The subject of this article or section is part of Hallow's End, a seasonal event that lasts two weeks. Once the event has run its course, this will no longer be available until next year, but there are no guarantees.

  • The Horseman's Reins
  • Binds when picked up
  • Mount
  • Use: Teaches you how to summon this mount.  This mount changes depending on your Riding skill and location.
  • Requires Level 20
  • Requires Apprentice Riding

The Horseman's Reins teaches you to summon the Headless Horseman's Mount which serves both as a flying mount and a ground mount. It was the first flying horse mount in the game, and the only one to do so without wings.

The saddle is buried in the cemetery of the Scarlet Monastery.[1]

The Headless Horseman's steed

This rare mount can be looted from  [Loot-Filled Pumpkin] which is awarded once per day to players who use the Dungeon Finder to form a group to kill the Headless Horseman during the Hallow's End seasonal event.

Mount Journal

Be it into the flood, or into the fire, this one will go where you require.

Notes

It functions as a ground mount in no-fly zones, in the water and in areas where you don't have the appropriate flying skills (Outland without Expert or better riding, Northrend without [Cold Weather Flying] and Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms without [Flight Master's License]), it functions as a ground mount, while in other areas it functions as a flying mount.

Prior to Patch 4.0.1, it was not possible to mount flying mounts while swimming. Because the Headless Horseman's Mount functions as a ground mount in the water, unlike regular flying mounts, it was possible to mount in the water prior to 4.0.1 then take off by jumping out of the water.

As of patch 3.0.2, this mount was usable in combat, although it must have been channeled without interruption like any other mount.

Achievement

Obtaining these reins will reward the Feat of Strength [The Horseman's Reins].
