Patch number

This patch number appears to be solely based on a supposed transcript by an unknown person running a french fansite. (http://worldofwarcraft.judgehype.com/index.php?page=commentaires&n=125091)

The translation of the relevant point is: "There will be a patch between version 4.3 and version 5.0 indicating the release of the fourth extension. However, Death's Wing will be the last tier of raid Cataclysm. Patch 4.4 will feature the world event leading to the following extension."

This is not a direct quote from a Blizzard employee or representative, and it is not supported by ANY other official quotes. Nothing by Blizzard, and nothing by anyone else. This is the only source for this patch number. - And it's a bit fishy for other reasons as well:

4.3 is the last tier of raids for Cataclysm. So what warrants labeling this patch as a major patch number? The only content mentioned is the world event. World events have always happened in the first patches numbered by the new expansions version number (i.e. The Zombie event in patch 3.0.2 and The Elemental Invasion in patch 4.0.1). The wording of the transcript might indicate that no number was actually given for the patch, and that it was assumed by the transcriber to be 4.4.

I believe a warning should at least be placed on the page, that this is a speculative patch, and NOT an officially confirmed patch, or documented patch, as the page currently appears to claim. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Zannia (talk · contr).

I'd have to dig through about three months worth of blueposts, but I'm almost positive it's been mentioned by Zarhym. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 18:23, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
Today's the day, and the patch number 5.0.4. --Azaram (talk) 13:58, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Zarhym's comment

All I've seen, and I've done that very digging, is comments about what the world event will bring. No mentions of a number for such a patch. Zannia (talk) 19:55, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

I'd have to agree that no patch number seems to have been mentioned. 'We' also state 4.4.0 on the Theramore Isle page, saying:
During patch 4.4.0, which will lead the game into Mists of Pandaria, Theramore will be destroyed by the Horde, and the leaders of the Alliance, outraged at this matter, will completely devote themselves into the war.
This quote comes from this MMO-Champ page which is itself copied from a translation of a Taiwanese interview with Tom Chilton, posted on scrollsoflore. None of this mentions any patch numbers. In fact MMO-Champ actually states "in 5.0".
Zarhym does talk extensively (or at least argumentatively) about these events here but again, no mention of a patch number that I could see.
So while the info itself seems valid, the only mention of 4.4.0 that I can find is on Judgehype, and the other sites such as MMO-Champ that quoted this. It's possible that it is explicitly mentioned somewhere official, but not in any of the sources cited on this page, or on the Theramore Isle page. --Taohinton (talk) 21:13, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Well it doesn't matter what the patch is going to be officially known as, as this article can be moved to the correct number at any point. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 06:07, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Then I suggest that it is immediately moved to 5.0, as people are using this page as a source for claiming that there will be a patch 4.4.
Agreed, there will be no patch 4.4 and people are still saying that will because of wowpedia´s mistake.--TheMordecay (talk) 13:34, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Or, at the very least that it gets the note added, that the information comes from a single questionable source. Zannia (talk) 09:15, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
5.0 is already taken by the expansion, both patch articles will likely get moved to 5.0.1 or 5.0.3 later down the road. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:27, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Greg Street: No more raid content/pvp season patches until the expansion.

mmo-champion transcript: "Will there be another patch before Mists of Pandaria? We said that we are not going to do another tier of raiding content and PvP season, but we will do the normal pre expansion launch patch. This would include things like the new talents and the other big mechanics changes coming in the expansion, along with the launch event that deals with the Horde vs Alliance story and the introduction of the new continent. The launch event will be similar in magnitude to what we did for Wrath of the Lich King and Burning Crusade."

Sounds a lot like there won't be any more patches until 5.0.x although no patch numbers were mentioned (or refuted) here either. --Zannia (talk) 05:57, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Moved to 5.0

This has now been moved to 5.0 from 4.4 as there has been stated there are no more content patches in Cataclysm. --g0urra[T҂C] 18:59, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Release date

The release date for 5.0.1 is currently listed as March 21st, 2012, ie a week ago. I assume this refers to the release of the Beta client for participants, but that's really not the same thing as the actual release date, which presumably is still TBD. If this is how we normally list it on wowpedia, that's fine, but it seems clearer to say TBD, and on the next line 2012-03-21 (Beta), if we want to specifically list the release date of the Beta client. -- Taohinton (talk) 16:10, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

I have added " (Beta)" to the date. In case of PTR I will also add " (PTR)" to the date, especially if the MoP Closed Beta is online at the same time as PTR 5.0.1 will be (if/in case there will be one). Hans Kamp (talk) 06:34, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

5.0.3 Beta and PTR builds

I cannot test whether there is a new PTR build, since I have access to MoP Beta, but not to PTR 5.0.3. I have both clients on my computer, but when I patch the PTR 5.0.3 client, the beta client is patched as well.

Can those of you, that are not eligible for MoP Beta, but is for PTR 5.0.3, check the PTR 5.0.3 client builds? since I can't. Hans Kamp (talk) 06:48, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

I haven't answer yet to this question. Hans Kamp (talk) 18:37, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
