Rifen was a Forsaken rogue who was one of many Horde assassins sent to attack night elf outposts and patrols in Ashenvale prior to the War of the Thorns. He had the habit of poking at his exposed collarbone, a tic that unsettled his partner Lorash Sunbeam.[1]

Rifen and Lorash prepared to ambush a group of Sentinels led by Commander Anaris Windwood near Silverwind Refuge. When the Sentinels were distracted by the arrival of Ferryn and Delaryn Summermoon, Rifen climbed a nearby tree and dropped down on Anaris, stabbing her in the back with both of his daggers, killing her. He quickly rolled to his feet, cutting open the throat of Marua, after which Lorash joined the fray as well. Together they managed to kill a total six Sentinels before the night elves began to fight back effectively, forcing Lorash to flee. Rifen wasn't so lucky; Eriadnar sliced his torso and cut off one of his arms, after which Ferryn pounced on him and pinned him to the ground.[1][2] Delaryn began interrogating the dying Forsaken, threatening to cut off his fingers with one of his daggers, which were laced with painful poison. Rifen gloated that rogues were attacking night elf outposts all over Ashenvale, which made Delaryn realize that the Horde was clearing a path through Ashenvale. Before Delaryn had a chance to kill Rifen herself, he expired from his wounds.[2]
