A death knight on a Winged Steed in Hellfire Peninsula

The Winged Steed of the Ebon Blade is an epic flying mount only available to death knights.

Source

This death knight-only flying mount can be purchased from Dread Commander Thalanor in Acherus: The Ebon Hold for 1,000g. This is the starting price without the discounts based on the death knight's reputation with the Knights of the Ebon Blade.

A Death Knight Exalted with the Knights of the Ebon Blade or a Death Knight Goblin can buy the Steed for 700g, reducing the cost quite a lot.

When Acherus moves to the Broken Isles, Quartermaster Ozorg sells it for 1,000g only. As he is factionless, it is best to purchase the mount before experiencing Legion content.

Notes & trivia

  • Because all death knights start as Friendly with the Knights of the Ebon Blade, the actual starting price is only 950g.
  • This is the first and only class-specific flying mount (except flight forms, as they are not technically "mounts"), and one of the unique perks of the hero class.
  • This mount is not account-wide. Just as a paladin must reach a certain level to learn their class mounts, or a druid their shapeshifting forms, each death knight character must buy their own to have one.
  • It is the only gryphon mount available to Horde players.
  • Their model was changed in China due to not being allowed to show bones. They instead use a spectral gryphon-looking model.
