Death Knights

Need to be added. I was going to edit the main page, but the table looked like something that had been generated, and I would have been hard pressed to inject another column with the right colors into it. For reference, DK's start with Axes, Polearms, Swords, 2H Axes, and 2H Swords; And All Armor Proficiencies (but not Shields).--Shadowics (talk) 01:47, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Their ya go! Hand done.--Mentok (Mentok) 02:46, 17 November 2008

This is information that just doesn't belong on the "category" page so I broke it out and set it up as an article listed in the category. This should help make the other items in the category easier to find. --BaldMonkey 21:00, 29 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Fact Check

It would be nice if the races which started with each racial-dependant proficiency were noted, and the various staring proficiencies checked. I know I created a troll warrior who did NOT start with 1H swords, or 1H Maces... --Bobson 07:47, 16 November 2006 (EST)

Concur, tauren and dwarf hunter start out with a gun as I recall. --Voidvector 01:52, 22 January 2007 (EST)
Fixed the Starting skills for Hunter ranged and Pallies. Not sure about the other ones yet, so I left them as is --Drozen 12:16, 9 February 2007 (EST)

Thanks, Drozen! --Bobson 17:00, 9 February 2007 (EST)

Hum... on that note I just noticed that all of the racial icons for weapon proficiencies are of the male variety. For some reason it struck me as being a bit sexist, so I changed some of them to females.--Djaevlenselv 13:04, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Which is totally misleading. I mean come on there is already the dot icon, the trainer icon, numbers next to the trainer because you need to know the level and on top of that 8 different race icons into which you then also throw another possible 8 icons to point out that there are also females... let's revert that. Does anyone know which skill applies when fighting with Fishing Pole? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TAP3AH (talk · contr).

No skill is (besides fishing) is needed to fight with pole, as such it also does not increase any skill points. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 00:04, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
I know that, but something has to determine chances to miss, crit etc... So, when you swing with Fishing pole, there must be a weapon skill value applied. It might be Unarmed. TAP3AH 00:22, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
If anything, it prolly uses the skill a druids cat/bear/etc use. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 06:35, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

EQUIPPING a weapon vs. being able to USE that weapon in combat

I came to this page to discover which classes can USE which weapons in combat. It turns out not to be as helpful as I'd hoped. For example, Rogues are still listed as being able to USE guns, bows, and crossbows but the truth is, they may EQUIP these items (presumably now for RP purposes?) but they may not USE them (the 'Shoot' ability no longer exists for rogues and ranged weapons). That said, I think it would be more useful/accurate to format this page such that a person who's interested to know what weapons each class can USE isn't misled by the current information showing which weapons each class may EQUIP (but not USE in combat). Thanks in advance to whomever provides this clarification. Zentherogue (talk) 19:02, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

Druids and Polearms

According to patch notes which are listed/referenced in this article, druids may now train polearms at lvl 20 as with other jobs that are able to. I went ahead and added the battlemaster icon to the table. --Saikouoffenrir (talk) 04:00, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Fishing poles

It seems to me that they don't belong here. Yes, they can be equipped as a weapon, but so can mining picks, etc. Fishing poles don't have a corresponding weapon proficiency (and this is, after all, a page about proficiencies) and you can actually even equip the basic [Fishing Pole] without having trained in fishing.

If you disagree with the removal, this is the place to discuss it. :-)

Requires Simplification

In an effort to make this page stylized, IMHO, it has become FAR too complex and people seem to have forgotten what people need the page for. It needs a simple table so that a new warrior etc can simply look up (a) what weapons they start with (b) what weapons they can learn (c) where to go to get the training. This page no longer gives this information in a simple way. Pictures are unnecessary and should be accompanied by text to make them more readable. There should be a look-up table at the top, and each character class page should be able to contain a link to the heading on this page. --Tequima (talk) 10:06, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm attempting to create a simpler one at User:Harveydrone/Sandbox. Comments welcome. -- Harveydrone 19:24, September 15, 2009 (UTC)
I like it! Between the two versions you've got so far, I think the first is more readable (compact == good). If you're going for simplicity, perhaps de-separate the 1H and 2H columns? User:DarkRyder/Sig 00:56, September 29, 2009 (UTC)
Speaking as the editor responsible for much of the current page's appearance ;-) I think the existing version is already quite simple (it's smaller and, IMO, slightly easier to follow than Harvey's by-class table) and shows off perfectly well what skills are available for your class (just scroll through your column). I certainly take your point about lacking the locations of the various weapon trainers, however. I think there's still considerable value in the current setup (one row/column for each weapon/class), but I do also like the idea of adding a table like Harvey's. Perhaps split the page into "by class" (Harvey's table or one like it) and "by weapon" (the existing tables)? Okay, those might not be the best section names, but you see what I'm getting at. Hunters and Thrown Weapons (Fact Check)

It says here that Hunters cannot use thrown weapons. Is that a mistake or was that ability removed? GolanTrevize (talk) 07:59, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

It was removed in 4.0.1.Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 12:15, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Monk Dual-wielding

Shouldn't the Monk Dual-wielding status be "Specialization" instead of "Starts with"? I think it's not available for the Mistweaver spec. GolanTrevize (talk) 21:10, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

True, I've changed it. -- Taohinton (talk) 21:16, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Although not always 100% accurate, the official WoW talent calculator (or similar) is a good place to check things like this, and if there's nothing on talk pages or history to contradict it, I'd say it's a reasonably sound basis on which to change a page :P -- Taohinton (talk) 21:19, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
