Old discussion

"Ironforge dwarves also call mountain kings "thanes," an honorary title that respects the mighty warriors' prowess and strength. This moniker also recalls the day when most, if not all, mountain kings, truly were kings of the mountains, leading the dwarf clans in the deep caves. In modern times, Ironforge has a single king - but many mountain kings are nobles or other honorary personages, the scions of families whose names and deeds echo through the generations."-Alliance Player's Guide.

Mountain Kings are not true thanes, but only called that as an honorary title.Baggins 17:08, 5 January 2007 (EST) contradicts this, but I presume the guide is more recent? --Tinkerer 17:10, 5 January 2007 (EST)
I think I see some non-dwarf and non-vrykul thanes in WoW... Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 12:57, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Dwarven and vrykul kings

Would it be accurate to list dwarven and vrykul kings as thanes? What about the mountain king unit/class?--SWM2448 21:53, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Anyone have any thoughts on if the class-title relationships are universal for those races?--SWM2448 15:59, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Mountain King sounds more a class to me, and Thane a political role

How much do they seem to overlap?--SWM2448 16:03, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Merge suggestion

Seems this article contains what is on the mountain kings article, and just has a bigger list of characters on it. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 00:40, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

While that's true. It also contains Vrykul. Who aren't mountain kings. Inv helmet 44.pngIconSmall Vincent.gif The Artist Formerly Known As, MoneygruberTheGoblinMind your manners (talk contribs) 00:42, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Well, much like several of the other aristocrat titles, which redirect to List of aristocracy, the thanes are already listed there and this is merely a duplicate info. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 00:49, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
I'm still against that list. So you think that "thane" and "mountain king" are fully synonymous (continuing from above)?--SWM2448 02:58, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
I think thane doesn't really have any info about it, other than being another term for mountain kings, and being a title given to powerful leaders. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 04:55, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
I have to wholeheartedly protest the idea of merging. The use of Thane in the Vrykul (who do not have Mountain Kings) prevents them from being synonymous, and if we wanted to, we could actually analyze the meaning. If your only reason to merge is 'we don't know much about non-Dwarf thanes', then don't merge. Everen (talk) 05:32, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
I oppose a merge as well. Dwarven thanes should simply have a small summary as well as a link to the main articles, and this article would mostly be about other thanes. --g0urra[T҂C] 08:52, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Aerie Peak NPC

So there's a "citation needed" mark about an Aerie Peak NPC. Has said NPC been founded? If not, I think we should delete that paragraph.--Cemotucu (talk) 06:04, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

If it ever existed, then it was likely removed in Cataclysm. It may be talking about the LoC info, but Brann narrates that, not an NPC.--SWM2448 19:45, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

Magni and Thaurissan

Their ancestors were thanes at least, according to War of the Three Hammers (History of Warcraft). Xporc (talk) 12:31, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
