Subraces?[]

The wowpedia description says on several races that they are "subraces" of a certain race. Like the Zandalari of the trolls. They are not. There's no "troll race" but different types, with Zandalari being one of the type and not a "subrace". --Mordecay (talk) 01:12, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Subrace of the playable races, not the lore races. Xporc (talk) 01:14, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Today's panels said that Blizzard don't consider them to be "subraces", or that they don't want to use that term, but I understand the logic here. --Mordecay (talk) 01:18, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Ah, well, if they don't want to use that term, we should avoid it too then Xporc (talk) 02:08, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Even so, I don't want to derive logic that is not there from this. There is too a "troll race" with various subraces below that. Playable trolls are both island/jungle trolls and generic "trolls", while Zandalari trolls get the descriptor. If Blizzard says that allied races are not subraces, then go with that, but don't be too hasty to see rules where none are.--SWM2448 03:47, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
They meant they're not subraces in the sense that they're unrelated to the current playable races (so Dark Irons are not just "variant dwarves," for example). Apart from needing to be unlocked, Blizzard is treating them exactly like any other race, with their racials and class choices being dictated by what makes sense for that race and not dependent on what another playable race has. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 07:06, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Faction[]

Let's say I wanna a void elf, I have an Alliance toon who hasn't started the Argus content. Horde toon however is exalted with the required faction. Can I start playing the void elf like this? --Mordecay (talk) 00:29, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

For what they said in the twitch video I think you can. Look at it, I think it's the first question or somewhere in the beginning: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/224022383 --Ryon21 (talk) 00:35, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Legion or Bfa?[]

I've seen that the template of the playable races, some of the allied have been changed to the legion inline. I know that they are out with Legion but still, aren't they a feature of BfA? Especially since they are only unlockable by pre-ordering the new expansion? I don't know how to approach this. --Ryon21 (talk) 16:32, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Hmm, demon hunter, accessible through preordering Legion during WoD has the Legion tag. --Mordecay (talk) 16:51, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
Yep, what I thought. Lets see what the others have to say. --Ryon21 (talk) 17:07, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
While true, during the Q&A, Ion said they may as well have been a Legion feature cause that is how they plan to treat allied races. Races associated with the content that is current you'll be able to recruit races from, which is why the Zandalari won't be available to us till we've been in BFA for a while. We also only got demon hunters early by 3 weeks? Whereas these four races we'll have for several months before release. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 17:16, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
Okay, good enough for me. Legion stuff then. --Ryon21 (talk) 17:43, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
I dunno. Even though they're occurring during Legion, it's still a feature that requires purchase of Battle for Azeroth to access. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 20:53, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
Both sides have valid reasonings. Personally I'd pick Legion, because of the timeline, but I don't know.. PeterWind (talk) 21:59, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
I feel pretty strongly that if a particular expansion is required, it should be flagged as content for that expansion. Wasn't that supposed to be the original point of the tags? -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 22:05, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
Agreed. And demon hunters are Legion content, not WoD. -- MyMindWontQuiet 22:06, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
The way I see it is we're still in 7.3. While demon hunters were a pre-order bonus too, they weren't available until we were in 7.0. But allied races came before we got to 8.0. I'd compare it to how Operation Gnomeregan and Zalazane's Fall use Wrath tags instead of Cata. ReignTG (talk) 23:54, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
Except you didn't have to buy Cataclysm to participate in those events. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 08:12, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
We're still in the 7.3 patch cycle and release date for BfA is not even known, so these allied races could hardly be categorized as BfA-only content IMO. They are more like Legion DLC. I have no strong opinion anyway, both solutions would be fine to me. Xporc (talk) 08:15, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
Except they're not a separate DLC purchase; they're explicitly BfA content made available early for those who preorder BfA. They were announced as BfA content at BlizzCon, and when they first showed up in the 7.3.5 datamining Blizzard clarified that they were still BfA content: "Note that since development of the new expansion is now in full swing, datamining sites are likely to see some bits and pieces of features that are part of Battle for Azeroth (such as Allied Races)." -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 10:36, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
Actually they did release a date for BFA, September 21 2018.
And I agree with DarkTZeratul, it doesn't make any sense to label them as Legion content. Sure, they were released in advance. But they're still BFA content. You need to buy the BFA expansion in order to play them, that literally means they are a BFA feature, and thus BFA content. -- MyMindWontQuiet 11:01, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

When you guys finish to discuss this, remember to move Category:Forge of Aeons if you settle on tagging Allied Races as BFA rather than Legion. Xporc (talk) 19:13, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Allied Races and the Horde/Alliance[]

So how should we go about adding the allied races to the Horde and Alliance articles? Should they just go under the main members like the other playable races, should they placed in the allies section, or should we create new sections on the Horde and Alliance pages called Allied Races?--X59 (talk) 06:32, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Right now I'm leaning towards either allies or a new Allied Races section, but I'm curious to see where the discussion goes. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 08:13, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
Either of those would be fine with me, although I lean more towards an "Allied races" section. PeterWind (talk) 08:58, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
Yep, Allied races section. --Mordecay (talk) 11:03, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
Same here. -- MyMindWontQuiet 11:06, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
After thinking about it I'll cast my vote in for an Allied Races section as well.--X59 (talk) 18:49, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Fan concepts[]

i’m not sure this is an appropriate place to host all of those fan concepts. maybe if it was just a couple examples it’d be neat, but it seems like it’s growing out of control. there are currently twelve images in that gallery—only five fewer than the number of official images, which imo is too much space to dedicate to fan content

we already have a page dedicated to race ideas. no need to dilute pages about official content with those ideas too —Eithris (talk) 16:41, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Might be a good idea to simply move the fan concept gallery over to the "Race ideas" page instead yeah. PeterWind (talk) 16:59, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
