My plan here is to create a list of things that need to be done, and to sketch out how it needs to get done. --DuTempete 13:58, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

Preliminary to-dos:

  • list every warlock page by lowest level category
  • list every stub
  • Draw out category structure including related categories
  • list articles to be cleaned up
  • list articles to be merged
  • list articles to be redirected
  • list articles to be deleted
  • list articles to be moved
  • list articles to be created

--DuTempete 13:58, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

Quest articles

As far as I'm concerned a quest is not complete unless it includes:

  • Intro - <title> is warlock only, at level, quest # in the chain, reward
  • Questbox template - Template:Questbox
  • Pre-requisites - warlock, level, previous quests
  • Objectives - in-game objective
  • Quest Text -
  • Details - locs, zones, drop rates
  • Reward - xp, item, money
  • Quest Progression - see H Warlock [20] Hearts of the Pure
  • External links - using Template:Elinks-quest

--DuTempete 15:55, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

Dumbass didn't know about boilerplates when she wrote this. Use Boilerplate:Quest. --DuTempete talk|contr 14:17, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Warlock zones

Should I/we worry about zones/locations that warlocks go to for quests, but aren't by nature "warlock zones"? --DuTempete 16:12, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

If you could use a hand on this, I am looking for something to work on to help contribute. Just let me know where you would like me to start.

--User:SeiferTim/Sig 09:54, 4 April 2007 (EDT)

I would LOVE some help with this. The cats that are left to go through are: Warlock abilities, Warlock Talents, Warlock sets, and Warlock Trainers.
What I've been doing is going through each article in the cats and subcats, and judging the page for any necessity for editing. There are editing categories on the project page to use for this. If an article is a stub, it goes under stubs, if it seems unfinished it goes under Incomplete, if it needs wikifying and/or medium to serious grammar work it goes under cleanup, etc. If the work is something I can do in 5 minutes, I just do it.
Then I catalog every internal link in the article onto the second heading in the project page. Each article is only listed once, in it's most basic category. If there are any broken links, I do a quick search to see if the link text is wrong, if I can't find the article quickly, I put the link in the Create list.
That's pretty much the gist of what I'm doing right now; just trying to get everything set up for the real work. Don't feel like you have to help me get everything set up, you can just dive in and start fixing up stuff, if you want. Just, please, move or remove the article link from the To Do lists if you finish it.

Ability page Format

I am looking through the ability Pages, trying to make sense of some of them... there is a major lack of standardization in regards to formating so far... [Banish], Curse of Agony and [Seed of Corruption] are threeexamples of what I am currently considering "good" formatting... for everything else, I think I would like to start a new "To-Do" category for "Formatting", and place them there. Ultimately, most of them seem to have a different format from all the others... --User:SeiferTim/Sig 14:40, 6 April 2007 (EDT)

I'm definitely down with that. That's definitely something I noticed when I first browsed the spells lists. --User:DuTempete/Signature 08:57, 7 April 2007 (EDT)
The articles with the formatting we like appear to use Boilerplate:Single spell. I'm sure we'll find that useful in the future. -- User:DuTempete/Signature 11:44, 7 April 2007 (EDT)

Talent formatting

There are a bunch of talent articles, such as [Backlash], that use a really messy template (rather than a boilerplate), and it fudges with future editing of the page. I'd like to replace all these with Boilerplate:Talents. I think this boilerplate encompasses everything needed in the talents articles, and is easy to edit in the future. -- User:DuTempete/Signature 11:41, 7 April 2007 (EDT)

Thought I'd add a note: Lots of talents create new spells, and there's only one page for the combination (eg [Dark Pact]). As I format pages, I'm using Boilerplate:Ability for these, instead of the talents one. (Because that's what it says to do in said boilerplates.) Harveydrone 23:46, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I've finished updating the Affliction talents, they may need some proof reading though --Gonzie 04:26, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
You're doing a good job, Gonzie. I've only made some minor changes, except in one or two articles. You can see the changes I made, if you check your watchlist. The only thing I'm worried about is you removed some things that didn't call for removing. Quotes, and strategy detail are more than welcome in an article, as long as they pertain to the subject of the article, and maintain NPOV. Quotes like the one in Improved Life Tap do need to be from some "official" source, though. Many similar quotes are from the TCG, RPG, or lore, and are fun bits of things to read that make our articles unique, and separate us from the databases. I, personally, can't verify most of them, but I do know there are a few people who can, that are watching. Smiley.gif --DuTempete talk|contr 04:59, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
"Separate us from the databases" is definately the bit I was missing. You're quite right, I won't be so hasty in trimming those parts from now on :)--Gonzie 08:04, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Big Format Changes

I'm a little worried about the possible format changes. It might end up being a big change, and I'm apprehensive about doing it without putting up a vote first. I'm going to ask about it at the village pump. -- User:DuTempete/Signature 12:37, 7 April 2007 (EDT)

Summon Felsteed, and other defuct quests

Copied from the main project page, written by Patrigan: "This should not be changed, these are 2 different parts of the same questline and thus shouldn't be changed. The first one is the quest where you are referred to the Strahad, whilst the second is the part where Strahad teaches you the mount. This is completely in line with the way quests should be shown on the wiki. However, some changes will have to be done to each page individually, as the 2 pages don't seem to link to eachother. Also some aditional notes should be added."

I see what you're talking about. I must've been tired when I looked at those before. =P But the real question is, what are we going to do with defunct quests like this? -- DuTempete talk|contr 11:53, 8 April 2007 (EDT)
Update them, "just for the record". It's something that the nostalgic persons like me love seeing, the youngsters could learn how the old times were (the FREE times ;) ) Don't forget to mention about how it is done now... I would help a hand, but I'm stuck with IRL business, allowing for nothing more than answers to questions atm :p ==Patrigan-Talk/Contr-SH (EU) 20:35, 14 April 2007 (EDT)

Abilities infobox

This infobox was linked to the village pump today. It was written by ALiEN. I think this is definitely worth adding to the abilities pages. Thoughts? -- DuTempete talk|contr 19:08, 9 April 2007 (EDT)

Definitely, it looks good. I have been swamped with work these last couple of days, but as soon as I get a chance, I plan to start fixing all the ability pages - just going down the list, one at a time. --User:SeiferTim/Sig 10:27, 10 April 2007 (EDT)

Ranks tables

Great job on those spell articles, SeiferTim. Only thing I had a problem with is some of the extra info in the rank tables. The way I figure it, anything that remains constant should not be included in the table. That would keep the table to a nice size, and make it easier to read. The table's purpose, as far as I'm concerned, is to provide a visual guide contrasting each rank to the ones before it. Anything that remains the same should be included somewhere else on the page.

I went ahead and removed some of the superfluous info in the tables, and added what was missing to the rest of the article. If there are any problems with what I did, just yell at me. :) --DuTempete talk|contr 09:27, 13 April 2007 (EDT)

No, that's fine, I didn't spend any time looking at the actual content, I just tried to put it into the right format. --User:SeiferTim/Sig 12:08, 13 April 2007 (EDT)

As a note for myself: I'm interested/insane about creating changelogs for each applicable article. Perhaps one of these days, I will go through patch notes and look for changes made, and add a subheading to the articles with a list of those changes. -- DuTempete talk|contr 03:04, 15 April 2007 (EDT)

I've done that with a few talents, but only with those which already have them listed on the page. :)--Sky (t · c · w) 14:47, 15 April 2007 (EDT)

New abilities boilerplate

I'm about to change the current abilities boilerplate. See Boilerplate:Ability! Currently, Boilerplate:Single spell and Boilerplate:Single ability redirect to Boilerplate:Ability--Sky (t · c · w) 14:50, 15 April 2007 (EDT)

That kicks butt, Sky2042! -- DuTempete talk|contr 19:35, 15 April 2007 (EDT)
I plan on doing an overhaul of Boilerplate:Talents also, so you can use both when making your warlock pages look pretty. :) --Sky (t · c · w) 22:59, 15 April 2007 (EDT)
I went ahead and changed [Banish] to use the new Boilerplate. Personally, I think it looks great. I plan to work on others as I find more free-time. --User:SeiferTim/Sig 13:57, 16 April 2007 (EDT)
Seksy! -- DuTempete talk|contr 17:15, 16 April 2007 (EDT)

I would take out {{Classfooter/small}} if I were you; it makes the page look a little silly. I'd also try to eliminate as many bullets as possible, by moving the information into the introduction of the spell. You might end up having less sections that way also.--Sky (t · c · w) 17:24, 16 April 2007 (EDT)

If you have any comments or input on the layout visit at Talk:Boilerplate:Ability. I'm working on mage articles myself, examples at [Cone of Cold] and [Amplify Magic] --Piumosso-Uldum 18:21, 21 April 2007 (EDT)

I've finished all the plain (non-talent) abilities in the to-do list, and separated the talents into those that are abilities (and take Boilerplate:Ability) from those that aren't. I'm going to tackle those next. I think this work is actually making me a better warlock. :-) Harveydrone 00:22, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
That's exactly why I started this. Tongueout.gif --DuTempete talk|contr 20:14, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

I noticed that Cat:Curses is a sub-cat of Cat:Shadow Spells, and almost all curse pages are in both categories.... Harveydrone 23:52, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

But not all. ;) --Sky (t · c · w) 02:49, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Pet abilities

Pet ability articles, including hunter's pets, are in sore need of a boilerplate. Would anyone care to give that a shot? --DuTempete talk|contr 19:41, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

I decided to work on it. I'll post it when I'm finished. --DuTempete talk|contr 04:51, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
User:DuTempete/sandbox2 --DuTempete talk|contr 05:06, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

I had a question. I've been trying to clean up some warlock articles and there's overlap between Warlock Abilities, Summon X, and X (Warlock pet). To be specific, I mean that the pet abilities are listed on each of those pages. Originally, I was going to just move the abilities to the pets' respective pages. However, I'm not sure which one that would be =\. Slavakion 14:30, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Gladiator's Felshroud

The individual items are labelled Felweave, but are part of the Felshroud set. --Gonzie 03:58, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I did notice that. I'll put it down on the project page to be changed. --DuTempete talk|contr 18:51, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Nm. I see that you've changed it. Awesome. Smiley.gif --DuTempete talk|contr 19:03, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Talent builds

Look at Warlock Builds pre-TBC as that is how the talent builds page looked a long long time ago too before everyone and their mother added personal builds User:Sharlin/Sig 16:07, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

And I've actually heard of most of those builds. Interesting. Slavakion 15:51, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Talent category

I noticed that most talent pages had two categories: Category:Warlock talents (page did not exist) and :Category:Warlock Talents. I looked at the cat policy and saw that the former is the correct case. So, I created the Warlock talents cat page, and marked Warlock Talents as incorrect. Both cats still show up on most pages. It looks like the correct case one (Warlock talents) is added from one of the templates, while the Warlock Talents one is coded into each talent page. So, each talent page needs to be fixed for this. Except [Grim Reach], which I just did. Or, someone could decide I was wrong. -- Harveydrone 05:18, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

  • Well I'm sure your intentions are good, but :Category:Warlock talents contains 39 pages, while :Category:Warlock Talents has 68. Anyway, I'm not sure that it's necessary to create another cat page just for a minor mistake... In English, each word in a title must be capitalized (except 'the', 'of', 'and' etc), so I see why the category policy was not respected. Well, no one seemed to be bothered. Good luck in re-creating the entire cat :P

Warlock Abilities

I was taking a look at the Warlock abilities page, and noticed that it is poorly set up in comparison to other pages, such as Mage abilities, or moreover, Paladin abilities. I'd like to play with this page some and see if it can be formatted a little better to reflect a more consistent formatting with other abilities pages. In addition, the pet base abilities are missing some information, if they are to stay on the main warlock abilities page. Here is where I'm playing with it before I decide to put stuff on the actual page, if you would like to take a look at it. So far, the main table and the Minion Abilities tables are the only things I've touched, but plan on trying to get the other abilities formatted better with some more information. -- wingsofscion 19:26, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

[Pandemic] talent

I recently created the page for [Pandemic], the critting DoT talent, and put all the basic rank information and proper formatting. However, I don't feel I'm enough of a Warlock to comment on the full impact of this talent and thought this might be the place to find someone who can contribute some insight to it. Minion ability scaling

The articles for minion abilities need scaling info. I couldn't find anything on elitistjerks or wowhead. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 07:13, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

According to the rawr source code, all the direct damage abilities use 100% of the minion's spell power. I've added that information to the spell power coefficient article. I haven't been able to find any information on non-damage ability scaling. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 03:18, September 29, 2009 (UTC)

[Immolation Aura]'s level-based damage scaling

The damage for Immolation Aura seems to be based on level. At level 67, the damage listed in the tooltip is 331 to 332, we could use data for other levels. I've brought this up on Talk:Metamorphosis, since Immolation Aura doesn't have its' own article yet. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 03:31, September 30, 2009 (UTC)

[Shadow Mastery] and Curse of Doom

The Curse of Doom and Shadow Mastery articles mention a rumour about Shadow Mastery not affecting Curse of Doom. Could someone specced for Affliction test this to confirm or refute the rumour? -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 04:32, September 30, 2009 (UTC)

When did [Curse of the Elements] start reducing nature resistance?

Currently, Curse of the Elements reduces nature resistance, but the article's patch history section doesn't mention this change, which seems to have happened at some point after patch 2.4.3 and before patch 3.1.0. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 02:03, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
