Karabor is a draenei temple, one of their most holy sites, and the home of the Prophet Velen. It stands as the draenei capital and splits into The Coliseum of Light, the Gardens of Eternity, the K'arani Terrace, Karabor Harbor, the Path of the Light, and the Tranquil Court.

During the events of the Iron Horde, Karabor became a hot spot for Grommash Hellscream's conquest of Draenor. As such, he assigned Commander Vorka to lead the attack from the Harbour. To ensure victory, Ner'zhul planned to summon the Dark Star to dismantle the defenses and take out the draenei's most powerful constructs. Should these event come to be, Karabor would have fallen for sure. Fortunately, Velen prevented this fate by sacrificing himself to purify the Dark Star. The Iron Horde attack failed.

In the aftermath of the battle, the city is littered with corpses. The draenei peacekeepers burn the bodies of their allies and enemies. The rest of the city returned to its normal state.

Trivia

Garrisons - Tier 2 view

An early beta version of Lunarfall and Karabor.

  • Karabor was originally planned to be the Alliance capital city in Draenor, with its Horde counterpart being Bladespire Citadel (then named Bladespire Fortress) in Frostfire Ridge, but with the release of the expansion's beta this plan was scrapped in favor of placing the faction hubs on Ashran. This change triggered significant disapproving responses from the community.[1] The Inv jewelry necklace 28 [Relic of Karabor] is a leftover from this time. Lunarfall was also originally intended to be much closer to Karabor.

Speculation

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

It is possible that Karabor is named after K'ara, the naaru that was ejected from the Genedar in the chaos of its crash and came to be known as the Dark Star to the orcs of Shadowmoon Valley. The K'arani Terrace is another hint toward that possibility.
