Shalasyr was once a novice priestess of the Temple of Elune some ten thousand years ago. Being or having been priestesses during that time, Tyrande Whisperwind, Shandris Feathermoon and Maiev Shadowsong all knew her to some extent.
After the War of the Ancients she vanished secretly together with her lover, and later husband, Jarod Shadowsong. It was generally assumed that she wandered away and was killed in an accident, even though searchers never found a body. She and Jarod had agreed to keep their relationship secret, as he had not yet decided to leave their people behind and, hoping that she would not follow him into what amounted to self-exile, she would be free from having to answer questions as to why he had left.
In the end, she would leave with him, and they would spend the next 10,000 years enjoying their life together in the wilderness. Some time after the Battle for Mount Hyjal occurred, they heard rumors that they had become mortal.
Some time after the Cataclysm occurred, Shalasyr was struck by an illness due to aging. While she and Jarod agreed to bring her to Darnassus to be saved by Tyrande and Elune, Shalasyr actually knew that she was dying and that it was her time. She privately wished to die among her people, and to make certain her husband would not remain alone after her passing. Once in the city, they run into Malfurion Stormrage who helps carry her to Tyrande in an attempt to save her. Just as Shalasyr had already expected, by the time they arrive it's too late to do anything and she had already passed away. Tyrande arranged the wake for Jarod and had Shalasyr dressed, as was proper, as one of the Sisterhood of Elune.
While Tyrande officiates her funeral in the Temple of the Moon, Elune guided Shalasyr's spirit from her body and she looks at Jarod, who then relives all the tender moments they had shared together over the centuries as if they had only happened yesterday. Her spirit then shrank into a tiny, glowing sphere that dissipated into the moonlight. Jarod assumes that it was merely a "visual effect" of Tyrande's doing and later thanks her for it, but learns that she had done nothing (for her, doing so would have been disrespectful toward Jarod) and that he was the only one to see it. Tyrande explained that Elune had made it a private experience, meant only for Shalasyr and Jarod alone.
Her funeral bier was led by Jarod and Tyrande outside the city, where Malfurion and some of his druids placed the body in a small patch of soft grass and bushes and lovingly arranged by two female druids to appear as if dreaming. Malfurion then grew a drape of white and golden flowers over her.
