The Mythic+ dungeon system provides an endlessly scaling challenge in 5-player Mythic dungeons. Parties compete against a timer while dealing with weekly-rotating affixes that encourage different tactics. Mythic+ compares to Challenge Mode but replaces it with a greater emphasis on difficulty and solid execution rather than pure speed. Players receive gear proportionate to their difficulty, or keystone level, and rank according to Mythic+ Rating achieved throughout the PvE season.

Overview[]

  • Completing a Mythic+ dungeon rewards epic gear at a higher base ilvl than any other source besides raiding
  • Mythic+ dungeons have keystone levels beginning at +2 (ordinary Mythic dungeons are colloquially "0" or "M0")
  • With increasing keystone levels:
    • Enemies deal 8% greater damage and have 8% greater health pools
    • Additional weekly affixes appear at +7 and +14

Previously only dungeons from the current expansion were eligible. Currently a mix of current dungeons, and dungeons from previous expansions, are used. New seasons normally coincide with the opening of a new raid, resulting in higher mob scaling and item level rewards. Mythic+ Rating and various achievements track a player's best performances in each dungeon until the season ends.

Starting[]

Main article: Mythic Keystone
Mythic Keystone Level 2

A level 2 Keystone

To start a Mythic+ dungeon, at least one player in the party must have a Inv relics hourglass 02 [Mythic Keystone] (for the current dungeon rotation) or a Inv relics hourglass [Timeworn Keystone] (for Legion Timewalking) to insert in a Font of Power.

Keystones are acquired by completing a Mythic or Mythic+ dungeon, or by opening the Great Vault after a weekly dungeon reset. A player may only possess one at a time, and will only receive one per week.

Font of Power empty

An empty Font of Power.

  1. Set the dungeon difficulty to Mythic before entering the dungeon.
  2. A Font of Power object will be present near the dungeon's entrance, similar to the Challenge Mode dungeon object.
  3. The player with the Keystone must click on the Font of Power to open the Mythic+ UI.
  4. Place the Keystone from the bags into the socket in the center of the UI window.
  5. Wait a few moments so that it will update with the Keystone level and additional information about the dungeon.
  6. Click the red "Activate" button at the bottom of the window.

Once the Activate button is clicked, this will force all players to reload their UI, place a ghostly green wall in front of the party, and begin a 10-second countdown timer. When this reaches 0, the wall is removed and the Mythic+ timer begins.

Completing[]

The players' aim is to defeat all of the bosses in the dungeon, as well as a set amount of trash before the Mythic+ timer expires.

The player who started the dungeon will receive a new keystone based on the outcome:

  • Resetting the dungeon downgrades the keystone by one level without changing the dungeon the keystone is set to.
  • Completing the dungeon after the timer changes it to another (random) dungeon but downgrades the level by 1. For example, if a group completes a +19, but doesn't do so within the timer, the keystone will change over to a new dungeon on +18.
  • Completing the dungeon ahead of the timer changes the dungeon and upgrades the keystone by +1 (on time), +2 (>20% time to spare) or +3 (>40% time to spare).
Keystone End Dungeon Upgrade

Keystones can be upgraded up to 3 levels based how fast to complete the dungeon.

A toast window will pop up when you complete the dungeon, displaying whether you beat the timer or not. This window also shows how many levels the Keystone is upgraded by if you successfully beat the timer, as well as how much Mythic+ Rating you earned, if any.

Leaderboards[]

See also: Mythic+ Rating

Weekly leaderboards track the best 100 completions (by difficulty, then time) on each server:

The Battle Net (website) API provides the means for websites to query up to 500 per server. Players on high-population servers might not reach their own leaderboard with an inferior result, but they could yet appear on another server's leaderboard if they joined a pickup group with at least one player in a lower-population server.

In-game, seasonal performance is also tracked through Mythic+ Rating. To incentivize inviting players with inferior Mythic+ experience, bonus Flightstone-dragonflight [Flightstones] are earned whenever a player achieves a personal season-best score for a given dungeon.

Composition and preparation[]

You cannot change party members once you have begun a Mythic+ dungeon.

Mythic+ dungeons, at least up to level 10, are balanced so that proper execution is a bigger factor in the party's success than any particular composition.

You cannot change talents or specs while inside the dungeon once you have begun. However, you can zone out of the dungeon and use a Inv relics libramofgrace [Tome of the Tranquil Mind] to change your talents before re-entering.

Challenger's Burden[]

Inside a Mythic+ dungeon, Achievement challengemode everbloom hourglass [Challenger's Burden] shaves 5 seconds from the timer as a penalty whenever any player dies. This debuff forces the party to consider whether a "death run" - streaking past trash mobs only to die and resurrect behind them - is strategically beneficial. In certain cases, such as the opening hallway in Black Rook Hold, the party may determine if it is worth saving their potion cooldown (and using potions for 10 minutes), instead of killing the trash or using Invisibility potions.

This also serves as an indicator to the party that they may not be ready for a certain Mythic+ level. If accidental deaths are too frequent, the party will run out its clock long before completing the dungeon. Players will need to return with better gear, techniques and strategies to succeed.

Affixes[]

Mythic Plus Objectives

Affix information appears in the Objectives frame - this run featured the Sanguine affix

Mythic Keystone Level 7

A level 7 Keystone has two affixes

An affix changes how mobs behave. Affixes appear on all Mythic+ dungeon keys, but the number and type depends on the keystone level. The first affix is gained at level 2, the second at level 7, and the third at level 14. If the Keystone has an affix listed on it, then all of the enemies in that Mythic+ dungeon will inherit this property unless specified.

Active affixes are set game-wide on a week-by-week basis, and remain the same for all players until the next weekly reset. This means that every keystone will have the same set of level 2, 7, and 14 affixes for the week.

Information about each affix appears on the Font of Power interface, the Mythic Dungeons interface, and the objectives frame (where the timer and kill count appear) during the dungeon run.

Level 2 affixes[]

Mythic +2 alternates between two affixes each week:

  • Ability toughness [Fortified] — Increases the health and damage of non-boss enemies.
  • Achievement boss archaedas [Tyrannical] — Increases the health and damage of boss enemies.

Level 7 affixes[]

Mythic +7 adds one of the following affixes:

  • (New) Achievement boss anomalus [Incorporeal] — While in combat, incorporeal beings appear and attempt to destabilize players with spells that reduce their damage and healing done. Incorporeal beings are susceptible to all forms of crowd control.
  • (New) Spell misc emotionsad [Afflicted] — While in combat, Afflicted Souls appear that seek the aid of players. Afflicted Souls spawn with poison, curse, and disease afflictions. Removing any of these afflictions or restoring the soul to full health causes it to despawn. Fail to remove their afflictions in time will inflict players with a negative status effect.
  • (New) Inv misc root 01 [Entangling] — While in combat, entangling vines snare players.
  • Spell nature cyclone [Storming] — While in combat, enemies periodically summon damaging whirlwinds.
  • Spell shaman lavasurge [Volcanic] — While in combat, enemies periodically cause gouts of flame to erupt beneath the feet of distant players.

Level 14 affixes[]

Mythic +14 adds one of the following affixes:

  • Ability warrior battleshout [Bolstering] — When any non-boss enemy dies, its death cry empowers nearby allies, increasing their maximum health and damage by 20%.
  • Ability ironmaidens whirlofblood [Bursting] — When slain, non-boss enemies explode, causing all players to suffer damage over 4 sec. This effect stacks.
  • Ability warrior focusedrage [Raging] — Non-boss enemies enrage at 30% health remaining, dealing 100% increased damage until defeated.
  • Spell shadow bloodboil [Sanguine] — When slain, enemies leave behind a lingering pool of ichor that heals their allies and damages players.
  • Spell holy prayerofshadowprotection [Spiteful] — Fiends rise from the corpses of non-boss enemies and pursue random players.

Retired affixes[]

Level 10 seasonal affixes[]

Removed from game The subject of this section was removed from World of Warcraft in patch 10.1.0.

Mythic +10 adds a seasonal affix which, unlike the others, does not change week by week. It spans the entire Mythic+ season and usually shares a theme with the current raid tier. These affixes often require greater changes in strategy and pathing through the dungeon, either to reach all objectives or deliberately omit one (incurring a unique trade-off in the final boss fight). Thus, dungeons beginning at 10+ may have an entirely different feel than easier ones or previous seasons.

With Dragonflight Season 2, the seasonal affix has been retired. Since Dragonflight introduced the dungeon rotation to keep each season fresh and interesting, the additional variety provided by seasonal affixes was no longer needed.[1] It is unknown if the seasonal affix for Legion Timewalking is going to be retired as well.

Legion Timewalking Mythic+ runs uses the Inv infernalbrimstone [Infernal] seasonal affix and it is still available after the removal of these affixes.

Dragonflight
  • Dragonflight Season 1: Shaman pvp leaderclan [Thundering] — While in combat, players are periodically caught in Raszageth's unending storm. As the storm passes, players discharge excess energy that can damage and stun allies.
Shadowlands
  • Shadowlands Season 4: Spell shadow nethercloak [Shrouded] — Nathrezim infiltrators have disguised themselves among enemies throughout the dungeon. Cartel Ta will reward you handsomely for assisting in their capture.
  • Shadowlands Season 3: Spell progenitor orb [Encrypted] — Enemies throughout the dungeon possess relics of the First Ones. Destroy the relics to summon the First Ones' Automa and gain powerful bonuses, based on the order in which they were destroyed.
  • Shadowlands Season 2: Spell animamaw orb [Tormented] — Servants of the Jailer can be found throughout the dungeon and grant powerful boons when defeated. If a servant is not dealt with, they empower the final boss.
  • Shadowlands Season 1: Spell animarevendreth buff [Prideful] — Players overflow with pride as they defeat non-boss enemies, eventually forming a Manifestation of Pride. Defeating this Manifestation greatly empowers players.
Battle for Azeroth

Other retired affixes[]

Removed from game The subject of this section has been removed from World of Warcraft.

The following is a list of non-seasonal affixes that were removed from the game, and will no longer appear on keystones.

  • Spell fire felflamering red [Explosive] — While in combat, enemies periodically summon Explosive Orbs that will detonate if not destroyed. (Removed in patch 10.1.0)
  • Ability backstab [Grievous] — Injured players suffer increasing damage over time until healed above 90% health. (Removed in patch 10.1.0)
  • Spell nature earthquake [Quaking] — Periodically, all players emit a shockwave, inflicting damage and interrupting nearby allies. (Removed in patch 10.1.0)
  • Spell holy prayerofspirit [Inspiring] — Some non-boss enemies have an inspiring presence that strengthens their allies. (Removed in patch 10.0.2)
  • Spell deathknight necroticplague [Necrotic] — All enemies' melee attacks apply a stacking blight that inflicts damage over time and reduces healing received. (Removed in patch 10.0.2)
  • Spell nature massteleport [Teeming] — Additional non-boss enemies are present throughout the dungeon. (Removed in patch 9.0.2)
  • Spell magic lesserinvisibilty [Skittish] — Enemies pay far less attention to threat generated by tanks. (Removed in patch 9.0.2)
  • Inv misc volatilewater [Overflowing] — Healing in excess of a target's maximum health is instead converted to a heal absorption debuff effect. (Removed in patch 7.2.0)
Removed from game The subject of this section did not make it out of the beta stages.
  • [Decay] — All players suffer damage over time while the challenge is active. (Removed during Legion beta testing)

Loot[]

Icon-time This section contains information that is out-of-date.

There are two sources of loot associated with Mythic+ Dungeons: a chest at the end of the instance (known as the Challenger's Cache), and an additional one to three options for one item from the Great Vault the week after. The Challenger's Cache drops are taken from the loot table for the dungeon the players have completed, while items in the Great Vault may be from any dungeon.

Loot reaches its maximum potential item level at Mythic +20, dropping at ilvl 431 from the Challenger's Cache, and ilvl 447 from the Great Vault. While more rewards are possible (additional currency or items), none are more powerful than what can be earned by completing +20. Thus, progressing beyond +20 represents extreme dedication to this type of content. Mythic+ teams who wish to push beyond Mythic +20 are likely to require specific group compositions and use highly refined strategies.

Challenger's Cache[]

  • At the end of a successful run, one chest will appear that all players can loot.
  • The chest will always contain one item, and one additional item if the key is completed within its time limit. These are randomly awarded as personal loot, so all players should open the chest.
  • Players who loot gear will receive an item that is appropriate to their class and specialization.
  • These items can be traded to other eligible players in the party so long as they are not an item level upgrade for the player who won them.
  • All players will loot some Gold.
  • All players will loot around 100 Flightstones, more if at least one player earned Mythic+ Rating.

Achievements[]

    • Clearing Mythic Keystone levels above 15 will have a chance of dropping additional items (roughly one extra item awarded per 3 difficulty levels beyond 15).
  • Legion Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Added, replacing Challenge Mode.
