  • Rapture
  • Your Power Word: Shield has no cooldown.
  • Duration: 8 seconds

Rapture is a specialization ability for Discipline priests, available at level 50. It removes the cooldown on [Power Word: Shield] for 8 seconds.

Tips and tactics

  • Using Rapture while soloing is not recommended. It can still be useful as a last resort for keeping yourself alive while attempting to run away, however, especially if you've talented into [Body and Soul].
  • Rapture is intended to be used in a group or raid setting. It is exceptionally useful for shielding party members if incoming heavy AoE damage is expected.

Previous bug

  • Up to and at least through Patch 3.0.8 this ability appeared to return mana based on the priest's target and not the priest making this ability mostly useless (except mildly helpful when heal/shield a paladin or feral druid).[1]

Patches and hotfixes

  • Hotfix (2017-04-03): "Rapture can no longer be dispelled."
  • Legion Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Re-added and redesigned.
  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Removed.
  • Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.4.0 (2013-09-10): Now energizes the Priest for 100% of the mana cost of Power Word: Shield When the shield is fully consumed or is dispelled (used to energize the Priest with mana equal to 150% of their spirit). This is the modified mana cost for Power Word: Shield, after being reduced by Rapture’s passive effect.
  • Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.2.0 (2013-03-05): Now reduces the cost of [Power Word: Shield] by 25% and provides mana equal to 150% (was 200%) of the priest's Spirit, but no longer benefits from Spirit provided by short-duration bonuses.
  • Hotfix (2012-11-06): "Rapture now returns mana equal to 200% of the Priest's total Spirit (was 150%)."
  • Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Now also removes the cooldown on Power Word: Shield. Mana gain changed from 7% of total mana to 150% of total spirit.
  • Hotfix (2011-02-18): "Rapture now returns 2/5/7% of maximum mana when Power Word: Shield is consumed, up from 2/4/6%."
  • Cataclysm Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Mana gain increased from 1.5/2/2.5% to 2/4/6%. No longer grants energy/rage/mana on targets cast with Power Word: Shield.
  • Wrath of the Lich King Patch 3.0.8 (2009-01-20): Rapture: This talent will now correctly return mana for Power Word: Shield based on the caster's mana pool instead of the target's mana pool.
NOT FIXED (see Bug section above)
