recipe list

This recipe list on this page is really long. It could easily be another page. Does anyone agree? Schmidt 19:28, 28 April 2006 (EDT)

Yeah, I've been slowly working on revising the whole page. I'll probably create a separate page each for Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, Artisan, Armorsmith, and Weaponsmith plans. Or maybe put the general blacksmithing plans on one page and the specialty plans on another. But I do agree the plans need to be on another page. - ClydeJr 21:25, 28 April 2006 (EDT)

Nice

It looks a lot nicer now. The only thing I don't really like is how the profession menu and TOC are right next to eachother. I used a preview menu to move things around, but couldn't find anything I really liked (although some positions I thought were better)...--Ralthor 18:20, 1 June 2006 (EDT)

Very nice. Only 1 improvement I could think off. 1) List the other Blacksmith quests. I only know of the Alliance side's 2 (skill 60 and 100 I think) - to delivery stuff to Redridge and Loch Modan.
Good idea. There's 2 on the Alliance side and 4 on the Horde side. All the other blacksmithing quests are related to either specializing or they are the quests where you are turning in the manuals for the Enchanted Thorium plans. - ClydeJr 09:29, 5 June 2006 (EDT)

Expert quest?

Found this quest: Quest: Expert Blacksmith! while adding the epic mace Inv hammer 24 [Hammer of Expertise]. It a blacksmithing quest that give you a trinket Inv misc armorkit 08 [Signet of Expertise] that summons the hammer, and also allows you to speak to McGavan. Thott.

However I cannot piece together enough information to see where it fits in the quest chain write up. --Dracomage 14:22, 12 June 2006 (EDT)

Galvan gives you the signet before you sends you off to Gadgetzan in step 7 on the armorsmith specialization steps. I probably didn't include it in the armorsmith specialization steps because it wasn't a step where you had to "do" something. I'll probably add it in as well as the nice anti-fear trinket that Trenton gives you after you complete his quests in Gadgetzan. - ClydeJr 15:00, 12 June 2006 (EDT)

Specialising

Does Soothsaying for Dummies apply to Blacksmithing? If so the page needs fixing.

I'm not sure. Everything that I've been able to dig up on this book seems a little inconclusive. Here's a WoW forum post where Pavonum (a Blizzard Customer service rep) seems to imply that the book can be used for reverting engineering. Here's a stickied engineering guide that says a similar thing. The Allakhazam page and the Thottbot page on Narain Soothfancy says it can be used to switch leatherworking. But can it be used for blacksmithing? I don't know. I don't think there are too many high level blacksmiths that would want to drop all their skills to test this out. I'll add a blurb to the page about it, but I'll mark it as speculation for now. - ClydeJr 10:28, 27 July 2006 (EDT)

Cleaning up??

Is anyone working on cleaning the profession pages up to look more like alchemy and engineering, I have work on alchemy and I think we can make this page look that one. EpochDarkleaf 17:58, 20 September 2006 (EDT)

Burning crusade changes for specialising (smithing)

It seems you now only need to 'ask nicely' the respective NPCs to become a Master sword/hammer/axe smith. The quests are no longer neccessary. Has the requirement to do a quest been dropped for the other specialisations too?Gezzap 27 Jan 2007 (EDT)

This was changed in the BC. You no longer have to do a quest to learn the specialty. You just talk to the NPC and they'll give it to you. You can also unlearn the specialty by talking to the same NPC who gave it to you. However, it costs gold to unlearn specialties.
As for the page, I don't think its been updated since way before the BC. I did a lot of work on the original page. I'll look into upgrading it for the BC. - ClydeJr 12:36, 8 March 2007 (EST)

Was it just weaponsmithing that does not require a quest now? Or does armorsmithing also no longer require an elaborate series of quests? The article doesn't say specifically. RobertM525 15:48, 8 March 2007 (EST)

Here's the way it works in the post-BC world now:
  1. If you've never taken a BS specialty (armor or weapon), you'll have to do the listed quests to get the initial specialty.
  2. If you take the weaponsmithing specialty, you can now go to one of the weapon subspecialty NPCs in Everlook and you can get the subspecialty for free. You no longer have to do the quest each one gives. However if you want those plans (Inv axe 05 [Dawn's Edge], Inv hammer 05 [Enchanted Battlehammer], Inv sword 30 [Blazing Rapier]), you still have to do those quests. Any blacksmith can get these quests now.
  3. If you want to drop your specialty, you have to go back to the person who gave you the specialty in the first place and pay a fee. If you have both weaponsmithing and a weapon subspecialty and you want to switch to armorsmithing, you'll have to drop the subspecialty first, then drop weaponsmithing.
  4. If you have already gotten a specialty once (armor or weapon) and you want to switch to the other, you don't have to do the quests for the new specialty. You should be able to just pick up the new specialty. Because of this, if you want to become an armorsmith, it might be cheaper to do the weaponsmith quests and become a weaponsmith, then pay to the fee to drop and then become an armorsmith.
  5. The fees to drop a specialty are:
Axesmith, Hammersmith, Swordsmith or Armorsmith: 25g through level 50, 50g levels 51-65, 100g levels 66-70
Weaponsmith: 5g through level 65, 10g levels 66-70

You took out FAR too much information... all of the blacksmith specialities stuff is gone entirely. I can't find it anywhere. That needs to be either put on another page with obvious links, or put back. I've been looking at that for deciding what I wanted with my new character, and this explains why I couldn't find it... Is this missing?

Okay, I am new to Wiki, a beginner to World of Warcraft; so I do not mean to post this in the wrong place. I have looked over this page, and have learned a bit from it. From my perspective however (being new to the skill progressions) I am not seeing if I am still able to make the basic equipment after taking a specilization. I am planning to be the Weaponsmith for my Guild with one toon, and the Armorsmith on another toon. If I specialize, does it remove my ability to create things for my Guild members? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DragonBow (talk · contr).

Weapon type trivia

So I considered adding the following points to the article but I don't think it's wise to pad out the trivia section of the published article too much. These might be interesting points if someone can properly distill them down though:

  • For one-handed Axes, Maces, and Swords, and two-handed Maces, weapons are available to be produced in each of the three major stats.already there in-article As selected examples, the first 2h intellect mace was the Inv mace 41 [Hammer of Righteous Might] in The Burning Crusade; the first Blacksmith-produced 1h intellect Axe was the Inv axe 1h pandariatradeskill c 01 [Forgewire Axe], introduced in Pandaria. Many other weapons have multiple stat-bases, for example Daggers have been available in intellect form since Classic with the Inv weapon shortblade 05 [Searing Golden Blade].
    • (Agi/Str Swords being present in Classic, and Agi Maces being retroactively added in Wrath on top of old "feral weapons" - allowing these drops to be used by Enhancement spec shamans)
  • Rogues have the proficiency to equip every one-handed weapon that a Blacksmith can produce, except for shields, for a total of five weapon types. Shamans have more variety, at being able to equip more types of equipment with proficiency in one-handed Axes and Maces; the two-handed variants of Axes and Maces; and Fist Weapons, Daggers and Shields. Note however, that the combinations of stats available may not always align with the specialization's requirements, for example Enhancement cannot actually make use of the Agility-based daggers for their specialization's weapon abilities, and Intellect-based swords do not provide much benefit to Rogues.

It may be interesting to make a table/chart matching weapon types to stat types too, although that may not necessarily be profession related (there being drop sources that presumably cover a wider variety than profession sources - str polearms being a notable example whereas smithing can only make agi polearms, and only in BFA). -Techhead7890 Talk Contribs 15:53, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
