BQL Redirect

Hey Coobra. I was wondering why BQL as a redirect to Blood-Queen Lana'thel was deleted. I've seen a few people use this acronym and don't quite see why it was removed. Thanks. Techhead7890 (talk) 22:20, July 31, 2010 (UTC)

To may knowledge we try not to give abbreviation redirects to bosses, just places. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 22:31, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Weird

When I went to the Genn Greymane page all I was able to see was the "Facts about Genn Greymane" from the RDF feed and I was only able to view the article in question after using the article history. Do you have any idea or clue on what may have caused this? --Sairez (talk) 12:26, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

1920 x 1080 Images

All of the images I upload were originally 1920 x 1080, but I saved them to 1000 x whatever because they load faster in the popup. Honestly 1920 x 1080 take forever to load in popups. Is there any policy in place to limit the dimension sizes of uploaded images? (Reference: http://www.wowpedia.org/File:Stonemaul_Hold.jpg) Korval (talk) 22:01, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

There is an image guideline, that you can find at WP:IMG under Resolution, that asks users to try and keep images to about 1280x960 as a reasonable upper size limit... but it's not required. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 22:28, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Coobra, images have lately been taking forever to load. Sometimes they don't even load at all. I also try and upload images and images are corrupted. My connection and the images are fine. Please advise. This is happening a lot now. Korval (talk) 03:18, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

There's a soundfile which was implemented in one of the Cataclysm beta builds, which reveals Rommath to be working for the Twilight Hammer. Would that be considered datamined or something? elink to www.AHseller.com/Herbalism

Hi Cobra,

You’ve removed my external link from Herbalism page and suggested to move it to guides section:

> "Undo revision 2353603 by […Andrewginda…] You can link your stuff on guides, but not here"

Thanks for your suggestion, but I don’t think www.AHseller.com/Herbalism fits well into leveling guides page. This is not really a leveling guide and it’s not even a guide at all. www.AHseller.com/Herbalism is online database that scans AH on regular basic and helps visitors to find best herbs for making gold. This is database that helps to make gold, but it’s not a guide. If there is a market fluctuation (for example because of a new patch) the whole www.AHseller.com/Herbalism page will change reflecting new prices, new volume and new top herbs for making gold. AHseller is totally free resource, has minimal ads and provides data on making gold that is not available anywhere.

AHseller provides additional information about Herbalism topic, but does not repeat information already available on the wiki page. Making gold is a big part of WoW game and AHseller provides valuable information for WoWWiki users complimenting Herbalism page. It is directly related to the article on the wiki page. Wowpedia:External links policy specifically recommends to place database sites into elinks on the corresponding page because of a dynamic nature of the content.

It seems to me that I’m following external links policy, I obey elinks rules and I’m adding valuable addition to the topic described on the page.

Thanks for reading my message. Please let me know your recommendation if Herbalism is appropriate place for elink to www.AHseller.com/Herbalism

Andrew (talk · contr) 18:46, August 12, 2010

Sounds like a guide to making money to me, but /shrug... add it back if you like. Don't use me as any type of reference saying "Coobra said it was ok" though, cause I'm not ok with it, but I won't remove it again either. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 23:04, August 12, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for taking a look. Based on this I'll revert both of your undos (Mining is the same thing) Please let me know if you figure out how to improve professions wiki pages, so wowwiki users can find info how to make gold with each profession. Making gold is a big part of the game, everything what's available on internet is crap and not free. It would be great if wowwiki could help the visitors in this important topic, but obviously the challenge is that this content is highly dynamic and it changes with each patch or AH market fluctuation. For now I see nothing better then what External links policy recommends: add elinks for all dynamic content. But it would be cool to do something better than just elinks. Thanks.Andrewginda (talk) 22:11, August 13, 2010 (UTC)
You should however expand that information since some realms seem to be missing, the EU realm Moonglade being one. I wouldn't trust the site. --g0urra[T҂C] 22:24, August 13, 2010 (UTC)
I agree and I'm working on adding more realms to AHseller.com Still combined data (chose ““All Realms”” from drop down) is pretty good and trustable. Even if your realm is missing, “”All Realms”” data can give you a pretty close picture on what is good for making gold on your realm and what is not. Andrewginda (talk) 22:38, August 13, 2010 (UTC)

I've been reviewing Smitrovic's contributions. Most are some sort of advertisement for a website or Youtube channel. Jaruk Bloodfyre

Hello, upon reading the Family Values article, I noticed that Jaruk Bloodfyre has no own article yet - or rather, that there was one and that it got deleted by you. Wondering, was it because it was and would only be a stub article, or because the content was incorrect (plus a stub) - from what I can read from the "redlink" page, it was just an npcbox with even incorrect info, such as stating he was a shaman, and that he's of the Warsong Offensive faction. Would you mind if I created that article again, with only confirmable info in the box, plus a short bio? I feel this character deserves his own article. ~ Nathanyel (talk) 14:52, August 19, 2010 (UTC)

The article was deleted because the user who created it removed the content right away, leading to believe it was a mistake to create the article in the first place. You're free to create the article. --g0urra[T҂C] 16:42, August 19, 2010 (UTC)

Dragon categories

You know, I was just thinking when I was editing the drakonid pages for BWL that I wished there was a category to put them in that identified their color but didn't necessarily attribute them to that flight, since the ones in BWL are different colors but clearly all affiliated with the black dragonflight (or at least Nefarian). That being said, is the absence of Chromatic Dragon and Twilight Dragon categories intentional, or just an oversight? -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 21:24, August 20, 2010 (UTC)

Well, I just got around to finally making the main dragonflight categories for dragons... but I don't see myself making categories for those... least not until we see more twilight dragons. As for the chromatic, I'm undecided as of right now. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:29, August 20, 2010 (UTC)
Fair enough. One more question, then. Leave the drakonids in a single large "Drakonid" category, or split it up amongst the flights? -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 21:45, August 20, 2010 (UTC)
Oh I didn't split them already either... *goes to check* .. oh I see why. I probably thought at the time, that the category was already small and splitting them up would probably make each one tiny, but at this point... might as well make them all match right? Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:49, August 20, 2010 (UTC)

Why do pages such as Overmaster Pyron show in Category:Pages with DEFAULTSORT conflicts? As far as I can see, there is only one defaultsort line, and it appears valid? Is there another one I can't see? -=- IconSmall DrakeAzure.gif Drazisil [t/c] 16:29, August 22, 2010 (UTC)

That's because the DEFAULTSORT from  [Pattern: Cloak of Fire] was included too. Since {{item}} transcludes the marked area of the article, only the tooltip would be included. Unfortunately it used <noinclude> instead of <onlyinclude> to transclude the tooltip, so the DEFAULTSORT added at the bottom also got on the mob article. --g0urra[T҂C] 16:43, August 22, 2010 (UTC)

Leogrimn

[bows before you] I am Leogrimn, a veteran player of World Of Warcraft. I have often used this wikia for information, and I have finally decided to join. I am vigilant and constantly on, and I enjoy being helpful. If I see a problem, I will leave a notification on the article talk page, as I am horrible with manipulating wiki coding and making things do what I want. If there is anything I can do, please, let me know.--Leo And his beloved lynx, Firestorm 02:17, August 30, 2010 (UTC)

Speaking from a personal point of view... there's nothing more annoying than someone commenting of things needing something, but not actually helping out. Now I understand you believe you might be horrible at editing wiki code, but have you tried? We all had to learn, and many of us learned through examples and making plenty of mistakes. I know that I might have come off as an arse for saying that, but most times, and this is true, comments on talk pages go unnoticed anyway, unless they're highly edited articles. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 03:14, August 30, 2010 (UTC)

Everything you say is true. I have tried before, multiple times. I once tried getting images to line up in an organized order for a page, but I couldn't even make the image show up. It's true that I need to learn, and I'm willing to do so. I'm merely pointing out what I can until then. Don't worry, you're not coming off as rude or anything. I'm actually pleased that you said this. The talkpage thing is also true, though I find that some wikias tend to watch everything anyway.--Leo And his beloved lynx, Firestorm 13:14, August 30, 2010 (UTC)

Required Assistance

So I hear your the person to talk to when theres questions on WoWWiki (or any other admin, your name just came up). I have a concern with the Hunter races page. If you read my newly posted comment on the discussion tab on said page, you'll notice that I actually use the 'class races' pages in actual decision making of alts. My concern is that the page is pathetically and poorly done, further explained here (http://www.wowpedia.org/Talk:Hunter_races#Problem_I_see_with_the_page). You'll notice my comment under TeeSon5's old one.

My concern is that I'm not sure what templates/tags to put onto this page so that the general public is made aware of the issues on the page and somebody with the knowledge to update and fix it can actually be made aware of the problems. I personally lack the knowledge to update it myself, if I could I would.

I think that the page just lacks the components that all the other 'class races' pages have, and out of them all the Hunters page is the most pathetic. It needs more than "they're naturals and enjoy it". Thanks again for your help. Sorry for the bother. Htipiti (talk) 01:49, September 6, 2010 (UTC)

Don't be silly... no one can stalk a predator... =P As for what templates to use to get attention to the page, you seem to have found them, though I'm not sure the out of date one applies.. least not yet anyway. The best would be the lore stub, which I can see already has it. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 04:03, September 6, 2010 (UTC)

Medusoid Staff

I saw you revised  [Medusoid Staff], for some reason, it's listing 3147 feral attack power, has been ever since i made the page. Just thought i'd make you aware that this is not correct and needs removed. I can't seem to find it anywhere on the page, maybe a problem with the wiki? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aeonorion (talk · contr).

When you say it's not correct, what exactly are you saying? That the value is off, or the feral AP doesn't exist? -=- IconSmall DrakeAzure.gif Drazisil [t/c] 12:18, September 8, 2010 (UTC)
The Feral AP doesn't exist. Aeonorion (talk) 16:57, September 8, 2010 (UTC)
Are you seeing this item as a druid? Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:04, September 8, 2010 (UTC)
Nope, (3147 feral attack power) is just appearing on the left hand side even though it isn't entered on the edit page. Aeonorion (talk)
I believe the template is automatically calculating the feral attack power for all feral druid weapon types, just as the game does. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:05, September 9, 2010 (UTC)
Ahhh, is there anyway to remove this? As that doesn't appear on the tooltip in game. Aeonorion (talk) 01:03, September 9, 2010 (UTC)
It does for druids, which is why it automatically appears here, cause druids may want to know info that you may not care about. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 01:10, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

Cataclysm Kalimdor

Whats the reason for deleting the map? As far as I can see there is no violation as Azeroth and Outland articles feature similar categories. What is different about my contribution? (and I would like an answer thats not a link to the guidelines)

Regards, Ayzael (talk · contr)

We don't generally allow fanart in articles, there are few exceptions to this rule. The ones on Azeroth are very well done... I have been thinking of getting rid of File:World of warcraft.jpg for a while though, only reason it's stayed around for so long is due to having all three continents together with the new Northrend, rather than the classic skinny versions of it on the rest of the maps on the article. As for the Outland one, it's one of two maps on the page. One of the exceptions to the rule is when lack of content fan made images are acceptable... to a degree.
Now lets pick at your image... it's missing the Azuremyst/Bloodmyst Isles, a bunch of thrown in leaders from loading screens, ZF has the colored boss marks, the addition of Org... half of it is "undiscovered". And since the Kalimdor already has tons of images of it, fan stuff, unless REALLY really good should not be placed on it. As for deleting it, instead of just removing it this time, is simply because I see you continually re-adding it, if I had not. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:40, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for deleting those old images I uploaded. I couldn't figure out to get to the page where I could see where all the things I've uploaded are to do so myself, since those images were no longer used. I appreciate you doing that for me, thank you. Lolanda (talk) 22:47, September 17, 2010 (UTC)

Sir Zeliek

I was wondering where you would put the ex-paladin qualifications I posted on Sir Zeliek's page if you removed them.

Why did you remove them? I believe that part was relevant to the constant arguments that occur over him. Lordrayken (talk) 03:02, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

If they're qualifications for Ex-Paladins, I don't see why Sir Zeliek's article would be the right place to place it if you claim he is neither a death knight nor ex-paladin. If anything, you'd place it on the Ex-Paladin's article, with citations, cause I hope this is not just something you believe. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 03:05, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
Its the facts behind why Sir Zeliek is not an Ex-paladin. It's the blatant information right out of the game books for why he could not hold Paladin powers if he was, obviously, an ex-paladin. But you're right. The section I added was attempting to explain "why" he is a Paladin, and not a Death Knight or "ex-paladin", when in reality, it doesn't matter why. People can go look it up on their own, right? Lordrayken (talk) 03:12, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Roleplaying

Currently, the existing roleplaying guide is rather massive and cumbersome. I'll admit, that I'm guilty as charged in making it that way, but I'd like to break it up into smaller pages, sort of along these guidelines that I made (subject to change), and have everything tied under a template navigation box similar to that one. I'm just dropping this proposal here for your approval and any suggestions you might have. (Since your one of the Lords of the Wiki). Tanooki1432 (talk) 21:09, September 24, 2010 (UTC)

Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:14, September 24, 2010 (UTC)
Tanooki, you should make titles of the new pages all lower case (except for the first letter, of course), or they will be moved later. The fact that the page claims to be ripped from another website is not good either. I hope you fix that too.--SWM2448 21:26, September 24, 2010 (UTC)

When the only person actively writing on the page removes everything from it and then leaves it like that, it is seen as a request for deletion. So as to not leave blank articles, it was deleted. And yes there is a way to recover the page. I'll restore it's history, but it must continue to follow the guild policy. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! Template species

I already removed these because they are not sapient, they are just humanoid shaped animals that form packs, they have no buildings, no tools and behave like beasts in fact some are classified as beasts, which doesn't fit in a template of only sapient beings, and believe me I've been trough about this there are no points that suggests that they are sapient so i'm going to remove them from the template for sapient being because they aren't--Ashbear160 (talk) 11:34, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

I also want to use this opportunity to ask something do you think I should change Grell from Native to azeroth to Nature and eternals?
they are fey which is a type of nature spirit? but what do you think?--Ashbear160 (talk) 11:49, October 4, 2010 (UTC)
Grell can probably stay were they are since we really don't have too much info on them. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:03, October 4, 2010 (UTC)
Your reason for removing them makes no sense... lack of buildings, no tools and behave like beasts? They're a primitive society. Know what else is on that template that fits your description: Wildkin, fungal giants, bog beasts. The official description from the bestiary makes them sound sapient enough for me... and there's a reason some packs were classified as beasts. To fulfill the requirements of certain quests in a highly farmed area of its day. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 19:54, October 4, 2010 (UTC)
I'll concede with wildkin not being sapient beings(i think this was a leftover from the old old template before i attempted at changing it) but there are examples of bog beasts(in the wetlands), and fungal Giants(in sporeggar) that talk show concerns and offer quests they might just be one or two but at least they state a precedent for sapient beings of those race, the rockflayers have nothing to prove sapience, they form packs but there's also a bunch of non-sapient animals that also form packs(worgs and talbuk), they have humanoid shape but being humanoid is not condition for being sapient, they tame pet but this is a biological adaptation(trough pheromones) to control ravagers rather than a sapient skill, there is nothing sapient there, also the bestiaries are very loose examples of creature concept very early in development that don't push trough the game and in this case there's no proof of sapient rock flayers in the entire outlands as far as i remember(and nothing in the rockflayer article mentions sapience too so it's not a long stretch)
I'll remove wildkin and rockflayers--Ashbear160 (talk) 21:18, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

I made a section in which you can request additions on it's talk page. But as it's a highly used template it can't be receiving tons of edits. The main purpose of this template is to make it easier to link two or more (but no more than five - which is pushing it) icons and their page, now while it does have singular icons using the {{RaceIconExt}} template is just as effective. Feel free to make requests and an admin most likely a'noob or myself will add them in one edit. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! Cost and Honor Points

I could not get template:costitem to work for the new Honor Points. Maybe it was my usage, but I suspect it was because the Honor Point article does not have an item tool tip since it is non-item currency. Hence using template:currency since it let me specify the image to use. Did I miss something about how to use the costitem template? —MJBurrage(TC) 05:25, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

Ah, well then... guess we'll need to update the cost template or give the points a tooltip. Which will probably be updated after the move... don't I don't want to hinder the moving process. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 05:41, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

Bloody categories

Hi coobra, what's up. I'm sorry if I did something wrong creating the Blood elf quest giver category but I saw racial categories like draneis, goblins, humans, dwarves, gnomes, forsaken, night elves, orcs and tauren ones, that is all the other racial playable characters except blood elves. So, just for curiosity, why blood elves haven't their own category?. You also deleted the "quest giver" category from Lor'themar btw, doesn't he count as a quest giver even though he offers one?. --Killogwil (talk) 04:14, October 17, 2010 (UTC)

The simple answer is, the <racial> quest givers categories were being reverted back to how they once were, which was separate from each other. However, this process was halted till the move was completed. There were many of these types of categories, not just the main races... just so happens the main races were being done last. This also happened with the <racial> quest enders.. which was completed before the move began. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! Thanks a lot, I didn't see any discussion or warning about the changes so I just added a few NPCs in case I was doing something wrong to be easily reverted. New Sylvanas picture

Hello there, figured I should run this by one of the higher-ups like you first :P

They updated the Hallows end event model for Sylvanas, she appears using her usual form now. I took a screenshot, about on par with last year's one-

Anyway, I figured it would be best to update it. I'm a little inexperienced on the images side of things, so you can use my image if you'd prefer to do update it yourself! All hail the Sin'dorei. (talk) 18:38, October 19, 2010 (UTC)

Some race icon notes

Various notes about the race icons

Could you put a icon with theradras model as a earth princess icon? and turn Air lord into a air prince icon?
I hope you don't mind but i changed all the oozes to elemental section there's a quest that after study calls them elementals with relations to the old gods
I added a tol'vir subsection even if it has only one entry(for now)
I noticed the word enchanted in anubisath making so now i think they are examples of magical animations, but i'm not sure, what do you think, i don't want them to be a special case?

--Ashbear160 (talk) 10:49, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Why? Just use her icon if you need it. And Why?
What quest?
K... cept that Obsidian destroyers are not humanoids... so they should be placed back where they were. On second thought, I guess they can stay, if only to keep them together with the new icons soon to be uploaded.
They are magically animated statues, but they're fine where they are since they are still classified as Uncategoried.

H [56] ... and a Batch of Ooze This is also proven further in that one i deepholme where that guys that eats oozes turns into a elemental, i also prefer if i keep oozes together, and put mercury in the other because it fits with the fact they are other not-so-sure-that-are-elementals like murmur, i prefer to keep it organized like: 4 classical elements, conglomerate, nature, construct, ooze and other--Ashbear160 (talk) 23:33, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Other is fine for singular things, but if something contains more than one type of creature/icon, it should get it's own subsection... as for the deepholm quest of that guy eating mercury oozes doesn't prove anything for normal oozes... given that quests in Grizzly Hills and a few other places it could be possible that the oozes originate from Old Gods, but Bliz also uses the Oozes for many purposes, from blood, to spit, to oil and everything in between. As a whole, they are uncategorized. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 00:23, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Why the info part is supposed to be an note to that particular argument isn't it? anyway what to you think of a point system to see how probable is each race like dark green gives one point orange takes one point, sum it all up probable points, and then alliance points-horde points=positive it has more probability of being aliance negative has more probability of being horde?

what do you think?--Ashbear160 (talk) 21:37, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Ok then, how about a third option.. putting the additional info with the main topic, but making it gray and without a bullet point. Also keeping Legend so it shows what the gray means. Would you think this is acceptable? Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:59, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Rank tables!

O hais! Fancy seeing you here.

So I'm a bit confused and need of help. I'm going around seeing all these random spells with rank tables in them and, obviously, in the current live version (and future Cataclysm) ranks for all spells have been removed and now there is "one scaling spell". So, I read Help:Updating for Cataclysm to see if it could answer whether or not these ranks should be removed or not. It would seem to make sense to remove the rank tables from ability pages and the only thing I could find on the help page about it was to add {{Rfg-section}} to the section concerned, but I feel like that's not enough and it should be removed in its entirety from a page.

Thoughts? -- Typhoneus Talk Contribs 14:59, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikifying the Vote Kick page.

Hi,

New user! I saw the Vote Kick page had the Wikify template, and so made a few changes. Since you're the person that put the template there, could you take a quick look and see if it conforms to a higher standard? If not, what sort of thing needs to be done to improve it? Noob welcome message is broken. It may take a bot to fix it

Hi Cobra. Thanks for posting a welcome message on my (reclaimed) user page...

...assuming that was not done by a welcome bot. ;-)

I noticed that the welcome text actually includes references to WoWWiki, so it needs a fix. I hit the edit button, assuming I could surf over to a template and fix it myself, but unfortunately the entire text of the welcome message seems to have been imported onto my page.

(I am assuming it is a template that has been copied and pasted from WoWWiki, as I don't think it is the sort of mistake a person normally makes, if they write something like that by hand.)

I think what needs to happen is:

  • The welcome message needs to be updated, as soon as possible, so that new welcome posts say 'Wowpedia' instead of 'WoWWiki' and
  • Some sort of bot needs to be programmed to surf around User:Talk pages looking for welcome message text to edit.

I don't know where the welcome template would be. And my knowledge of bot programming is 100 percent theoretical.

Are you able to fix this (or pass it onto someone else who can fix it)?

(I am going to leave the page as is - mistakes included - so you can see what it looks like.)

David Shepheard (talk) 17:12, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

EDIT: It looks like this is an old welcome that you gave me before the move. Sorry for not noticing. I still think there is a problem that needs looking at, but it might not be the same problem I thought it was before. David Shepheard (talk) 17:35, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
Every page, including user and user talk pages were copied over... I don't believe we have a bot setup to replace the original welcome message for older users to the updated message that new users will be receiving. Question

You've probably been asked this a million times already, but is WoWWiki going to eventually shut down and redirect to WoWPedia? Sarvam (talk) 02:26, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

It will probably not shutdown... though... it may be removed as an official fansite in time. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 03:16, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Wikia will likely keep WoWWiki up until they can no longer profit from it. I doubt it will ever become a redirect. The fansite thing may be true (hopefully, as long as we gain the status).--SWM2448 03:36, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

'This user has reclaimed their user page'?

Any chance we could get a button, category or other thing to show that people have reclaimed their account, since the move? I think it would help people work out what users were real users, rather than shadow pages of WoWWiki users who are not here yet?

Also, is there any way to work out statistically, how many people have actually reclaimed their account? I'm thinking of setting up a page for Wowpedia on WikiIndex, and (from their point of view) it would probably be statistically interesting, to work out how large a faction has moved across (or how fast WoWWiki account holders are reclaiming their accounts here).

(WikiIndex is a wiki about other wikis, what they do, how big they are and how popular they are, so how many pages you have here, or how popular pages are - they call it a wikiFactor - is of interest to them.)

I haven't set up the WikiIndex page for this wiki yet, as I'm still trying to understand the implications of the fork. From one point of view, this is the same project that existed before it merged into Wikia. From another point of view it has a different name, so could be seen as a different project. I've left messages with a couple of WikiIndex admins to ask for their advise on how your new-but-old wiki should be presented over there. David Shepheard (talk) 13:25, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Hmm... maybe we could tag users that have a created userpage, have not reclaimed their account.. you should bring this up in the forums and see if we can get opinions or comments of doing what you've suggested by other users. But as of right now, we don't have plans for that. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:49, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Does the image exist or not?

The other day I was having a jolly fun time uploading images and editing articles. I guess the edits somewhat improved Wowpedia, but what do you know - the images were already uploaded! As SWM brought me the horrible news I realized it'd been nifty if there was a method to figure out whether an image is uploaded on Wowpedia or not. As you seem to be the guy handling images, could you tell me if such a feature exist, or in any case come up with a solution? WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 20:09, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Finding an image based on what it contains? I don't think there's a true way to search based on that, only way I know of is either by file names (which is why we try to get users to name images related to the content) or by looking through articles it could be on. SWM noticed the duplicates, but I go through soo many images it didn't occur to me, that I've seen them before... So I'm sure duplicates can be found all the time, sometimes unless the wiki tells you it's a duplicate, you may not realize it. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! Re: Images

Hi, this is in response to your message about my oversized images:

How can I fix them? To be perfectly honest, it's not that I need them big (on the contrary, on my page, they show up as only, to my belief, 200px width or 300px height, and as for File:Lohomoko.png, as only 400px), so I would be fine if you could reduce them. I'm not entirely sure with all of this layout (going from Monaco to the odd wikia look to this comfortable design is kinda throwing me off), so if you could help me, I would appreciate it, and if you reverted their sizes to a more... well... sizable option, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance. Strength and honor,

Categories

Hello! I have just a question: after the removal of many characters from wow, from their pages have been removed all the categories, like in this case. I have a doubt: in the case of Hydraxis have been removed the quest givers category (and that's fine, because he gives no more quests), the azshara NPCs category (also correct, he's no more present in azshara) and also the water elementals category. This one left me puzzled, because he's still a water elemental, even if he's no more present in-game. It would be like removing, for example, Oakwidow from the night elf category because she's not present in-game, or not? The same with Bale, and so on... --Forco (talk) 16:18, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Ironforge Airport map

You tagged File:Ironforge-Airport.jpg as being a policy violation, but left no explanation that I could find. What is the problem? —MJBurrage(TC) 18:29, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

While I know the place is easily accessible by flying mount and a specific flight path, I believe that detailing the path that players can take that involved exploiting the world environment is still against our policy. That is why it's marked as a possible violation and not just deleted. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 23:06, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
How is it an exploit if anyone can walk the path shown? No add-ons, macros, etc. are required, just jumping over obstacles. —MJBurrage(TC) 23:18, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
To even start the path one would have to exploit the starting point.... the rest of it may require no effort, but the beginning does. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 23:21, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
How is jumping forward, and then jumping forward again from where you landed an exploit? —MJBurrage(TC) 23:23, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

How do you do Warcraft 2 screenshots without crosshatching on minimap?

Hi, I saw your File:Beetle_Island.jpg (compare to one of my screenshots: img220.imageshack.us/img220/4884/dareregionofthechanneli.png and was wondering, how do you do Warcraft 2 screenshots of the minimap without the crosshatching/fine grid put over on the minimap of areas not currently visible to make them darker?

Even when I use the cheat (press enter type 'showpath' then enter again, that one) it just displays all of the map and stuff that isn't currently being 'seen' by one of your people is greyed out/crosshatched out on the minimap. So not sure how you took that screenshot? Thanks for any info :)

Might be good to post the info on the wiki for others so it's common knowledge, especially if you know how to do the same for the other games like Warcraft 1/3 etc! I have only just been trying them out cos I was curious about the background story behind world of warcraft --Kittymew (talk) 12:30, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Scout Galiaan and friends

I had put the Cataclysm shots in separate locations so the old ones would still be accessible. I can see the logic of what you did since the old version is in the file history, but it still seems more logical to have something we can link directly to and say "This is what the character looked like before Cataclysm." Not that the specifics of Named Guard #439's page matter in the long run, but still. --Bellocois (talk) 03:20, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

If it was a completely new model or completely different look, then I'd say yes, keep an old image to see, but when the only difference is they added a tabard... that's not enough to keep both files. The image history can be viewed if users want to see them without the tabard. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 03:23, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

While I'm here, you tagged some images for deletion that are linked from my user page as being part of my (extended) to-do list. I did upload a bunch recently that I didn't create pages for or link to as needing pages, but I plan to remedy that in the next 24 hours or so. --Bellocois (talk) 03:32, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Oh no no, that is not the speedy delete tag. That is simply an unused image marker. I use it to keep track of images that are currently not being used in articles. It's also another way for users to see if articles are needed, by seeing there's an image in need of an article. I would never delete those. You could probably put this in the main space under an appropriate title, whatever that may be. It has the potential to draw significant attention in the way Horde bias unintentionally did when I created it. Actually, now that I mention that page, it's probably best that you don't move it, let alone let the forums near it. (Kidding. Sort of! :-P) --Bellocois (talk) 08:05, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Heh.. well I started off wanting to do this during the beta... but after getting into finally doing it... I saw that they were still leaving many NPCs out (to be added later) and with the phasing, I wouldn't be able to just fly through zones looking for specific things.. I'd have to quest through the zones. But new toons come after older toons... so eventually I'll get back to this. I'd just prefer to being able to control it on my userspace, rather than letting it run rampant like Horde/Alliance bias =P. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! Heya, could you possibly move the article "Last Weeks Mammoth" to "Last Week's Mammoth"? I know it's only a minor typo, but I still find it somewhat annoying. Hey Coobra, the War against Deathwing article is constantly changed to include Malfurion as an Alliance commander, while he actually doesn't take part in the conflict similar to Lady Liadrin, Hamuul Runetotem, Varok Saurfang or even Thrall who are not listed. Could you please visit Talk:War against Deathwing and discuss. I really think he doesn't fit there, as he is more neutral as leader of Cenarion Circle (just like the 4 Horde commanders who simply do not take part in the war eventhough they're in the Horde). Should i change

"Among the tauren the Forsaken found a champion in Magatha Grimtotem, who argued in favor of the alliance between the two peoples and who continues to work closely with them. Magatha claims she merely wants to aid the Forsaken in their quest to redeem themselves, although there are many who believe her true motives to be something very different and much less innocent."

with newer source:

"The kind-hearted tauren of Thunder Bluff proved to be the most promising contact. Specifically, Archdruid Hamuul Runetotem saw the potential for redemption in Sylvanas’ people, even though he was fully aware of the Forsaken’s sinister nature. Thus, the tauren convinced Warchief Thrall, despite his misgivings, to forge an alliance of convenience between the Forsaken and the Horde."

Mountfooter changes

I would like to see a couple of changes to the Mountfooter subpages:

  1. Skeletal Horse mounts - currently Mountfooter/Skeletal lists the category as "skeletal", which is already stretched to include the ebon blade DK mount. It absolutely breaks when you include the raptor. There are too many Skeletal Horses specifically to break that category that way. I would see them moved to Unique for now.
  2. I would see all the sub-page mount links re-jiggered to remove the icons. The icons are only useful if there's a distinct difference, and for the most part there isn't one.

Rather than ask forgiveness, I thought I would ask your opinion on them first. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:32, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Digsite Map template

So... What is your plan for a) zones with more than one digsite in them? b) zones with overlapping digsites? With {{Digsite Map}} you've kinda put an end to any further digsite maps I'd put up. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 23:29, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Yea, I been slowly taking images of the maps with digsites and merging them together so only 1 map image with highlights would be needed. Then with that template each spot can be pointed to and placed on the zone article. It's slow going cause I haven't been focused on the profession. Once I get a complete zone with several digsite, the example will look better. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 23:33, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
If you are merging maps to get useful composites, would it help if I sent you my maps? (The which, I need point out, I carefully made while having but one dig site live per map...) I put cropped versions up as the "digsite map.jpg" files. Hmm... If you're making composites, you can probably just use relevant segments from the images I uploaded. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 00:40, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
I still have doubts about the utility of the project on zones that have overlapping dig sites (Dire Maul and Isilden (feralas), Auchindon (Nagrand), Ruins of Thaurissan (Burning Steppes)). --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 00:42, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
I thought about using your images to speed this along, but decided that would be probably just make it more difficult, since not only would have to match them up perfectly, but also might have to resize them to fit the resolution I use. I've found it just easier to take all the screenshots collected when I get the random digsite and merge the images with a couple of clicks and points. Though I might just try anyway since my randomness of digsites is constantly sending me to Felwood... Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 00:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
I may well have documented all of some zones' digsites individually, I do not know. If I have, you could ask for a full screenshot for calibration purposes. Would save you creating them all anew in that limited case. And ... you have much better image editing tools than I do. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 01:01, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

The petty thing is that i cannot remove the spaces between leaders and races in the infoboxes of the horde and the alliance, it wouldn't be a problem if it was in all of them, the problem is that some have spaces and other do not --Ashbear160 (talk) 01:01, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

I would make a forum post, under Warcraft Lore, rather than make an article... as for the name Dev Lore Questions would work fine. As for the infobox issue... don't think there is much you can do about that. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 02:11, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
I would prefer if it wasn't a forum page, because i want people to improve each other questions if possible, add points to the question or just rephrase it better--Ashbear160 (talk) 02:33, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Would probably get more attention if on the forum, than a randomly named article. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 02:48, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
It's just that in the forum, we can't change each other questions to improve them, in a article we can, and also to divide the discussion from the actual questions would be useful too--Ashbear160 (talk) 03:02, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

{{Vote}}? Though I do not see why someone could not just ask them all in the presumed next round.--SWM2448 20:53, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
Well in scrolls of lore it was done because some people prefer only to post the most popular questions

No matter... it's not a voting system, simply a way to see how many users/players have a strong desire to know. I believe I have finished the layout for it, see User:Coobra/CDev questions. However, I'm undecided on which route to go with for the stars...

  1. Template:Rating/doc - Displays 5 full silver stars before switching to gold.
  2. Template:Rating/dev/doc - Starts with one star from gray to gold, before going to star number 2.

Number 2 will allow for easy expansion should more than 20 like the question, but I'm not sure if the style of it is that great. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 22:58, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

They weren't answered yet? only when the questions gets answered is when they are removed, that's what's stated in the removing guidelines, also could anyone that has a wow account point people in the story forums to this article plz?--Ashbear160 (talk) 01:06, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
If Blizzard's CDev team is feeling strangely generous, then it may become necessary to overhaul the article to avoid redundancy with answers that we will have gotten. All unanswered questions could be copied at a later date, as Blizzard did not delete the questions from last time immediately, they just un-stickied them. I could post a link to it on the Story Forums, if someone else does not do it first. I still think that it is a bit early.--SWM2448 01:13, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Last time it took a month this time i think it will take longer (more questions and all that shazz), besides i'm not adding the entire gigantic list i made on scrolls of lore, just those that interest me, just adding a little clutter so the article doesn't look so nude, i also think i'm doing this a bit too early but there are already people doing round 3 pratice runs (at least one guy stated to be doing that.)--Ashbear160 (talk) 01:23, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Only posting your questions seems selfish. Also, clutter for the sake of clutter is stupid. I suppose I should post it on the Forum, if no one else has... unless it really is Rag's line. I may regret asking this, but why are there practice runs?--SWM2448 01:28, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I don't only post my questions, i post other questions the reason i post lots of mine is because, i was originally interested in them so i saved them, some of them i'm still interested, and i post them, some of them i'm not and i don't post them, also it's not just clutter for clutter sake, i'm genuinely interested in them.
why there are practice runs, i don't know, maybe to help people to not post stupid questions, it seems to be motivated by Omgdruid
also Rag's line? i don't get it?--Ashbear160 (talk) 01:37, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I took "i'm not adding the entire gigantic list i made on scrolls of lore, just those that interest me" as only posting questions that you have. If other people on Scrolls of Lore have other questions, then they should be saved too. If I misinterpreted, then I am sorry. I do not know about any "practice runs" but I will still post it anyway. "Rag's line" refers to Ragnaros yelling "TOO SOON!" It was a meme before there were mountains to remember people from! I dislike explaining jokes. EDIT: There I posted it (unless Blizzard takes it down). Now stop bugging me. EDIT (again): Hmmm... Omgdruid says that you stole his idea... what am I to make of that?--SWM2448 04:56, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

I'd prefer the icon making just stay with a very few amount of users. Just so the quality and characteristics match between them. IconSmall Worgen Icons

About IconSmall Worgen Male.gif [2] and IconSmall Worgen Female.gif [3], i really don't get why you reverted my uploads. ALL the other playable races IconSmall images (IconSmall Gnome Male.gif and [4], IconSmall Draenei Female.gif and [5], etc) are *exactly* the same, both border and image. Why can't we use the official images for worgens (and goblins) too? < Download > Eraclito ( TalkEdits ) 16:29, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

As I stated in the revert, you should check before blindly changing files.... All racial icons are placed on Wowpedia:List of creature icons. And as with the blood elves and goblins, worgen too have their place. They were reverted because you caused both file locations to be "official" icons, rather than how it was setup. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 22:50, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
Okay, then: why is it the setup? I mean, we have icons matching all the playable races *except* worgen and goblin ones. For them, there're _2.gif like files. Why don't we delete the custom ones and only use the official ones, since they exist?
Anyway, thanks for updating my page :) But wasn't for my user page the reason i 'blindly changed' a custom icon used in templates with the official icon from battle.net. I tried to update something i though was missed by other people (like i recently did for some talents, abilities, other icons). But i feel just discouraged to help, if a change is considered vandalism without even a talk. < Download > Eraclito ( TalkEdits ) 00:56, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
Don't for discouraged, help is already greatly welcomed. The change you made was never considered vandalism just an overlook of what already existed. I can't speak for everyone, but I find many of the "official icons", especially the worgen ones, not that good. And what it really came down to was that icons that were being used first or the longest took the main name while newer ones took an alternate name. It's just keeping things constant as well and also very easy to switch between them as well:
Now... if you want to open a discussion about having the "official icons" moved to the main file name and have the other icons moved to an alternate name (which includes the worgen, blood elves, and goblin), then please open a discussion or maybe even open a vote on which icons would be preferred to have on the main slot. Things are always up for change. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 02:02, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
As for my reason of wanting the "official" icons pushed to the side simply because of their background... every icon we have uses a black background and theirs uses a blue for worgen and red for goblin. It really throws things off. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 02:04, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

4.0.1

How are those pages datamined if the patch is on PTR? I am confused. Hallowseve15 (talk) 02:33, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

It's 4.1.0, and a patch being on the PTR doesn't mean everything being introduced in that patch has been released. If you do not have a source for things, there's nothing I can do. The same goes with your addition to Ragnaros.. MMO-Champion datamines this info and new models, but the new rag has not been seen and that falls under DNP. I believe we've told you this before many times. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 02:48, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

To what, specifically?--SWM2448 19:20, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
the 2 Molten giant articles is it supposed to be two articles, one about mob+background and another on the background or one mob article and one background article.
Also the thornweaver and quillboar thronweaver should be merged and the goblin tinker(not the unit article) and the tinker article should also be merged.--Ashbear160 (talk) 20:19, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
The two molten giant articles are two articles: Molten giant and Molten Giant. The two thornweaver lore pages should probably be merged, but I am not sure to what name. About the tinkers, not all tinkers are goblins, and goblins are often their own sort of tinker.--SWM2448 20:30, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
the quillboar thornweaver article should be under Thornweaver races section in the thornweaver article i think.
The Tinker class has a section for Tinker races, and it has only gnome in it, goblin tinker should be put under there.

--Ashbear160 (talk) 20:50, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Do you have any problems if i merge those two?--Ashbear160 (talk) 13:42, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Which two? You mentioned more than two pages. The thornweaver pages could be merged, I guess, but I might need to clean the merged page later. I appreciate your enthusiasm.--SWM2448 19:04, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
I meant merge both the thornweaver with the quilboar thornweaver, and the tinker with goblin tinker.--Ashbear160 (talk) 19:14, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Merged the articles, i'm going to put the other with a delete tag, and the goblin tinker article contains irrelevant and repeated information which makes me think this information is copied from the source, i didn't pass the languages the quillboar thornweaver speaks because i think that information is irrelevat.--Ashbear160 (talk) 19:22, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
There is nothing wrong with leaving things as redirects. There is nothing wrong with coping information from sources, barring fair use issues, as that means that it is accurate.--SWM2448 19:31, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

I think the Thornweaver article was slightly better written than the quilboar one, also i don't think the language information is relevant--Ashbear160 (talk) 19:47, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
The one who reverted it was me because 1) there's only one type of thornweaver 2) the section was a duplicate of the information that already was in the article. --g0urra[T҂C] 19:48, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
I told you to read our policies and guidelines. Do it. You know you want to. All I did to the quilboar article was remove the delete tag that you put, as it was the wrong one.--SWM2448 19:55, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
There are too many policies and guidelines, this is the sole reason why i don't bother to read them unless someone points me there, and what i'm saying is that Thornweaver article was slightly better written than the Quillboar thornweaver article.--Ashbear160 (talk) 21:07, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Either, though I frown more on the latter. It is your talk page. It is sort of ironic that you are uninvolved.--SWM2448 04:01, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Besides the thornweaver articles, I see no reason for the others to be merged... though goblin tinker is a small article, it could be merged into tinker with a redirect. I'll have no issue with that. But a no for the molten giant articles. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 04:10, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
I'm not asking the molten giant articles to be merged, trough one should probably be moved to Molten giant(mob), i had a confusion, because one was supposed to be mob and another background, but the mob article i rmebered it to have lot of background i must have remembered it wrong, the thing with the rumbling exile, is because the background article has very little information that could be merged with the mob article, that's all.--Ashbear160 (talk) 17:19, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
I merged the tinker articles, i don't know how to turn the goblin tinker article into a redirect.--Ashbear160 (talk) 17:23, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
I should've sayed this but what i want is to make RPG information more accessible, it's very hard to find it when most of it, is separated from the rest of the content, when many connections can be made.--Ashbear160 (talk) 18:58, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
There's {{WoW RPG classes}} and {{Warcraft RPG classes}} already, what else do you need? --g0urra[T҂C] 18:59, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
It's not about classes, those two classes were just 2 good examples i found that conventionally had classes, two examples that i also found was Acid bullet and Drill crawler which i linked to the dark iron clan article, just making these articles more accessible or transfer the information to the appropriate place--Ashbear160 (talk) 19:22, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Joren Ironstock

Is there a specific guideline other than the boilerplates that I'm supposed to follow here? I am a new contributer, and I'm just learning all the guidelines. Is there a reason not to include the quest objective in a literate way under the quest header for NPCs? And sorry for the multiple edit updates; I am new, as mentioned, and will get better over time. If there is a problem with the way I'm expanding stubs please let me know, I wouldn't want to anger imposing members of the community who know all about account hacking and whatnot :) Thanks Thewalrus (talk) 07:19, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Other than our normal Wowpedia:Guidelines, Wowpedia:Policies, and using the boilerplate layout just look to similar articles for examples. Though I would use newer articles for the best examples on how we'd like articles to start appearing, older articles will tend to look as they were wanted years ago. Feel free to experiment in sandboxes as well, these are generally not monitored and allow users to freely try things without interfering with existing articles and preventing edit errors (if another user starts to edit the same article). Welcome to wowpedia. =) Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 05:07, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Racial organization templates

Do you have anymore thoughts on this? I feel it just comes down to what Lon-ami and Ashbear160 want to enforce. Also, do you believe that this is a bit extreme? It has been a pet peeve of mine for a while (pre-Rolandius even) that all mob prefixes and suffixes do not need pages, which may happen, and some people (myself, for now, not included) are not too crazy about navboxes.--SWM2448 20:05, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Hmm... it does seem to be getting excessive, cause not everything needs to be in the navbox... but it's like you said in the forum post, things get messy over periods of time. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:04, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Specificly Just tribes and entirely racial groups i think those at least are needed--Ashbear160 (talk) 21:06, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Curbing creativity is (admittedly) against the wiki spirit, but I am just trying to stop problems in advance. You do not have to clean up what was never made a mess in the first place. Is planning ahead so bad? Though, I may not be good at predicting things...--SWM2448 21:08, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
No, planning ahead is very nice... but sometimes, things that users want to have done will end up getting done eventually, if not by them by others that want it as well. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:13, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
I remember telling Rolandius "it is easier to shrug off a trickle than a flood." A group of less prolific editors may get away with semi-controversial things more, especially over a long period of time, while prolific editors and their flaws will be singled out more. It just happens. I am uncertain of the cruelty involved. However, I ask you: what do the users want to have done?--SWM2448 21:21, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
i don't know if i want or not what you said "that all mob prefixes and suffixes do not need pages", in some cases i don't like it others i do, i only put them in the navboxes because they are already there in the list--Ashbear160 (talk) 21:23, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
I am not sure what you are saying. If you don't know if you want something or not, why pursue it with such gusto and enthusiasm?--SWM2448 21:44, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Because they are already in the list.--Ashbear160 (talk) 21:48, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Object or NPC?

re Dead Iron Giant... You interact with it as an object, regardless that it represents what would have been a mobile entity. Wherein lies the difference between NPC and object? Changing a image's file name?

Hullo there Coobra, may I ask how to change the file name of an image uploaded on Wowpedia?

Also, concerning the unofficial artwork I uploaded a while ago, is is possible to use it as long as it is properly described as "unofficial" on the articles it is used on? I understand why it is preferred to use official artwork rather than fanmade, but it's a shame those images wont be used anywhere - especially since they were made by an artist who's also been doing TCG art. WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 12:33, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Oh, btw, it seems SeedsOfTheLasherByGenzoman.jpg is actually used for a card in the TCG (http://www.wowtcgdb.com/images/large/seeds_of_the_lashers.jpg), so there's no need to delete it. WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 16:03, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
To request an image rename use the {{move}} template on the file and specify what name you'd like to have as the first parameter. Example: Name changed.jpg leaving out the File:. And I agree, I'd love to use those artworks, for the exact reasons you stated. But if we start making exceptions to the rule, we'll have more artists wanting their unofficial work displayed here... though if the exception is artists who already do a major contribution to Blizzard products, I guess that could be okay. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:06, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Hmm, oke, I thought normal users could change file names in a similar manner to changing article names. In any case, now there's something else I'm wondering. Is it possible to change a file's file type when uploading a new version of it? Such as changing and old .gif into a new .jpg? WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 21:33, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Also, I'd like your personal opinion about something. I found the "complete" image of Kurdran TCG.jpg on http://www.boros-szikszai.com/pictures/64/390_pic.jpg, but now I'm unsure whether to replace the old version on Wowpedia with it or not. Naturally, the larger version is more detailed and stuff, but the old version seems better for a "profile image" which it is used for on Kurdran Wildhammer's article. What do you think? WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 23:29, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Yea, I'm just glad images can be moved now, a few years ago, we didn't have that option. So to rename we had to re-upload. As for changing the file type, that's not possible. Just upload the new one, and mark the old one for deletion. As for the Kurdran question. I see upload full version under a different name and add it to the page, but leave the current one as it is, cause you're correct to think of that one as the profile image. Hey Coobra i was wondering if you could lock the Alliance page and clean it up like you are doing for the Horde Page. I already plan to lock and clean the Alliance as well... though I'll admit, I haven't been on the Alliance side since Burning Crusade, and only leveled my Alliance toon in late Wrath to just see the storyline on that side. Titan constructs

I have been thinking about this for a while. What is your plan?--SWM2448 21:00, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Oh, I have no plan... Just saw that (at least the Uldum ones) have been confirmed by the Encounter Journal that they are indeed constructs and not Titans, that I would create a "creature" category for them.... since they aren't really stone keepers or watchers..... although they could be just new models /shrug. This category will at least keep them all together. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:07, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
So the category is just for the five Uldum bosses?--SWM2448 21:12, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
We don't have confirmation of the other ones until the Encounter Journal is completed. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:14, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Well you made "Stone guardians" a subcategory of "Titan constructs" (where we can shove confirmed constructs with no race" name) so... what other categories should be under "Titan constructs"? What is a stone guardian anyway?--SWM2448 21:41, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Hmm, I would limit exactly what categories are placed there... while creatures such as the tol'vir were constructs, they have "evolved" from being something simply programmed to do a particular task. I'm not even sure what a stone guardian is... but it was the parent category of stone keepers so I threw it in. But yea.. mostly anything constructed by titans which have no similar category could be thrown in there. Just to at least keep track of them. Should we add algalon, he fits your description.--Ashbear160 (talk) 13:43, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

I thought when Algalon was saying this
"Perhaps it is your imperfection that which grants you free will. That allows you to persevere against cosmically calculated odds. You prevailed where the Titans' own perfect creations have failed."
Was referring to himself.--Ashbear160 (talk) 21:28, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Possibly... though he was most likely referring to the vrykul, earthern, the guardians of Ulduar (most likely them). Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:30, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Hello... it's a wiki, I'll answer your question perhaps when I'm paying attention to the site and not engaged with my personal life. Thank you.
To answer your question, it means the template is used a very many pages... edit warring on a high use template is frowned upon... course edit warring in general is frowned upon. You think something needs changing, discuss it. Don't change it to how you want and have edit wars over it without a discussion taking place and coming to a conclusion. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 00:15, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

For example: start a discussion as you said. Im opened to talk. Also: edit wars was started by user:Gourra from this changes - [6], [7]. Plz remind him that it is a bad manner to start edit wars. As administrator you can do this. Thank you. --Askarmuk (talk) 11:52, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

I've noticed that some articles use the "Burning Crusade Bestiary" as a lore source. This is - if you don't know (which I find unlikely anyway) - a former site on the official WoW website which describes different creatures introduced in TBC. The info has however been removed (possibly as a result of their new layout) and the site is now your everyday "buy it!" site.

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/burningcrusade/townhall/bestiary.html

The info can still be found other places. Particularly, this site seems to be somewhat a mirror of it. I was planning to use the info to "revive" the official article on Wowpedia, but it turns out such an article already previously existed. Seems the user named "Kirkburn" deleted it because it was "old news". Still, I think Wowpedia should "protect" its sources as much as quoting them. What is your opinion? WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 17:50, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

To which official article do you refer to? Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:08, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah i've have alo been having problems with old sources, specifically naga birth and anubisath, i had to use dead links as a source and that's annoying--Ashbear160 (talk) 20:37, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
It's easy to find references from the bestiary on Wowpedia articles. Simply browse the creatures and check if their respective articles are using it as a source. Direct quotation = as witten on the official site. Indirect quotation = somewhat altered.
Fel orc: The "Official site info"-sections contains a direct quotation.
Ethereal: The first six lines is a direct quotation.
Fleshbeast: The "Description"-section is a direct quotation.
Forest troll: The first five lines (complete introduction) is a direct quotation.
Fungal giant: The first line is an indirect quotation. The second and third lines are direct ones.
Gronn: The first three lines are indirect quotations.
Naaru: The history-section (atm lacking references) are using indirect quotations in line three, five, six and seven.
Ogre lord: The "Outland ogre lords"-sub section under the "Background"-section is a direct quotation.
Rock flayer: The first seven lines is a direct quotation.
Spore bat: The first four lines is a direct quotation.
Spore walker: The "Background"-section is a direct quotation.
Warp stalker: The first and second line are indirect quotations.
Several (possibly all) of the creatures' articles also use the images depicting the races in the original info. You can find some of them combined with it here and here.
WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 21:30, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
If you're still unsure about the legitimacy of the official article - as far as I know, it acted as a teaser, presenting the new models and lore which Blizzard implemented in the Burning Crusade. They created a "Wrath of the Lich King Bestiary" too, probably also a Cataclysm one. WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 21:39, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh, you mean all the individual racial articles, when you said "planning to use the info to "revive" the official article on Wowpedia" and ""Kirkburn" deleted it because it was "old news"", I thought you meant an actual article on the BC bestiary. Yes that's fine to update the links, though I'm not sure about changing their descriptions back to what it was, since its expanded since then and some completely changed. Four words: Internet Archive Wayback Machine. --g0urra[T҂C] 21:41, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Thx Gourra, now I can browse the web as MacGyver did! But, Coobra, what I'm trying to say is not that I want to "revert" all the individual race's articles - I want to implement one of Wowpedia's sources directly into Wowpedia, as an article. Why? Because Blizzard destroyed their own article! And Kirkburn destroyed the article I want as well - here is the remains of it! So, here's my plan: we use the info on the "official mirror article" found on this site I found to make an article called "The Burning Crusade Bestiary" on Wowpedia. This must be protected, other info than the original info must NOT be added, and the original info must NOT be removed or altered. Then, we can use that article as a source for other articles, such as the races I've listed, in place for the now-removed official info which Blizzard removed! WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 21:50, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
On second though, think I'll use Gourra's time machine instead (as source of the new article), then I can have the images as well. This'll be glorious. WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 21:55, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
We cannot restore the deleted article as it was deleted before the move to Wowpedia. Either you'd have to ask someone on WoWWiki to get it for you, or make it from scratch. --g0urra[T҂C] 21:58, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
I was already planning on doing that. With the power of hope and copy-paste it'll be fixed in no time. WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 22:04, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Hopefully decency wins out over politics. Speaking of articles-as-sources, {{Source-article}} has a niche but is never used. I think it or a template like it could see more use. Also, I there are multiple versions of some race descriptions, like the gronn and the naaru. The Wayback machine should have them all, but it may not.--SWM2448 01:56, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Now if we could find things for other examples like this one.--Ashbear160 (talk) 14:24, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for helping with The Wrath of the Lich King Bestiary, I've entered the info now! Turns out the problem was that the filter for some reason didn't accept the references for the last three races never being implemented. That's pretty ironic, don't you think? An article being a source, not accepting sources. I guess it's also somewhat ironical that you're the one who helped solve the problem although I was planning to give you a break from my nagging... again, thanks! WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 20:54, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Should Bestiary be remade (hopefully keeping the history notes) using this link? I know we have at least some of the animated images uploaded somewhere already.--SWM2448 22:09, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
I was already thinking of it. I managed to find a similar (the same?) source by putting http://eu.blizzard.com/en/wow/townhall/beastiary/dragonspawn.html into Gourra's time machine. WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 15:49, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

In my opinion it's very important to be able to corroborate information ,but you're not asking me, so i'm just saying due to try sourcing the Old Gods' forces, i had to use lot of references to dead links because i couldn't check the original information and it was the only source the article gave, so i had to do some blind-sourcing, by trusting the dead sources posted on Wowpedia.--Ashbear160 (talk) 19:15, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
I didn't know about the Wayback Machine, so finding replacements is not that big a deal... though since not everyone knows about the wayback machine, we should probably link to it as a way to check old internet sources on WP:EL. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 00:47, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Shouldn't we transfer all of the dead links into source articles at least?--Ashbear160 (talk) 01:11, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Saying that making all dead links into source articles is the minimum that we should do is a bit much, but making them anyway is fine, as long as they are clean and accurate.--SWM2448 04:24, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

More likely, they recolored the concept art to see what it might look like in different seasons, which would make both correct. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 22:01, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Hmmm. According to the site where I found it (here), the "spring version" was featured in the art book in the Collector’s Edition of Wrath of the Lich King, available on 11.13.08. The "autumn version" was uploaded in 2007, which - as I see it - makes the spring version the newer one. I'll upload it, but I don't think the autumn one has to be deleted. Dark T Zeratul is probably correct. WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 22:29, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Would like to interview you

Hi Coobra,

I’m continuing my research (on WoWWiki and WoWPedia) this summer and hope to interview several of the core contributors about their experiences. Would you be available at some point this summer for an interview?

I also wanted to share an article of mine about WoWWiki that was recently published; you can find it on the front page of my website (linked to from my faculty page, below; happy to send you pdf, if you like). For the most part it talks about the writing processes of the community and how members work well together because of shared attitudes and beliefs about writing on a wiki. If you have any questions or feedback, I’d love to hear it.

Thanks for considering this. If you're interested in participating, you can contact me here via email <tinyurl [dot] com/5ug7gqq>. Dakhma (talk) 14:23, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

  • ForTheHordeByGenzoman.jpg - same as above.
  • Primal Taming TCG.jpg - I'm a bit unsure about this. Turns out it's not quite as similar to the card which I first though. You can decide whether it's to stay on Wowpedia or not.

You posted a note on the page for the short story, Cut Short, saying "The story takes place after Operation: Gnomeregan and before the new gnome starting experience.", but do we have any confirmation for this. Grell Dilemma

So how are we going to solve this? we've got firekin which are definitely not demons and are elementals, Flamekin which are demon but act more like elementals, Sprites and Grell which are both demon and Humanoid, my opinion screw gameplay mechanics because they are not lore, and they are often wrong, but we need to make this at least make some sense.--Ashbear160 (talk) 20:58, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Only problem is, we have no lore on these Flame Imps or Firekin. The only thing we have is N [85 Daily] Wisp Away saying "fire elementals are pouring out of portals" and the Firekin come out of the portal. Everything we once considered lore about the Grell came from RPGs, the same is true of the Sprites. Only other solution is to label them fire elementals, I don't want to do that. About fel stalker and Felhound

Hello again, and thanks for contributing to the discussion.

There is some clarification that should be done on both articles if they are actually different creatures. The Fel stalker article makes various references to «felhound». In Reign of Chaos, the WarCraft III unit was named Felhound, and then Fel Stalker in The Frozen Throne. In my opinion, we should merge both articles and mention the RPG Books distinction that you mentioned.

Although, Fel Ravagers also did appear in WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne as a lvl7 creep with the Devour Magic and Black Arrow abilities.

  • Warcraft III had Felhounds (called hellhounds by Kel'Thuzad).
  • The Frozen Throne had Fel Beasts, Fel Stalkers, and Fel Ravagers (with Fel Demons as the greater creature type per Battle.net).
  • Manual of Monsters (non-canon) had Fel Stalkers and Fel Hunters (with Fel Stalkers as the greater creature type).
  • Monster Guide (non-canon) had Felhounds, Felstalkers, and Fel Ravagers (with Felhounds as the greater creature type).
  • The Well of Eternity calls them felbeasts (consistently, as far as I can tell).
  • WoW calls them a bunch of things, the warlock one being a Felhunter.

Could you help me with this, somehow i can't find a way to fix anything when using this type of table, and you seem to be able too. User:Ashbear160/Notable leaders Alliance
The other is what you think if i create a iron army faction article(i loath when a faction is called after it's leader), i have at least a source that calls it that, and i dislike the fact that the iron dwarf article seems to be the "dumping ground" for information on this faction--Ashbear160 (talk) 20:24, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
Yea, messing with that table was a pain in the arse, it did not want to work cooperate with me too much. It would seem appropriate to put all information about the iron dwarves on the same page, as it's a small article as is and probably every iron dwarf is of the same faction. Since they were created for that purpose. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 17:26, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
But the Iron army is not composed of iron dwarves solely, well at least according to this:
"The iron armies are led by three fearsome generals, each representing a different race. These leaders are known as Stormcaller Brundir, Runemaster Molgeim, and Steelbreaker."
Besides that's not my biggest problem my problem is putting in the faction section a faction called "Loken" when we have the name of Iron Army--Ashbear160 (talk) 02:30, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
I'l shift some stuff around and i'll see how i put it in the alliance page--Ashbear160 (talk) 02:37, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Command Structures

Hello Coobra, I was wondering what you opinion was on the command structures on the Scourge and Burning Legion pages was. I find they just take of space, and alot at that not to mention they are outdated. If you wish to keep them I would update them myself but I think we should delete them entirely or at least make a separate page for them. I agree with this... command structure articles would be best.--Ashbear160 (talk) 17:09, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
It seems that many entries in the command structure could be based on speculation, but yea, they do take up a lot of room. I'm not for just removing all the information. I'm also not opposed to it being moved to an article of it's own and linked to from their appropriate pages. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! Brann Bronzebeard journal

Do to the journal in the new magazine i have two questions/propositions to ask

The first is that dragons are titanic creations maybe i should change them from the template of azeroth native to titanic creations(what do you think?)

The second involved dryads, in the journal the dryad race is divided into 2 subraces frost and forest, which lead me to think that the Frost nymphs are just frost dryads and that regular nymphs are just a updated model for the normal forest dryads(again what do you think?).--Ashbear160 (talk) 23:48, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

I haven't seen the new magazine, but I thought dragons were native to the world... at least protodragons were. As for the dryad/nymphs, it seems likely. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 23:58, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Protodragons are natives, but dragons are titanic creations (since protodragons are also non-sapient they aren't going on the template anyway), it's like this
Titan->Dragon<-Proto-dragon
So i tend to incline that they are titanic creations if you want i can give you a scan of the pages--Ashbear160 (talk) 00:48, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

It has been assumed for a while, based on the Galakrond-Aspect relationship, that the titans made proto-dragons into dragons. I really try to avoid those templates, except for minor fractal errors. The dryad thing makes sense, but "dryads" splitting into "forest" and "frost" really does not tell us much. Forest and frost what? Nymphs? Dryads?--SWM2448 02:06, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
I think we could safely move them to titanic creations since all know sapient examples are also derived from titanic creation
It splits like the dwarves, dwarf->frost=frost dwarf, so dryad->frost=frost dryad, i think we can safely assume that nymph is a secondary name for dryad--Ashbear160 (talk) 02:49, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
That's possible... however, like earthern to troggs and then to kobold, all three are now unique races. So it's possible two types of nymphs came from dryads, the frosty ones of northrend and the southern forest ones. This is more likely than just another name for dryads I believe. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:42, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
Do we ever hear the term nymph ingame or just the model/skin?--Ashbear160 (talk) 22:26, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
The ones in Howling Fjord are named Chill Nymph and Frost Nymph and the quest A [70] The Enigmatic Frost Nymphs. They are mentioned in H [71] The Frozen Glade with their racial term. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 22:28, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
I actually meant the regular nymphs(forest ones) if there was ever a reference of them being nymphs or just regular dryads?, but i've checked both these quests, the alliance questgiver outright calls them dryads, and the second one is a taunka who speaks of the frost nymphs in a almost folklorish way, blizzard outrights says in the article that dryads are divided into forest and frost dryads, and since we never heard of frost dryads i think we can safely assume that the frost nymphs are indeed frost dryads.--Ashbear160 (talk) 22:39, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
Ah, well, like I said I haven't seen the article.. but if that's what they called them, then it's possible I suppose... Would explain why the Unbound Dryads are named dryad rather than nymph since they're most likely changed frost nymphs. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 01:57, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Hum i posted the pages above it's the 5th one--Ashbear160 (talk) 02:19, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Has the term "frost dryad" actually appeared anywhere?--SWM2448 03:07, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Thought you meant in some written article, I've seen the diagrams you posted, but Blizz doesn't actually call them frost or forest dyrads... just frost and forest. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 03:29, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
With a arrow coming from "Dryad" to them much like in dwarf section, where they don't say dark dwarf or dark iron dwarf, they have a arrow coming from "Dwarf" pointing to "Dark", "Mountain", "Hill" and "Frost" even trough we usually call them by different names blizzard calls them "Dark/Mountain/Hill/Frost dwarf" Mountain", i still say they are Frost dryads, with Frost nymphs being a secondary name, like gilgoblins are also called gilblins, or the iron armies are also called the iron legions.--Ashbear160 (talk) 12:37, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Or dragons which are also listed as their colour without the repetition of stating they are dragons ex: Dragon->Green and we know they are Green dragons.
Ps: you still haven't explained where the name for regular nymph comes from(besides model name).--Ashbear160 (talk) 12:38, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
I think it came about with the thought that frost nymphs minus the frost are just nymphs. I disagree with that one point, and have never seen proof.--SWM2448 19:09, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Originally i would've disagreed with you, altrough i've never seen proof of them being named that point but we're left in the black, but with this new information it shows clearly that the dryad is divided into 2 races frost and forest with no mentioning of the word nymph in them, which is why i concluded they are a secondary name for them.--Ashbear160 (talk) 20:13, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Well, nymphs once had a source from RPGs stating:
they, unlike the dryads, prospered choosing to avoid dangers like the Scourge simply moving on to new areas when the plague came close, but had little concept that there will not always be another land with greener pastures just over the next horizon.
Which is likely why they made their appearance in WotLK to ask for help, since they've finally run out of areas to run to. Now, where frost nymphs actually have a name source, you're correct that nymph does not... even the nymphs/dryads in Mount Hyjal gave no indication of what they were any in quest or speech and we just assumed what they were, given previous models. Then the magazine came out... so I suppose the question is: do the dryads exist as a separate race in which two others formed from (the frost nymphs and forest nymphs) or are the dryads themselves two types of races (forest dryads and frost dryads)?
Blizz tends to name creatures first encountered in the game after what they are, this has been proven time and time again... so even though dryads and nymphs are supposedly two separate races, they might not actually be as separate as once believed... Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 22:25, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
If we go by other examples in the article(race first then sub-race, like in dragon, dwarf and giants) there are 2 types of dryads frost and forest, and if it wasn't like this that would mean that blizzard would've added a race in the magazine that doesn't exist(frost dryad), which would be incredibly stupid of blizzard.
We also have indication that the frost nymphs are dryads in the quests in wotlk
And we have examples of races called by various names(gilblin and gilgoblin)
I still have the same conclusion, that nymph is a secondary name for dryad--Ashbear160 (talk) 22:42, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Frost nymphs are also called dryads. This is true. This implied that they were a type of dryad, and the magazine confirms this. What is a guess is everything else.--SWM2448 22:45, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

Arbitrary break

So... should we have two race pages (dryad and frost nymph) or three (dryad, frost nymph, and forest nymph)? Names can be changed later down the road, but at this point, should we consider the forest nymph and dryad one and the same? and simply jot it down as a new model for dryads, because they like to introduce new models of same creatures. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 22:53, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

We could have 3, one for the general dryad race, and two for the subraces, frost dryad and forest dryad, i don't care if the name even stays the same as long it's in the all 3 articles that frost nymphs are also known as frost dryads, and the other as forest dryad.--Ashbear160 (talk) 23:05, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
I think it should be noted that they might be called that.--SWM2448 00:20, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Heh, I occasionally do that after updating images under the same file name. I use this step to skip the waiting period that could take a little while for the image to correct itself. When it comes to templates that keep images a specific size, I either change the file name or just wait for it to change on its own. For example on File:Eastmoon Ruins.jpg the image to me if of the old version, while the one on the page is correct due to the size difference made... though I suppose clearing my cache would work too. I haven't seen them in lists, there might be an occasional list that someone added critters (I don't know), but the majority of the lists don't have them. C2C: quest givers

Those particular categories were to be split between the race and quest givers categories. The one thing about the C2C template is that it doesn't contain a split suggestion, only "this is incorrect and should go here instead" suggestion... I probably should have used the {{split}} template. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:20, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Quest list project and Dun Morogh quest list

Hello,

I saw you just reverted the Dun Morogh quests edits I made and deleted the Dun Morogh quests (old) page I created. When I made the edits and created the page, I did so because I saw the "outdated" template and a new quests table stub on Dun Morogh quests and didn't realize there was a new storyline page (Dun Morogh storyline). Related to this, I have two questions:

  1. Is the list-based "storyline" the format for post-Cataclysm content? Has the Wowpedia:Quest list project table format been abandoned?
  2. Should the Dun Morogh quests page have the stub table of post-Cataclysm quests and the line "The following quests can be found in Pre-Cataclysm Dun Morogh:" removed and the "Removed from game" template added (ala Elwynn Forest quests)?

Thanks! JeffreyBarke (talk) 03:28, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Yes, the new naming format for post cataclysm has become storyline, rather than quests. Yes the old pages should have {{Removed}} (I did forget to add that didn't I). However, there's no need to point to the old articles if you don't want to, it's not a priority. As for the table format project, I do believe it's been abandoned for a long time, so the storyline is using a whole different format. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! Thanks. I'm new to both WoW and Wowpedia and didn't realize the quest list project was dead. I picked it up from the "Things to do" section on the community portal; it wasn't apparent to me that the project was no longer active until tonight, when I looked at the talk page after my edits were reverted. Maybe it should be removed from the community portal? JeffreyBarke (talk) 04:02, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Aye... many old projects that should be removed from there, thanks for reminding me. =) Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 04:13, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Projects in general are dead, as is community collaboration in general, and (if I really want to get cynical) the "community" aspect in general. Definitely projects at least. They are an abandoned system, abandoned in favor of one user doing whatever.--SWM2448 05:17, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Battle for the Lost Isles

Me and a few others thought it would be a good idea to record the events on the Lost Isles. I made a page for it here User:MoneygruberTheGoblin/Battle of the Lost Isles. Alliance-Horde war talk page. I didn't actually make the page yet.Inv helmet 44.pngInv helmet 119.png MoneygruberTheGoblinChieftain of the Gentleman Tribe(talk contribs) 18:22, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
You mean "me and one more person". "A few others" would imply more people than that.
Either way the events are already recorded elsewhere. --g0urra[T҂C] 18:26, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Gilnean Human race template

I was attempting to add a template for the Gilnean humans, icons, I've gone through the process of adding the icons and setting up the Dev and Doc in the Template:Race but I cannot actually finish the template as Template:Race is locked. Could you please unlock the template temporarily so i can finish the addition/do that end part for me if unlocking it is a no? Here are the icons: File:IconSmall Gilnean Male.gifFile:IconSmall Gilnean Female.gif. The icons I'm still working on making them look better, they're placeholders atm.--Whitedragon254 (talk) 22:43, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

I saw your response to the thing I posted on the talk page for the icons, We've got Grimtotem icons (Which are just tauren with face paint), Dragonmaw and Mag'hari, which are just different colored orcs. Gilnean Icons wouldn't be too outlandish.--Whitedragon254 (talk) 01:01, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
I understand where you're coming from... but I can't justify icons where the only difference is clothing... I hardly like making icons for different skin colors. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 01:18, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
I've already made the icons, I'll handle that part, I just need the template part finished. I put the data for the template in the talk for the Icons in the template's talk page. And it seems that face paint would be worse than clothing personally. We've got icons for even lesser cosmetic changes. Atleast the gilnean one would have a proper usage (Could use the template to lead back to the gilneas page rather than the stormwind one whenever we use Human.). Also, The Highborne icons are literally Night elf icons with different clothing on.--Whitedragon254 (talk) 01:30, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but those icons are not up to the standards we hold here. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 02:02, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Just wasn't sure, cause every where on the article including category was just dragonkin, and then the racebox said drakonid. Could have been a typo, good to know, thank you.Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 19:59, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Trivia

While the point is, ironically, trivial, I have to say I disagree with your removal of my note from the Overlord Agmar page. While the wolves are listed in the infobox, the translation of their names is not. The section was written in order to present this information, which, while trivial, was to me of some interest. I've met Agmar and his wolves, but their names passed me by and are one of those neat little touches which for me add detail to the game. The vast majority of players are not sufficiently well-acquainted with Orcish to immediately (or indeed ever) realise that this is what their names mean.

It is, of course, completely trivial, but then that's the point of a Trivia section. Wowpedia is full of Trivia sections containing just such unnecessary information. Trivia as defined by Wiktionary:

insignificant trifles of little importance, especially items of unimportant information

So while I would be happy to agree that the information is trifling, insignificant and of little or no importance... that by definition only makes it perfectly suited for the Trivia section. Since I also consider it interesting, relevant and illustrative of Orcish culture in general (that they would choose to name their wolves Anguish and Suffering), I thought it worth adding. -- Taohinton (talk) 18:28, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Very well, I just didn't find it trivial since their meanings are their titles, so it wasn't unknown or hidden references/knowledge that might be overlooked. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:34, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Corrupted Blood

Why did you move it? "Corrupted Blood" is not used and having to search for "Corrupted Blood (debuff)" is harder

Not used yet, the mob article hasn't been made. But as I see it, new content outweighs removed/old content. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:40, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Category Page

Quick question,

Ive been adding categories to quite a few category-less aticles adn wondered if we have a page that lists the categories we have on the site as this would make adding the correct tags a lot simpler (if only for myself) if there was a structured page with the categories and sub categories listed together:

Something along the lines of:

  • World of Warcraft
  • Epic
  • Guns
  • Staves

Etc etc

If something does exist can i be pointed in the right direction if not i may start working on one as a centralised list would help in my opinion,

Deludo (T If silence is golden why arent monks richC0 Peasents employed to do the work for me so far) 16:59, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

And lo and behold i find the category tree congratulations on the ability to influence my keystrokes and decision making to allow em to find the answer myself, will have to let me know where you learnt how to do it Deludo (T If silence is golden why arent monks richC0 Peasents employed to do the work for me so far) 19:48, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
A list of categories would be interesting to have to make things easier at a glance. Of course it would also be a massive page, until one is made you can use the consistency method (which works for a good portion of items), World of Warcraft will always come first, often followed by its quality or type and then slot and most often items at the end. So World of Warcraft <type> <slot> items for the most part. and World of Warcraft <quality> items unless its things that don't have a type like guns, trinkets and such and will instead have the quality part of their category like World of Warcraft <quality > guns. But yea, sometimes it can get a little confusing and at one point we were going to have the categories be automatic from the tooltips, but it never came to be. It's ok, when I get bored, I check on the recent uploads and from there do corrections on the articles they're on. The fact that I'm doing very minor things to the articles you're creating is very good... most often times I'm doing major changes to fix or just clean things up, but you're articles are very clean, and I thank you for that. Shard of the Defiler

Just curious as to why the Shard of the Defiler isn't allowed to have an item page?

Only reason I could think of is it may be considered datamining, in which case [Crafty's Pole], [Peep's Whistle] and [Ashbringer] would also fall under that as well as everything listed here. Kiingy (talk) 07:33, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Talent Pages

What's gonna happen to all the talent pages in this wiki once MoP hits with the new ones (ex [Improved Power Word: Shield]), I'm gonna assume a "removed from game" tag and change it's category right?--Ashbear160 (talk) 23:01, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

If they are removed then yes, they will go through the normal procedure of "removing" talents. Not sure what you mean by "[changing] it's category" though. --g0urra[T҂C] 23:06, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
it would make most of the ex:priest talents category, have a huge ass list of discontinued talents, since there are a lot less new talents. I think that's a problem, maybe a category for Discontinued Talents or Discontinued <Class> Talents.--Ashbear160 (talk) 23:31, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
