Mulgore Quests

You aren't done with Mulgore Quests right? When you're done, please put either {{Transclude}} or [[Category:Quests]].

Any questions just ask me! Smiley.gif --User:Lessthan1337/Sig 12:36, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you, I added the category and also added a link to the page from the main Mulgore page. I think we should include tables like this on the zone pages and have questing guides linked, what do you think? --Jiyambi t || c

Sig template

You should investigate things like Tekkub's signature template. Easier to maintain and change retroactively, less additional text on the page. And easier to parse while editing comments like these... :) --Eirik Ratcatcher 18:38, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

While the Boilerplate:Object is great idea, could use {{Elinks-object}} addition, Totem of Akida is treated as an NPC by the game. --GRYPHONtc 22:19, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I didn't think of that. I plan to work on it a little more before putting it up as an actual boilerplate. And I haven't actually made the totem's page yet, I will change the example to an actual object tho. --Jiyambi t || c 22:22, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
It occurs to me that some people may not know the difference between an object and an NPC or an object and an item. Should this be described in the boilerplate as hidden text or should there be a separate article for it? --Jiyambi t || c 23:45, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Might want to avoid the use of {{loot}} when they are only going to self link. It makes readability a little difficult. And the item name doesn't need to be in the section headers. --GRYPHONtc 19:09, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I will change those things in my edits/contribs from now on. However, we might want to change the item boilerplate because it uses "ItemName as a Quest Objective" and "ItemName as an Ingredient". So if we don't want the item name in the section headers, we should change the boilerplate to read "As a Quest Objective" - just as understandable without the name. --Jiyambi t || c 23:53, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Minor edits

When you're doing things like categorizing pages, could you check the "minor edit" box? Helps a lot when I'm scrolling through the recent changes list, especially if you do several million of em. Thanks! Pzychotix (talk · contr) 02:00, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Ha, I will next time. Sorry about that. I had just read a post where someone got berated for using minor edit too much, so I didn't want to get in trouble. But for categorizations from now on I will use it. --Jiyambi t || c 03:34, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Quest chains

Looked at those chains you pointed me to... I can tell you what I would have done differently, but ALL of this is personal preference. Whose is "better" is a decision for the audience, perhaps. Errands for Kravel Chain, and Freedom for All Creatures.

I'd have left off the "chain" at the end of the names. It's part of the Quest Chains category, after all. Though I might have prefaced it with the pseudo-namespace prefix of "Quest Chain:". Or I might not have. Examples of both exist, though lately I've been using the prefix. That's one reason I created the {{questchain}} template.

I feel that the rewards section really deserves to be on a level with the summary, not a subsection of it. And I'm a big fan of the summary being at the end...

I also stated in the boilerplate why I didn't like using the quest names as section headers. This holds for these pages too.

On the content: You may have noted that my quest chain descriptions are closer to what you did for Freedom, than for Kravel. But even there, my descriptions are more "in character" where yours are more technical. I do like the pictures you've added to these, but I am somewhat less in favor of how 'open' the pages are, all that blank space. These are mostly issues of taste, though.

On the technical aspects: I would probably make "Fool's Stout" a note under under "Get the Goblins Drunk". Its purpose is to provide you with another Fool's Stout in case you lose the one you had, or it expires due to time or whatever. It's not really part of the quest chain as such. And, are you able to complete both get XXX drunk" quests? Or is it that once you complete one, the other is not offered? On Freedom for All Creatures quest chain's reward section, I would have listed the sprite darter egg first, for two reasons: 1) it's more special than the reputation award (though that's a nice batch of rep). 2) less confusing with the optional rewards currently listed directly above it.

On the quests making up the content: I note a few things about them. First, Took me a while to find the link to the quest chain, despite several opportunities for it to appear. I (currently) feel it belongs up in the header section of the quest, rather than buried down in the "quest progression" section where you have to slog through the page to find it.

Second, a personal preference: I find the "indented, italic, using <BR>" style irritating. This may just be "Not Invented Here" showing through, but there it is nonetheless.

On A [47] The Newest Member of the Family, I would add a notes section describing the fastest route (and times) for getting to the Hinterlands. ... or at least a request for that information. Perhaps a suggestion that picking up the flight point in the Hinterlands might be a good thing?

And again, on Freedom, you've included the rewards for each quest directly with the page. I don't feel this adds to the information provided, since the reader is going to go to the quest page anyway, and the individual totals are already summed up in the Summary. A last technical bit, I think you may have lost something (information, recommendations) on moving much of the  [Sprite Darter Egg] page to the quest chain page. Err... I see. pcj diddled the page with Foxbot. (Don't get me started. Seriously. That's a rant I've already done elsewhere.) Please DO check the history of the page, and see if there's anything that should be recovered. It might really be useful to recover the walkthrough and all.

A consequence of your summary being early on the page (and describing individual quest rewards) is that you are left describing (again) the ultimate reward as a sort of afterthought at the bottom of the page. I find that ... unappealing, I guess.

But I guess the biggest real difference between your pages and the ones I've done lately is that I've tried to take the opportunity to use the chain page to tell the story, rather than simply list the "do this, do that". And believe me, that takes a LOT of work. ...which is why I've done so few, where you've managed 2 or more in the space of a few hours. While I think there's room for improvement (also room on chain pages I myself have created), there's enough quest chains still begging for description that it may be a while before these get edited again.

I apologize for being quite so long winded, but ... I am. Can't help it. Don't mean any offense, just my honest opinions. Thank you for feeling my opinion to be worth asking about. I do appreciate it. --Eirik Ratcatcher 19:17, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Lest it get lost in all the verbiage above, "Good Job" making the pages, the associated quests, items, etc. Even if I do carp unceasingly about particulars. After all, can't carp if the page ain't there. --Eirik Ratcatcher 19:19, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Its fine, in fact thanks :) I actually hadn't got around to working on those individual quests for the "Freedom" chain, those were all made by others or by bot (except for 2 of them). I think I will go through and have another go at those two pages, taking some (probably most in fact) of your suggestions. I will let you know when I am done, so you can look at them again if you like. I really did find the advice helpful, thank you :) --Jiyambi t || c 19:58, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
See my response on Help talk:Quest chain articles --Jiyambi t || c 21:18, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

First I was going to suggest that we go with Taming the Beast quest chain (Night Elf), rather than Taming the Beast (Night Elf) quest chain, but then making templates like {{questchain}} (which I'll be changing to make work for "<name> quest chain") won't work. Hmm... --Sky (t · c · w) 22:21, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Ya, I wasn't 100% sure what to name it, but the main quest is named A IconSmall NightElf Male.gifIconSmall NightElf Female.gif Hunter [10] Taming the Beast... hence the name. I agree it doesn't sound quite right, but I suppose we can move it later if we think of something better. --Jiyambi t || c 22:23, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Just wanted to draw attention to

Powerlevel_Coldridge_Valley :). There are a few others in the guides category, most of which can be seen by entering "powerlevel" into the google search. Have fun importing to the quest guides and prettifying. :). --Sky (t · c · w) 17:10, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

OOooo thankies. I will provide a link to it somewhere too. --Jiyambi t || c 17:18, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Use template:t

Don't worry about fixing the references to {{tlink}}. Just putting you on notice :) --Sky (t · c · w) 21:15, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

No prob, I was using {{t}} most the time anyways, I think I recently cut/pasted some stuff with {{tlink}} in it tho. I will use {{t}} from now on. --Jiyambi t || c 23:54, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

just a note

Yes, I'm back. It's preferable to use <strike> and </strike> to show irrelevant or old comments which don't hold ground that you've made. Just an fyi. :) --Sky (t · c · w) 21:16, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Ah, will do. I was a little worried because I figured normally deleting talk comments = bad, but since it was a minor issue I went ahead and got rid of it to avoid confusion. But I will use the strike next time. --Jiyambi t || c 21:17, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Leaving another note :D: Have a look at Ghostlands#Quests: Your tables could probably use some of that. Also, check the most recent changes to Teldrassil quests and Teldrassil. Thank ye's for your hard work! :) --Sky (t · c · w) 07:59, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Ah, now I remember seeing that ghostlands one before. I dont like that the faction/level/quest name are separate (its fine with just questlong in my opinion), but I do like the prereq note. I will try adding that to the next table I make, or modify an existing one, and see what people think. Oh and I like the Teldrassil quests changes. And your zonebox = rawk. That is all. --Jiyambi t || c 16:05, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
"capital" was supposed to be used to replace the "Kingdom" section of the tables... :P --Sky (t · c · w) 17:48, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
I know. Kingdom sounded dumb, capital is much better. I just had to make it so it didn't show up for zones that didn't have a city in them. --Jiyambi t || c 17:49, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
But that was the point. It was to show which capital that zone was affiliated with. Which NPCs are gonna be the main ones one finds there.
As to categorizing, I saw you working on the category, and I was like, sure, why not, I'm bored and need a little bit of automation. :P --Sky (t · c · w) 22:22, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
Ah, so the intention was for the capital to be for all zones. Well, I suppose it makes sense for some, but really most zones aren't affiliated with one capital. It seems to me that the "races" section is enough for the NPC info in the zone box. However if you feel like going back through the zones I worked on and adding in the capital, I won't stop you ;) --Jiyambi t || c 22:24, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
All the zones which would have one affiliated with them. Elwynn -> Darkshire, but not STV, would be under "Stormwind". As to going back and fixing it, maybe. Heh. --Sky (t · c · w) 22:26, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
I can see your point. For example Darkshore = Darnassus, Bloodmyst Isle = the Exodar. I might change those myself, since there are only a few. I got through all the Kalimdor zone pages, but I'm done with zone pages for at least today :P I will move on to the Eastern Kingdoms, Outland, and the City pages eventually... --Jiyambi t || c 22:29, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

As a point of note, pretty much only WRPG represents the time around TFT. Anything from Lands of Conflict and Lands of Mystery (which I actually have to highly edit in order to remove the informal first person style, and make it closer to formal third-person style we use in wiki) represents a timeframe of within a year or two, before World of Warcraft. Anything starting with Alliance Player's Guide on up takes placing within the timeframe of World of Warcraft, although before The Burning Crusade. A basic timeline can be found in the main Warcraft RPG article.Baggins 17:31, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Ha, I really ought to get some of those books o.O Again, I really appreciate that you responded so quickly and comprehensively to my concern. You rock, you crazy hobbit! --Jiyambi t || c 17:34, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
No problem :).Baggins 17:37, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

no, don't do [[Quests:x]], please! Category:Cooking Quests was fine. --Sky (t · c · w) 21:32, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

No it wasn't. It screws up the questbox. Questbox lists things as category:"category field", which is why all the zone quest categories are like that. Please leave the change, or change the questbox, but they need to work together. --Jiyambi t || c 21:32, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Quest box needs changing, but that's gonna break all the other quest categories, which there shouldn't be more than 20 or 30 of. Could you fix that possibly, or too much work? --Sky (t · c · w) 21:42, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Actually, it should do everything pretty automatically, we will just need to copy and paste the categories. There will of course be an issue with the numerous quests who don't have a questbox yet or have hardcoded categories (as opposed to those put there by the box). But these are an issue anyway. I will mess with it when I have a big block of wiki time, that may not be until after I move next week. Can we agree to leave it as is until then? --Jiyambi t || c 21:46, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
No problem; I've had this in mind for a while. --Sky (t · c · w) 21:55, 5 September 2007 (UTC) PS: I'm gonna kill Alliance, Horde, and Neutral categories; those are the easy ones from what I can see. --Sky (t · c · w) 22:00, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Ok, looks to me like there are at least 150 to 200 that are hardcoded with Quests:Alliance/Horde/Neutral. I'll have a go at those when I get the chance. :) --Sky (t · c · w) 08:02, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Good, good - they are probably in a very outdated format anyways :P In fact, looking at which quests have the wrong categories could help us find out which ones need reformatting. --Jiyambi t || c 17:49, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Sky, there are over 400 that are hardcoded just with Category:Quests:Alliance. /Cry. This is going to take forever.... --Jiyambi t || c 18:23, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

If you do just 10 a day, and I do just 10 a day, and Mikaka does just 10 a day... I'll have a go at it tonight. :) --Sky (t · c · w) 04:39, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
And done. See WW:BR for how I did it. ^_^ --Sky (t | c | w) 07:25, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

The Regiment

Hey! Sorry about the late reply; I've been away for a while on a business trip and all of the mail for recruitment goes directly to my mail box. Bleh, we'll need to fix that in the future. However, I thought that I'd drop you a quick message, say hi, let you know that I'd love to have an interview with you sometime soon. Sorry again for being neglectful! User:Cynra/Sig 03:35, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

That's more than fine. I just felt guilty that I hadn't been able to make a prompt reply to your request! We'll see you sometime in December then. User:Cynra/Sig 04:38, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh, wow, hi! I've been a bit busy lately with a project at work, but I'm definitely still around and managing the guild in-game. We can arrange for an interview at your convenience, assuming that I am available. If not, one of my fellow Generals can handle that. Also as a note, we're hosting our season Winter's Veil party on the 22 of December, so that would be a wonderful opportunity to interact with everyone and see if you're still interested. I rarely check WoW Wiki any more, but if you drop me a line in-game on either Csilla or Eszti I'll definitely get back to you. User:Cynra/Sig 15:02, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! I will certainly do that. Unfortunately I haven't been playing my Feathermoon character much because my troll rogue on Uther finally got to level 70, but I would love to get in on some fun RP with you guys! --Jiyambi t || c 20:05, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Well done

You have finished what I have started and because of that I shall hand the torch over to you. You are now the leader of that page K? Congratulations. And I have a confession: (whispers) I don't have the game. :) Aka Paradox 02:51, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Side note: as originally discussed no pages have "leaders". User:Kirkburn/Sig3 03:00, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, Aka Paradox, but Kirkburn is correct. And as a note, the page is still evolving and improving (see it's talk page, more pets are being discussed), so it will probably never be finished. Also, I no longer have the game either, I quit (at least for this term) so I can do better in school. But in any case, you deserve thanks since you set the page in motion :) --Jiyambi t || c 16:35, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
For Kirkburn: DO you have to ruin the moment? It's a context of speech. Aka Paradox 21:58, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
 :) I try my best! It's a good page, btw. User:Kirkburn/Sig3 22:21, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the updates to zonebox, do you think you could add "rulers" section as well?. That may be interesting info to relate to any capitals in a zone.Baggins 04:52, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Blasted Lands, a good example of a lore "Affiliation". Just pointing an example out in advance, seeing as you just used "faction" for teldrassil, since it was "Alliance". You should also see a small handful that use, "Scourge", or "Independent", or "None" as affiliations as well.Baggins 05:25, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

I added "government" to the zonebox, as it relates important information to the ruler type.Baggins 09:24, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Oh it looks like we may need an optional population section for instance infoboxes. Maraudon for example, has a population of 3,500 approximately.Baggins 18:14, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
That should be easy enough to add, I will do it in a bit if someone else doesn't get to it first. --Jiyambi t || c 18:16, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I only split it up like the book had it split up. Introduciton section was seperate than the geography section. Baggins 05:20, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps, but we're not really here to copy the books verbatim :P Kirkburn  talk  contr 13:52, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Baggins I was teasing you :P I do believe introduction sections are specifically discouraged in Wowpedia:Manual of Style, however, so I guess we should try to integrate them into either the lead section or other parts of the article in the future. --Jiyambi t || c 20:23, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Welcome back!

Saw your edit of Buzzbox somethingorother, and thought "well, there's another quest chain to write up eventually! Been busy with RL in the last little while, only done up another couple quest chains lately... --Eirik Ratcatcher 00:44, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, its funny, one of the Buzzbox quests was my very first WoWWiki edit, not counting my user page. Anyways I am back, I am working some on the Darkshore quests now since I have a character questing there. See ya around! --Jiyambi t || c 05:04, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Odd... It always seems that it's the quests I've done just recently that I work on ... wonder why that is... :) --Eirik Ratcatcher 00:34, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi! I've edited several of your user pages to replace {{lootpic}} with {{item}}. Just so you're aware. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:09, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Is there a way to set that up so it pulls the icon directly from the loot page? Not critical in any way, just curious. --Jiyambi t || c 00:15, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
That's what it does...retrieves the icon from the icon parameter of tooltip on the item page. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 18:42, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
...Oh. I feel silly now :) --Jiyambi t || c 20:20, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

If you recall, several months ago when you first made {{Chain}}, I lamented that we could not find a way to link the actual picture to the place on the page that was desired. However, thanks to Coobra's signature, I discovered <Imagelink>, which lets you link images to pages in the wiki, like this: Quest chain! This should make the Chain template very useful. I am having some trouble getting it to work as a template with a variable link, but I imagine that more has to do with my own incompetence. Thought you'd like to know! --Mikaka 09:45, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately, this is exactly what I was originally trying to do and what cannot work with WoWWiki. It is, from what I am told and have experienced, impossible to use template inputs inside an imagelink. I don't know enough about code to know why, but it seems to be the case. --Jiyambi t || c 10:49, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Well. Balls to that, then. Damn, thought I'd found something useful. --Mikaka 20:41, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

I just thought of it; there are tons of guides on allakhazam that can be used as a basis to write our own. In other words, take the quest orders, go through the quests, and change what needs changing. And as to how I find these things, I'm a Recent changes refresh whore. :D --Sky (t | c | w) 20:57, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Eversong Woods quests and questing guide

I noticed you said on User talk:Hobinheim/Quest Guide that you work or plan to work on an Eversong Woods questing guide. To avoid double work: I'm working on the quests article User:Reeina/Sandbox/Eversong Woods quests and the questing guide as well. (Reeina 18:21, 14 February 2008 (UTC))

Okies :) The quest list article looks quite nice. Should we combine our questing guide efforts? The main reason I chose to do an Eversong Woods guide at this time is because I happen to be leveling a blood elf character in there. But I am not too attached to the project, if you want to take it over. --Jiyambi t || c 03:00, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Since you asked, yes I would like to finish the guide. I nearly finished the EW quests article and put some time in verifying and updating about every related quest article (and even created item articles, when missing - and I'm not really interested in that), so I spent some time on this subject already and like the questing guide to round it up. I hope you don't mind me copy/pasting from you ;-P
It seems that the interest for zone quests and questing guide articles is not the only interest we have in common. I stepped over Talk:Wanted Poster - Arnak Grimtotem when I was looking for a way to do wanted poster article ;-) I'd like to have a wanted poster icon, to include in quest lists. (Reeina 20:30, 16 February 2008 (UTC))
I did Hellfire Peninsula quests quite a while ago (hence the old formatting) but in the horde quests there I used Image:Policysign.png like this: Policysign.png Wanted Poster. Not the best solution, since if you look really close the sign says "policy" on it, but it mostly works. Let me know if you find something better, though! Anyways, feel free to use whatever you want from the guide I have going. I have plenty of alts I am bringing up through the ranks, and I like to work on guides for the zones each of them is in, so I have lots of other stuff to occupy my time :) --Jiyambi t || c 21:19, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey again, Reeina. My blood elf has reached the Ghostlands, and I was wondering if you were planning on making a Ghostlands guide. If not, I will start working on one while I quest there. --Jiyambi t || c 01:13, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Jiyambi, I am questing in yhe Ghostlands too, I would like to do the quest page and guide as well, as they fit very will with my work on the Eversong Woods and Silvermoon city pages. (Reeina 17:43, 2 March 2008 (UTC))
Good :) I am doing a questing guide with another character atm anyways, so that works out well. Let me know when your guides are done, I would love to see them! --Jiyambi t || c 20:48, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

AlsoSee and sons

Done yet more research, found wikipedia's similar templates. Would value your input here, if you have time. --Eirik Ratcatcher 00:42, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

The final frontier. No, wait, wrong space. Saw you'd removed some intersection space I'd inserted in Summoning the Charger quest chain. While I had not been consistent, I had thought the extra space useful. I am guessing you thought otherwise? --Eirik Ratcatcher 18:13, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Heh, no, the stupid editor does that automatically. I have also come up against this problem, as I like extra space at the end of sections. However, if you edit that section, it automatically deletes any extra spaces at the end of it (at least it does for me). All I purposely did was fix your broken link :P --Jiyambi t || c 21:23, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Have created {{questsure}} and {{questunsure}} as substitutes for {{quest}}. Comments by foxlit fairly apropriately called that the majority of links don't need the extra ifnotexist functionality that got added to {{quest}} (well, to {{loot}}, the root of foxlit's comment).

A short term solution is to substitute questsure for quest on those pages that complain. A long term solution is

  1. globally substitute questunsure for quest - when the quest page is not found.
  2. alter quest to remove the unneeded ifexist clause

Ideally, I think questunsure would be the province of bot-created pages. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 23:53, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Sounds great to me! Unfortunately, I am going to be pretty busy for the next two weeks, and any free time I have will probably go to managing my guild, so I won't be able to do much with this for a little while. However, once this school term is over I plan to get back to work on quest lists. Thanks again! --Jiyambi t || c 02:13, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

BTW, are you interested in voting on either of these issues? It seemed like maybe you were.

  1. Change categories with "World of Warcraft" to "WoW"? Vote here.
  2. Avoid repeating prefixes on sub-categories? Vote here.
