Forums: Village pump → Expanding images in infoboxes

Here is an idea that came to me sometime ago. The CNC Wiki does a neat way of including multiple images in the infobox, much cleaner compared to how we have it for say {{WC3UnitBox}} where you use multiple parameters to add images (e.g. |image=, |image2=).

See here for an example article that uses a simple and cleaner way of adding multiple images with the use of tabber.

|slides =
File:Image1.jpg {{!}} Image1
File:Image2.jpg {{!}} Image2

It uses a template that invokes a module that does all the special work. How would this be useful for Wowpedia? A lot of ways like having Male / Female screenshots of an NPC in the infobox instead of having one of them down in the gallery or below the infobox. When I mentioned about this idea in the Discord some time ago, DeludedTroll made another good example where the mannequin NPCs that spawn after the fight with Odyn in Trial of Valor could make use of this by separating each image by armor type. Maybe this could also be used for the Old God infobox?

The |slides= parameter would be optional and will not display if |image= is used (as most pages will only need one image in the infobox anyways). Additionally, this module could be used for multiple infoboxes, not just the {{Npcbox}} if it makes sense. Thoughts?

I like the male / female pic idea. Sounds good overall to me. HordeRace bloodelf male Mordecay (talk) 23:55, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
Another great example for this idea: using Old Blanchy article as an example, could add the old "classic" model to the infobox along side the new one. — SurafbrovWowpedia administrator T / C 10:15, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
I'm not sure that's necessary, but I'm not against it either Xporc (talk) 10:21, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
Personally, I'd prefer it was used in relatively limited cases. I don't think using it to show historical versions of a character alongside the current version is a good idea; the infobox should reflect a character's current state, and pictures of old models are more suited to a biography or gallery section. The tool would be more suited for cases when there are multiple current-day versions of an NPC (like when a mob can spawn as either gender). IMO, anyway. -- IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 10:51, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
Fair enough! — SurafbrovWowpedia administrator T / C 11:37, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
In the male/female example, how would we judge is the best way to pick the gender that appears 'first'?DDC (talk) 15:03, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
Not sure why we need to judge on which one should appear first. Just add them to the infobox. Doesn't matter which one comes first. — SurafbrovWowpedia administrator T / C 23:38, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Revival[]

{{SlidesToTabber}}. Obviously, you can't put a lot in there but if there are only a couple images and the descriptions of it can be small (like "Human" and "Dwarf"), it'll work. Let me know. Surafbrov (talk) 03:56, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
