Presentation

Hmm.... just a thought on presentation:

- What if we went with a sortable table that could show the area level, skill level, the zone name, etc. and then it can be sorted by how people want to look at the info instead of spreading it accross a whole page? I'd be willing to convert this information if that sounds like a good idea. Trilless 21:07, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

I edited the Fishing skill levels by zone table, prompted by an error in the lower skill area. The starting areas are as the table described the capital cities, the capital cities are as the table described the level 11-20 zone. I have no experience beyond this, so to not introduce an error, I am going to assume the rest of the table was correct, so there are two 2nd tier entries, one for capital cities, and one for level 11-20 zones. I suspect this is incorrect, and will attempt to determine the values for the level 11-20 zones, even if I have to start a new character to do so. Madkaugh 02:14, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Fishing skill is not linked to recommended zone level. There is a correlation in most cases, but not all. Refer to the source cited above the table for the skill required in each zone. If you can prove errors in that source, let me know. --Timski 19:21, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
The data in the WoWWiki table is quite a bit different than the data that is currently on El's. As there have been recent changes to fishing level requirements in the patches, and El's tracks these changes, I'm going to assume that her data is more accurate and update ours to match hers. But for archival purposes, I am going to paste our current table here:
Tier Zone Skill required (minimum) Skill for 100% catch rate
1 Level 1-10 zones: Racial starting zones, outside of cities 0 30
2 Level 11-20 zones: Darkshore, Silverpine Forest, The Barrens, Westfall, etc.
Racial Capital Cities: Darnassus, Ironforge, Orgrimmar, Stormwind, Thunder Bluff, Undercity
0 75
3 Level 21-30 zones: 55 150
4 Level 31-40 zones: Desolace, Dustwallow Marsh, Stranglethorn Vale, etc. 130 225
5 Level 40-55 zones: Azshara (coastline), Felwood, Feralas, The Hinterlands, Moonglade, Tanaris, Western Plaguelands, etc. 205 300
6 Zangarmarsh (East of Serpent Lake, The Lagoon) 305 400
7 Azshara (Bay of Storms), Winterspring, Zul'Gurub, Burning Steppes, Deadwind Pass, Eastern Plaguelands, etc. 330 425
8 Zangarmarsh (Serpent Lake and West), Terokkar Forest (ground level) 355 450
9 Nagrand (East of Halaa including Elemental Plateau), Netherstorm (Eco-Dome Midrealm), Isle of Quel'Danas 380 475
10 Nagrand (Lake Sunspring and Skysong Lake),
Terokkar Forest (Silmyr Lake, Blackwind Lake, Lake Ere'Noru and Lake Jorune)
430 525

I broke the Fishing skill requirements by zone section and table out from the Fishing locations article because:

  • it serves a different purpose than the first section of the article, which addresses where to fish for what you want
  • it is frequently referenced in fishing articles, requiring a subsection link, which is a bit cumbersome
  • and it seems to crop up as a source of confusion, so highlighting it in its own article might alleviate that

I spent 20 minutes fishing in Eastern Plaguelands (at night) and came up with the following: Raw Whitescale Salmon x 16, Raw Nightfin Snapper x 7, Plated Armorfish x 5, Raw Sunscale Salmon x 4, Raw Redgill x 1 - added this to the table. Dhorhe (talk) 22:18, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Eastern Plaguelands Min skill requirement

I was just fishing in Lake Mereldar in Eastern Plaguelands. I was able to fish with an augmented skill of 285 (260 + 25 from pole). I'm guessing the minimum skill was changed and has yet to be noted here. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Superwacker (talk · contr).

Patch 3.1 (I think) actually removed all minimum skill requirements for fishing. Instead, if your skill is too low you'll fish up vendor trash instead of fish. Though you're right, this should be reflected somewhere on the page. -- DarkTZeratul (talk) 17:55, October 22, 2009 (UTC)
I've started to update to reflect the changes from patch 3.1. I will likely be removing the minimum skill level from the charts as these are no longer relevant because of the patch. I will leave the 100% catch rate level as that is still relevant for those fishers looking at what level they will stop fishing vendor trash. Trilless (talk) 20:47, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

progress

I do believe its been updated folks! Trilless (talk) 06:06, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

I have updaed Eastern kingdoms to reflect the even newer cata content changes. I have removed the Min Skill components of the charts. Kalimdor still needs to be completed to remove the outdated stub. Trilless (talk) 19:30, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
