothar's boomstick damages Blackhand's right hand.||Lothar's boomstick damages Blackhand's left hand.|
|Garona inadvertently reveals to Khadgar the hooded figure hidden in his copied sketch by holding it the wrong way.||Khadgar discovers the figure himself, and shows the sketch to Lothar, who at first holds the sketch the wrong way.|
- The line "Where is the Guardian?" said by the Kul Tiran delegate in the book is said by the Lordaerian Delegate in the movie.
In addition to extended dialogue and events within the scenes seen in the film, the novelization also includes numerous additional scenes. Some of these are expected to feature in the film's extended edition or director's cut, if released.
